You NEED These! How To Make Wheel Cribs with the RYOBI 18V Framing Nailer [PBL345]

  • We used our RYOBI 18V Framing Nailer to build some wheel cribs to hold up our project cars. With just a few 2x4s it's easy to put these together, saving a few hundred bucks and also getting a solid set of cribbing. The RYOBI PBL345 Framing Nailer worked perfectly driving 3" hot galvanized nails throughout.

I love this diy stuff lately. Time to put the tools to work and build something good!

Great idea and workmanship. FYI nails, especially framing nails, usually have a greater sheer strength than the same size screw. As far as I’ve been told.

Should be a lot cheaper than the ones sold at Summit.

I'd put some type of handle on the side of them. Just to make it easier to carry and put into position. Anyhow great video. Great content, as usual. Thanks, take care!

You nicely demonstrated one thing I don't like about my Ryobi framing nailer, the magazine is too small. Ryobi knew this going in and now, for another $60(!), they are willing to sell you an extended magazine that should have been included on the gun in the first place. I haven't shot any ring-shank nails but it looks like it was struggling to sink them.

Is it a bad idea to make these using a carriage bolt on each corner instead of screws/nails? That way, you could quickly remove a level or two as needed depending on the amount of height preferred.

Curious as to why not construct the wheel cribs out of say 2 X 12s (or if you want wider a combo of say 2X6 and 2X10 side by side and alternating) stacked and screwed (or nailed) together to the height one wants with the stops on the top one? Is better this way.. seems like it would be stronger the other way.

I'm wondering how tall you can make a crib before tipping becomes a concern. Any information on that?

Either the depth of the nailer needs to be adjusted or that nailer is underpowered. You should not need a framing nailer AND a hammer.
