    As a firefighter, the education is long and monotonous, the testing stressful, the continuing education grueling. Your sleep pattern sucks, you have a terrible diet, your family sees you a couple times a week, etc.
    This can all be very draining and leaves you questioning your career choice.
    However, it only takes this one night, this one single run, this one grateful and relieved family to answer that question and for the rest of your career you know you’re exactly where you need to be.
    Great job brothers!

    It takes a special kind of person who against all instincts in their mind telling them to run they walk right into harms way. The selfless act of laying your life on the line in the hope to save another can't be appreciated enough. Truly hero's.

      It’s not like they are lining up to have their heads cut off. It’s a skill that is fostered and trained. Humans are capable of more than average life allows; the real “heroics” are deciding you won’t be a cog in a wheel doing something useless, the specifics are unimportant.

      Somehow those " memories" don't haunt me after 26 years..........I can remember most of them and still tell stories about some ( with others in the fire service). Can still remember the 3 fires that almost got me clear as the day they happened, but someone was riding on my shoulder and got us out. Hardest thing isn't seeing the death and/or dismemberment ( for me), it's seeing the surviving family or friends involved in the fatal accident or fire.

    • @fdMT_EnGy
      @fdMT_EnGy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@firefighterpk2440 it's something you get numb to after so many of them....the worst ones for me that I can't get rid of are the ones that involved pets (I know I know, I got a thing for pets) and children...be it fires or MVCs. The ones with children have stuck with me. And the biggest of them all is the day we lost almost an entire shift in 4 hours. That one....that one still haunts me 2 decades later. And even not being on the job anymore some noises and smells bring it all back. I now tell my volunteer members to not feel like it's not ok to talk to someone when they need to. Some times the hardest shell can crack but when it heals the demons are already inside. But brother that is awesome that you left those demons behind.

      People say you should own a gun because "When seconds count the police are only minutes away" . The fire department is many many minutes away from the time the call goes in to the time they turn on a hose. They need a fire truck that has multiple water canons and built in water supply to start the initial assault to slow down the spread of the fire . I never knew how long it took to setup a truck to fight a fire until my condo building went up.
      The fire could have been contained to just one unit on the third floor if they got water on the fire at the same time the police showed up but by the time the ladder tower arrived and setup some hoses the fire was already in the attic and spread across the whole top floor. Now all units on 3 floors took heavy damage simply because 3 feet of water put in the attic must come down to the ground.

    • @rbspider
      @rbspider 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Steven Kelley The HOA was getting fined for leaving the building up and in danger of collapse with heavy snow on the way so it was finally demolished . Now we have to fight the insurance company to get the cash to rebuild . We are 9 months into the battle . I would own three or more fire extinguishers from here on out. One working fire extinguisher that say would have saved the building , either that or not having two renters who were smoking pot and burning incense to mask the smell .

    • @tom0photographi
      @tom0photographi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @rbspider, I would be extremely cautious in trying to extinguish a fire inside any structure. Houses now are full of plastics from laminate and vinyl plank flooring to spray foam insulation. It burns hot and fast and produces extremely toxic smoke. Smoke not only has extremely high levels of CO it also has chemicals like hydrogen cyanide in it, which will make you go into cardiac arrest. You complain about the fire department cause the loss of your home but really what has failed you is poor life choices by your neighbours, building code, and likely shoddy workmanship. Any wood framed multiple dwelling structure (town house/row house)should have sprinklers. It should also have masonry fire walls between every unit that extends to the roof line. But sadly that doesn’t seem to be building code where you live and likely all that’s required is a 2hr fire rating between units so on walls that separate units they use 5/8” drywall vs 1/2”. This is also assuming the drywall crew took their time during the install and left no holes that fire could get into the walls or into the attic. Moral of the storey, don’t try and extinguish a fire yourself unless it’s extremely small and you have an escape route planned. Apparently the father in this video went back I tot he house and because a victim of smoke inhalation as CPR had to be performed on him.

    When I was a kid our back shed caught on fire. We didn’t realize it was on fire till the neighbor came knocking on windows doors to get us up. It was late at night. The response was pretty fast since we used to live close to a fire station. Dudes were in the fucking zone. I was panicking because my toys were in there. Not thinking about it may catch the whole neighborhood on fire. The firefighters showed up and had the fire out with in minutes. A lot of expensive things got burned up in that shed. I will always remember the brave firefighters just going in there and handling business. No one got hurt insurance covered the loses and out house and tree didn’t burn. I thought for sure the tree was going to catch on fire since it was about 10 feet from the shed. Watching this video reminds me of that night. The whole neighborhood was out at 1am just being nosy. Firefighters discussing the cause of it. At school the next day kids that lived close to me were asking all kinds of questions about the fire. Shit was wild for sure.

    They may be airlifted to Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio since they are critical. It's the premier burn injury treatment center in the USA.

      How do you know this? Why would you say it’s the best in the USA. Have you been a burn victim your self. Are you a medical student? I disagree with your comment. There are other hospitals in the us that have great burn treatment centers that specialize in that., that are just as good if not better so don’t go saying this place is the premiere burn trauma center in the us. @@erikak8187 Why so angry bc someone thinks a certain Hospital is the leading hospital for a particular injury? It's their personal opinion, which we all have! No need to call people names and get upset! I had surgery at HSS,which stands for Hospital for Special Surgery, in NYC. They are the premier Hospital in the Country for any type of injuries that require surgery that you might see in sports,knees,shoulders,ACL,MCL,and for me Cervical Spinal fusion. Lots of professional sports teams send their injured players there,great Hospital!!!

    Currently studying to become fire fighter I am 17 years old. I was trainee working In my local fire department. It was holiday weekend and strange abt this particular day was that we had only 2 actual firefighters working. I was doing checking our gear and usually we trainees don't participate in these calls but this time it was bigger fire than usual and 2 members wasn't enough. So we left with squad of 2 trainees with no experience in real scenario and 2 over 5 years of experience. We send message to next closest fire department for extra help but it takes around 25 minutes to arrive to that particular destination. The fire didn't look that big when we get there but the biggest problem was that normaly firefighters don't enter in buildings if they don't have a pair but this time, i had to go with one of the more experienced firefighters. We were inside building for 15 minutes. And heard our teammates telling to run back outside cause there was some kind of gas leaking from top of the building i just got outside but my partner was just abt to leave the building and the attic of the building exploded.

    Last month my house in LA caught on fire due to me not knowing my oven was still on before going to bed, I woke up 30 minutes later with smoke coming though my window from the kitchen. I screamed and called 911, the came 5 minutes later and I was able to get out. My 10 year old daughter Sarah was trapped because her bedroom is next to the kitchen, the firefighters told me not to worry they will get her out soon. 2 hours later I heard her cry, she and I cried hard because I though I would loose my baby girl. Niall came home from the store and dinner and asked me why was I upset, when I told him the whole thing he grabbed me tightly to keep me safe from the flames that were really high in my oven. Niall can't stand fire and nether can I, the builders were FINALLY able to finish up my house last week because of how bad the fire was, I almost died that day guys
