this gal understood the assignment. Out of all the videos I've seen so far, she was the only one who didn't choose the dish because she liked it, but she paid more attention to detail as well.

This is quite interesting. She was on point with their personalities. The guy she would actually prefer long-term would be the guy she was drawn to instinctively which is the guy who put in effort to make the fish and rice dish and who she says would match her personality. The fun guy would be fun until she realizes that's how he is to live with where there's always an experiment and not much order. That would get tiring after some time because who we are at our core always seems to win over all the parts of us that we want to experiment with. I hope she enjoys the process no matter the outcome.

I live in Japan, and one-plate dishes are quite unJapanese. So if someone serves dish on one plate, I can tell immediately that this person is probably not Japanese.

She is very perceptive. I kind of guess that she'd go for no.1 (since that'd be my choice too). To go out on a date, you want to just have fun and not be too proper.

for those complaining about instant ramen and are unfamiliar with Japanese culture...
ramen noodles (known as lamian at that time and is traditionally hand-pulled) was brought over by the chinese in the 1850s
with the first ramen restaurant in Japan opening in 1910s in a china town.
around the same time as industrialization went on in japan, instant ramen was created in Japan and almost all ramen in Japan eventually became basically all either machine made (fresh made dough and then machine mixed and machine cut) or instant for speed and consistency rather than the traditional hand-pulled the Chinese are still doing to this day.
Any person who's been to a Japanese convenience store should know that instant food has become a big part of Japanese culture and it's what the most Japanese people actually make and use rather than the traditional.
So for this guy to make 'fresh' ramen, he can either
a) go the traditional Chinese route which require years of practice and a special ingredient that makes the dough stretchy that's most likely unavailable where he is.
2) buy machines to actually make ramen
3) go the most popular commonly used way in Japan for families which is packaged ramen.
japanese families do not make ramen at home
The instant ramen won. Least amount of effort maximum reward.

Randall was definetley the cutest of them! But i cant eat fish, so i wouldnt have never choosen him from only from the food.. The most apealling food for me was still no. 3: the chicken, but i cant eat garlic either! So i would have probably ended up throwing these pink sticks in direction of the instant-noodle-chef and leaving alone, off to the next Chinese restaurant, super hungry and cranky!😆The only dish that would have tempted me to go out with a man ive never seen before would have been a really good Katsu-Curry! 😋
the lesson, don't overthink, just do it simple guys. I tried this trick and it catches lot of fish actually. remember what masterchef taught me, less is more.
I am a quite good cook for a student (like I make my own vegan ricotta, cakes of several tiers, macarons and stuff). I'd read 5 japanese cookbooks and practice for a date with her.
