Noam Chomsky FULL INTERVIEW: on Ukraine, Brexit and “the most dangerous time in world history”

  • Noam Chomsky: “We’re approaching the most dangerous point in human history”
US professor, Noam Chomsky now 93, joins George Eaton to discuss the Ukraine Russia War, the climate catastrophe, Keir Starmer's Labour Party, Brexit, and much more.
“It’s monstrous for Ukraine,” he said. In common with many Jews, Noam Chomsky has a family connection to the region: his father was born in present-day Ukraine and emigrated to the US in 1913 to avoid serving in the tsarist army; his mother was born in Belarus. Chomsky, who is often accused by critics of refusing to condemn any anti-Western government, unhesitatingly denounced Vladimir Putin’s “criminal aggression”.
Noam Chomsky is also still engaged by British politics. “Brexit was a very serious error, it means that Britain will be compelled to drift even further into subordination to the US,” he told me. “I think it’s a disaster. What does it mean for the Conservative Party? I imagine they can lie their way out of it, they’re doing a good job of lying about a lot of things and getting away with it.”

More in detail: Thomas Tennhardt, Director of NABU for International Affairs. Above all, Ukraine is characterized by steppe ecosystems, of which the country has the most in all of Europe. Of these, over 60% have currently suffered severe damage.
In addition, it is about the wetlands on the Azov Sea and the Black Sea coast. These are among the most important in the world, 14 of which have already been destroyed. There was one of the rare colonies of Dalmatian pelicans there. Colonies of sandwich terns with up to 60,000 breeding pairs or 3,000 breeding pairs of fish gulls could also be found there. "Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism... And the more one is conscious of one’s political bias, the more chance one has of acting politically without sacrificing one’s aesthetic and intellectual integrity... When I sit down to write a book, I do not say to myself, ‘I am going to produce a work of art’. I write it because there is some lie that I want to expose, some fact to which I want to draw attention, and my initial concern is to get a hearing."

In the face of the war in Ukraine, Noam Chomsky, Naomi Klein and Janis Warufakis have decided to repeat the theses that are at the heart of Russian propaganda. According to them, NATO is responsible for the conflict, Ukrainians cannot decide for themselves, and a buffer state must be created from their homeland. In this way, part of the Western left went morally and factually bankrupt, to the applause of an equally ignorant public, vide the comments under the video. I was a Chomsky fan for years, until he expressed admiration for the Cambodian Red Khmers. Now he has confirmed that he is as ignorant on Eastern issues as the former Western colonisers were of the "uncivilised" nations from which they felt superior.

That was truly disconcerting and depressing but important for us all to be informed about.
Makes everything feel futile and that truth to power is unobtainable.

"we prefer to talk about other things, but that is the overriding concern". So the guy goes on to ask him a question on an unrelated topic instead of continuing to talk about what he said was "the overriding concern".

Chomsky's doomerism is about his own death. He's depressed because he's going to die soon. Every single thing the man has said in the past few years has been doom-laden. Those of us who are not planning to die anytime soon need to be positive and hopeful, even in the face of threats.
