Is it possible that as they were working the story, the art designs for the characters were finalized and the animation department got to work, completing said animations and such parts were cut to fit the story properly?
It's the animation they already have for other things or if we beat them in the unkillable way, without the disappear, or just simple "ragdoll" which is then not an animation. The one funny is the last one with beate, it's the "huh ? Must have been the wind" personnification lmao.

@@AtKiba Yeah for some reason it seems to trigger the same animation that plays when you beat the first fight where he's kidnapped Garnet. Not sure why it would trigger that.
Interesting that there is a defeated animation for Beatrix. She was supposed to be defeated in a fight in the plot but it was removed. Supposedly she was supposed to lose to Kuja on the Iifa tree. This would have been satisfying to see but also kinda sad. The theme that was supposed to play during this scene way the unused "Weuber" track that you can find on YT. They kept her alive as to be a love interest for Steiner. However, this would have been used to express that the party clearly surpassed her in strength.
@@andrewrenshaw2741 Actually there is a mod that you can play with her from the certain part of the game to the end and she has a trance there. If I can remember clearly, her trance is about combination of sword art techniques and white magic.
The party clearly surpassed her in strength long before that point though. They were casually using powerful eidolons, had powerful magic artifacts & borderline divine weaponry. There is no story reason nor game-mechanic reason that beatrix should auto-win the 3rd fight vs the party.
I swear the music takes me back to my childhood. My very first JRPG and still my top 1 in my list. Wish they make a remake just like what they did to ff7.

Normal Battle Mobs in FF - disappear after taking damage & vanishing once there HP is either fully gone or goes *past they're overall threshhold* (aka overkilled) Story & *Scripted Main Antag* Story Bosses - can be defeated by gets the last laugh by softlocking the game following it's closure. Beatrix is the exception cuz she *breaks the game code* you forgot Kuja on here.

You can't even the PS4 remaster with the always do 9999 damage Cheat Beatrix pretty much HAS INFINITE HP so you can't actually drop her HP to zero for every battle against her.
Watched just to see Beatrix get beaten. Still pissed the game forces you to lose to her THRICE. Like, at that point, why isn't she the main character who solos the game?
IDK about Beatrix, but they definitely should have left the final boss as Kuja, maybe have the fight in stages or something. The whole Necron thing at the last second with no prior story parts was incredibly dumb.
@@steven.9263 Disagree, the whole point of 9's story was the basic principles of human morality. When Kuja destroyed the crystal after renouncing his own morality and ideals; which was the creator of these values, he called forth the abyss. That abyss is something many people have experienced in their lives... The loss of a loved one, heartbreak etc etc. We all have our own personal battle with Necron at some point in our lives and dependant on the outcome is the rest of our lives and how we go about living it.
@@XavierAlexanderr The Japanese name for Necron is Eternal Darkness. If Square had localized the name correctly, then the whole story makes more sense. But no, we had to name the final boss as a homage to Necrophobe from FF5.
@@GregoryWeagle I could be talking entirely out of my ass but maybe they named it Necron because Eternal Darkness takes away the “personification” or “identity” of Necron being some primordial beast that comes only after the death of morality itself.

And unfortunately, while The Darkness of Eternity is an incredible name, it's also way too long for the English version, the longest name we got was 14 characters, while "The Darkness of Eternity" is a whopping 24 characters, which just doesn't fit into ff9's menu.
Good....beatrix ruined FFIX for me. She's supposedly the strongest warrior around and that's fine but in the third & last battle, she's fighting a 1v4 against enemies that are like unto gods by that point. The devs shouldn't have cheated the player out of winning that fight, especially since she could still be the strongest 1v1 with some insta-kill attack that works on one party member but again, 1v4 fight. Fkk off with auto-lose.

she probably gets a KO animation when you control her and Steiner in Alexandria (if you let her get killed in battle of course)

she most likely just has an HP higher then 9999 and the battle ends if her HP drops below 10000
