I drove through the Bronx in 1973. It looked like Berlin in 1945. This is like a 10,000% improvement over that!

I lived in Lambert Houses near the Bronx Zoo. I could hear the 2 and the 5, the animals awakening and the city come to life. I loved it all!

Thank you, you helped me recollect a college art professor walking me from NY City, taking a couple of holy moley fast subways and we struggled to fine a particular cuisine Mexican restaurant. I remember 141st and past 149th St., it was a raw environment although I seen hundreds of people struggling through that day. We'd gone to the NY Metropolitan Museum on a tour bus trip with a group of college students, we split and were to meet the group at a particular intersection to catch the tour bus stop for the return trip to our destination, very late at night. The people were friendly, busy living their lives and most resided in those huge monstrous size apartment buildings. I was awed at none of those city people begged for money, not one and we passed people by the hundreds that evening. Thank you Samsebeskazal Denis for sharing your videos!

I've been living in the Bronx for the last 32 years... I worked in many areas of Manhattan and I must say that my experience in this amazing city has been a rollercoaster. When I first arrived back in 87, the entire city, meaning all five boroughs had a thousands of abandoned buildings where all kinds of extreme dangerous scenarios were happening. I personally got mugged and beaten just for being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Nevertheless, the entire city has gone through an amazing change for the better... Nowadays, there is practically no abandoned or empty buildings or empty lots occupied by drug addicts or prostitutes. There is a strong police presence and somehow a much better feeling of security compared to the 80s and 90s... Of course, there are still some areas where their residents are simply uneducated, mean, and violently unpleasant worth NOT mentioning. But you'll also find great neighborhoods with amazing areas with views to the Hudson river or to the ocean bay that offer comfortable, secure and high quality of life... In Conclusion, I love New York City specially the areas I choose to be around...

Respectfully, as I stated before, while there are people struggling economically in the Bronx, the drama hungry "Drive-By-Media" reporters forget to mention that there are MANY middle income families & individuals that are actually doing OK, live in clean homes, attend Church, take vacations, support local businesses, and have modern cars. The entire Bronx is not overrun with gangs and crimes, as often portrayed, although it does exist, of course. The Bronx is much cleaner than back in the 70s when I was growing up there with two wonderful parents. As in any city, if visiting or moving in, enjoy yourself BUT use good sense and: A). Always be aware of your surroundings, B) DON'T act like a goofy wide-eyed tourist. C. When making purchases guard your credit cards/cash and don't "flash them". D) When riding the subway don't put your wallet in your back pocket. Pick-pockets have been around since the 1800s and they love crowds especially during the rush hour.

+Swindeville 90z Saddening since the South Bronx it seemed to be making a good comeback during the 90s and early 2000s. I'm glad that the areas further north (Marble Hill section, Allerton Ave areas, Pelham Pkwy, and Gun Hill Rd ) are cleaner and doing much better than in years past. Good number of modern, clean apartments/town homes built up with professionals moving in.

I even got lost with my girlfriend in an area around Melrouse, but a nice young lady helped us to get to the next metro station. I never felt any threat or uncomfortable. For the people that are so critical, you need to reconsider your opinion. All, I see are a lot of poor people walking and working in mom & pop businesses.
Not everyone can live in the Upper East side, Park Slope, or Grand Concourse. And yes bad people are residing in this area I am sure of that, but most of the people are honest people who just want a good life for their children. I didn't observe one child out of control running the streets or harassing people.

Some of the culture does not understand each other. But we show respect to one another in the community. The only thing I do question at times. Why do one's leave where they lived. Each and everyday. I know some will disagree with me, but an area that has been very cool for shopping since the 1960s is "The Hub" which is the area of 3rd Avenue and 149th Street. Lots of businesses with anything/everything at decent prices. It will take you hours to visit every store there. The #2 and #5 subway trains stop there as do several bus lines. I have fond memories of going there many times with my Mom. Saddened me when the MTA tore down the 3rd Avenue EL Train line that ran overhead. Now, 40 years later the transit authority regrets that decision since now the buses that replaced that line are often overcrowded. Of course, a number of bureaucrats back in the 1970s tended to be short term thinkers.

For a quarter, the ice cream sandwich you got was huge! Although we were on a tight budget, my mom would get one for me and one for my sister nearly every time we visited there, via the #2 subway or the 3rd Ave El. Simple childhood pleasures that today's techno-generation kids could never comprehend nor appreciate, sad to say.

@@TheTimeForChange44 Hello.. I also remember that school. Across from it was another called a "600" school. Back in the day, ruff kids where sent to "600" schools. Don't know if that is the case nowadays. I went to Junior High School down on St. Anns before we moved to Brooklyn. Still, I came back to the Bronx to attend Samuel Gompers High School. Back then it was an all boys school. Anyway, Willis Ave was my playground too.. Thanks for the memories. Fernando

I'm a Brooklyn native myself...but any area, even this area of the South Bronx,is consisted of everyday people who work, struggle like every body else....it's just when negative things happen ,all of a sudden there's a stigma or stereo type.... every where around the globe, there are good peaceful areas, with good and bad element..no matter what or where...I grew up in Bed Stuy Brooklyn all my life 30 yrs and am now residing in East Flatbush....20 years .... I've seen the good and bad ...but most is good...it's the element that is around you....10 shootings can take place over 2 _3 days in innner city neighborhoods but there could always be a serial killer living in the next house in a quiet neighborhood in Ohio...do you get my drift??...good post.👍

I am from the Bronx. I've been living in the Bronx for 48years. I was raised in the Bronx, and graduated High School, and proceeded to go to college. I love my Bronx... There are good and bad people all over , but people think that everything and everybody in the Bronx are bad. Why? Because the media just center their attention to report the bad actions of the Bronx. The Bronx is a borough that has beautiful places to visit, and not all the poor people are bad. The Bronx has improved through the years. I am very proud to say, that I am from the Bronx, and I won't change it for no other ritzy place . People from the Bronx are down to earth.. We tell you how it is.
