Es lo más hermoso... Soy de la generación 2000 que escucha pop,rock, salsa, etc pero acabo de darle la oportunidad y me encanta, estoy viajando 32 horas y me da una paz.
Esta música es una descripción exacta de las tierras escocesas que tanto impresionaron al compositor en uno de sus viajes, en su primer movimiento se nota claramente que fue testigo de una tormenta por esos lugares, se nota que plasmó de forma vivida esa increíble experiencia, solo escuchenla bien y se darán cuenta, Mendelssohn fue el otro niño genio igual que Mozart solo que este nació en cuna de oro y tuvo éxito de inmediato...🎼

For me this Symphony Scottish, is one of most impressive of Mendelssohn melodies This outstanding music support its composition maybe in a voyage of the author to Scotland, and perhaps represents the impression of Mendelssohn about the landscape and history of that country. The orchestra is excellent and the sound is superb.
Stunning. I'm not as educated to the nuances as the rest of the commentators, but this spoke to me on so many levels. Restores my faith in mankind in a time when our soul is questionable.

The theme from the second movement was used as music for the BBC tv production of David Copperfield in the mid 1950s. I remember it as a little boy, and have always loved it!

Wunderschöne Aufführung dieser romantischen Sinfonie mit seidigen Töne aller Streicher, milden Töne aller Holzbläser und brillanten Töne aller Metallbläser. Der geniale Dirigent leitet das perfekt trainierte Orchester im gut phrasierten Tempo mit Völlig effektiver Dynamik. Echt bewundernswert!

This is one of the best recordings of the Scottish symphony I’ve heard. You need a very strong string section to make this piece and they did it.
And also, I forgot to mention the brass-altogether a really great orchestra!

I’m very much enthralled by this performance of Mendelssohn’s third symphony.
Please, oh people who criticise this performance - music needs individuality, and not just the same old pre-conceived ideas. Yes, it is individual, and has quite a few surprising moments, but it gets to the heart of what is a normally under-rated symphony . Whether or not you agree with every single touch, it is a fabulous performance! Bravo to Rumon Gamba for his musical vision, and full marks to the response and fine playing from this orchestra. After listening to this, "conventional" performances miss out on the soul we are treated to here. Somehow, I think Mendelssohn would be rather pleased!
This performance, as most of their Classical/Romantic performances is truly remarkable. They always capture the heartfelt eccesence of the music. I would stand for 3 X a bravo for this ....and their Schumann renditions!

Wonderful performance of my favorite symphony by Mendelssohn. Full of life, rich in color, drama and magic. I wasn't aware it was under-rated. It's a masterpiece of the Romantic Period.

A really great performance! But why do you write "...normally under-rated..."? I believe friends of Classical or Romantic music love Mendelssohn, and especially this symphony! For me he is one of the true greatest composers!

Que belíssima e profunda melodia tem esse adágio inicial desta sinfonia! Compor sinfonia depois de Beethoven era realmente um desafio para qualquer compositor, ainda mais porque grande parte das lendárias sinfonias de Beethoven foram compostas quando ele estava parcialmente surdo e totalmente surdo. Mas Mendelssohn teve o seu espaço. E tanto a Sinfonia Escocesa quanto a Sinfonia Italiana dão testemunho do seu gênio criador. Mendelssohn desenhava com as notas, em cada compasso, os detalhes da paisagem que ele gostaria de passar para o ouvinte. É digno de nota que, na prática, Mendelsshon era um exímio desenhista, fato desconhecido para muitos dos apreciadores de suas obras.
Es una opinión acertada, creo que son únicas sus obras y que tienen vida propia partiendo del lenguaje musical universal como es el Solfeo. Bravos! Y que muriesen tan jóvenes!!!

This is the umpteenth time I have watched this performance of the Mendelssohn Third Symphony. Yes, why isn't this orchestra listed among the very best, along with Berlin, Bavarian Radio, and the Concertgebouw? Every performance posted here is absolutely top-notch!

What an excellent performance! I was recently horribly disappointed by an "historically informed" performance. This one brings energy and excitement and all the power that Mendelssohn must have intended. Is it too fanciful to think that this orchestra has witnessed the winter storms of the Bay Biscay?

L'expression est ressentie d'une manière magistrale et transcrit la passion qu'a dû éprouver Mendelssohn pour ce merveilleux ensemble qu'est l'Écosse. Le plair d'écouter n'a dégale que l virtuosité du chef d'orchestre servi par des instrumentistes remarquables.
Mendelssohn is the true progeny of Mozart and has the same overall energy and attention to detail, a master of orchestration but without the broad panoramic themes of those who came after him. I am personally drawn to his incredibly intricate piano compositions, and I find his chamber works to be more remarkable than his symphonies. Still, this performance is exquisite and immortalizes the composer appropriately.
An orchestra that can't be beat plus a work that is equalled by few and exceeded.by none is exhilarating to say the very least.
I love those piano trios.
I have waited a lifetime to hear a performance like that, especially of the long 4th movement coda. Thank you Gallegos. Thank you Mr Gamba.

Honestamente he buscado varias versiones del Allegro vivacissimo de esta pieza, pues es el que más me gusta. Definitivamente está es la que más me encanta por la velocidad y potencia que le dan en su interpretación

Mendelssohn ranks alongside Mozart as one of the all-time greatest. He has captured the unconquerable ebullience of the Scots, and it is a strong and sensitive performance by their kin in Galicia!
The control of the coda of the last movement is excellent. The best I've heard. Felizidades, Maestro Gamba.

Important to know that this symphony was written in praise of the British Queen Victoria in the last years of her life. She and Mendelssohn were friends -Queen Victoria was of course of German descent, and spoke fluent German with this great composer. Both he and Schubert were the great losses to Classical music, i.e. both unfortunately died very young.
Queen Victoria far outlived Mendelssohn! Mendelssohn delighted the then young Queen by asking to visit the nursery to meet her young children. He died in 1847, while Victoria lived to the dawn of the 20th century.

It’s a very fun ballet to dance. The choreography is good. The adagio is beautiful.
Adiago ( 21:14 ) was the arrangement of the symphony that we played. Hearing how this is played by you guys makes me think I should've practiced more, haha.
