Jazz Ensemble Library - Grade 4
Originally a #1 hit for Toto in the early '80s, and recorded again recently by the group Weezer, this powerful rock anthem features a distinctive groove and memorable lines. John Wasson has given it a contemporary spin while maintaining the feel and drive of the original.

Trumpet solo sounded crazy good
John Wasson is hands down one of the best if not THE best big band arranger out there!
tired: weezer covering Africa
wired: big band arrangement of Africa
1:58 Sax part from here is phenomenal
FiremanJonas yeah and I have to play it 😳
@Roo Poll don t u mean u get to play it? Lucky I wish I could play this song
how can anyone NOT like this?!
Maybe because they heard the original.
This arrangement is epic.
I agree
So is lulu left town
No it isn’t it doesn’t have french horn in it
Honne it’s a jazz arrangement
Gonda Metzger like they said it’s a jazz arrangement. there’s no french horn in jazz
Petitioning for my band director to let us play this
My band is playing it for high school
I played it 6th grade
Mine didddd
We just played it this year as one of are stands tunes
Count me in
Oh my goodness I have to play this for jazz band it’s so hard!
Tears every time
great song, we're playing this for our last concert. its gonna be a memorable one too
The band at my school played this and we had to memorize it. We only had two weeks to learn it because it was a last minute thing and we played on the football field at half time! It was a lot of fun but I memorized none of it-
I get to do it for a field show. Super excited
TOTO LEGEND
loved playing this my senior year lol. we used to beg the director to let us do it every single day
Mucho pleasant to ear holes
Bongo part honestly slept on😔
Tear jerker
Love this arrangement!! I play bari sax and it sounds great!! Let me know if anyone else plays bari!!
I did, but only in a quartet, in the big band I always played tenor.
That's it im going to force my band teacher to make us play this song
How exactly are you going to
@@luceroarriaga1395 blackmail
Why aren’t there any percussion comments we start the song and in fact the majority of the entire song is percussion
I’m playing drumset for jazz band
I am in College, meaning there is a very good chance I will never get to play this, but it's fine, because listening is just as fun
Love it
This is sick. Been looking for a decent arrangement of this for a while nlw
Great Song!
Really love this arrangement and love this song !
Best Song Ever
Thanks I LOVE IT
Really epic!
*I hear the drums echoing at night*
we are playing this for our concert next year 😳😳😳😳😳
Me: "Wait... it's all saxophone?"
The entire arrangement: "Always has been."
:O
Hey it's way better on the trombones than many other songs.
I’m in concert band not jazz but I really wanna play this lol
Jazz band just found a new song
LICC AT 2:38!!!!!!!
Memes aside, this arrangement f***ing slaps!
God loves you all
Hal Leonard really doin memes now
It's actually Paul Murtha doing the memes
@@queennai6471 John wasson but yea
I love listening to the verses on instruments than I do vocals. Not sure why.
ive played an africa jazz cover in front of a crowd twice. Its good as a drummer :). But the thing is that we did a different cover where I had a long improve solo.
I have the trumpet solo… wish me luck
Muito agradável
como faço para adiquerir
We did this in jazz band we the trumpets and I sounded so bad Lol.
We're playing this for matching band
Ch ef LUCKY
Ehh

Hola..donde lompuedo descargar??
Does anyone know the notes for the lick at 2:38
We are playing this song for marching band our theme is into the jungle
jeremy arndt hope you have welcome to the jungle too
I feel like sometimes in this song the most important and emotional parts of the original are given to the trombones, an instrument which is naturally low and therefore doesn’t stand out very much. I feel like this arrangement would have been more enjoyable if that part was accompanied with the trumpets or saxes
Your low brass obviously isnt very loud then... XD
mate then your low brass kinda dodo ngl. we played this and the trumpet and sax had double the players and we massivly overpowered
my band does this one.
Awesome arrangment! First btw
Check out the flowing wells jazz band play this
Kinda upset that bari isn’t playing with all the other low parts at the beginning
Is this MIDI Audio, or real record session?
All Hal Leonard sample recordings are actual live players
Well the fact that the trumpet solo was different than what was on the page should have given it away
um why isnt bari sax also playing at 0:13?
it's not the tone they needed there
bari sax doesn't exist
because you touch yourself at night
It wouldn't be a smooth enough sound. Bones are softening the sound.
is the solo the written solo or that is an improved solo.
It can be either the written solo or an improvised solo.
Probably improved
The flutes and clarinets?
Vance ProductionsTM 2 this is a jazz piece while granted clarinets used to be in jazz bands flutes arent really jazzy.
@@rjvopat8632 My main man Henry Mancini begs to differ
There is a clarinet part (I play it that's how I know :) it is really just what tenor plays
Clarinets can play the part of the tenors, which is what happens at my band, me being a clarinetist
@@rjvopat8632What about Albert Soccaras's jazz flute solo on Clarence Williams's song Candy Lips?
Band geeks!!!
Being in band at Sumner is a whole different animal
Where's the vocalist part? *WHERE IS IT?*
It's a big band bud
N o
This kinda sounds like it's from Super Mario Sunshine, not much, but a little
eh.
that Fma9 is a bit too early for me, end of verses 2/4 bar.
Being a tuba player it’s kinda upsetting seeing your part being named “Trombone 4”😂
Honestly it just plain rude
This is jazz band music
Random Name, Why Not? jazz bands can have tubas dawg.
@@yoooitsjackk2076 trombone 4 is bass trombone, not tuba
yes finally another tuba player
This arrangement is great. I just wish the trombones had a little bit more of the actual melody.
RhynoBytes wtf do you mean we get like half the song
It feels like trying to find a good trombone melody/solo is like trying to find a flute player that is always in tune.
It's impossible.
@@kevinkevin9525 you’re not wrong with the flute thing😂😂
It’s more important to have a good balance in the arrangement than have your section play the tune if it’s not needed (I play trombone too)
Needs the vocals!
Where the flute solo at? We do double you know 😂
The sax just makes it sound better when it’s computerized
@@staceybailey8163 no I mean it would be written on a score if you switched from sax to flute. I think with flutes it sounds more authentic and contrasts with the rest of the piece
Ashley Mazanhi but his is for a jazz arrangement and usually flutes aren’t in jazz ensembles
Lol this is jazz ensemble
I mean... sax, trumpet, and trombone rule the roost in jazz ensembles. Flutes just wouldnt have that punch needed for a piece like africa.

Bass trombone solo part is hard
where!?!
it’s easy
@@speddcarrot2081 Pretty high notes for starter
@@doppelrohrblatt ok for a beginner yes it’s high
