I built this model and it is based on what this helicopter looked like in 2003. I think the prongs you mention are the cable cutters. If a low-flying helicopter were to hit a power line, cable cutters actually cut the cables to ensure that the helicopter doesn't get ensnared. In 2003 ( most) Sea Knights didn't yet have them.
