I found your video quite interesting. However there were lots of glitches putting it into the excel as for the column width in excel. It is 6.0 To get the half inch wide columns. It definitely took me a while to figure that out once I did. I was able to get my picture installed and it printed out perfectly with the number of pages in my book. Your video is very instructive and i'm sure will help others.
Thank you! I may have referred to program as Excel in one place in the video. I used LibreOffice where you can set the columns in inches. Excel is a little different. I'm glad you were able to figure out the width in Excel!

Thank you so much for watching! I haven't been able to create it myself in a spreadsheet, however I had an app developed where you upload the image, enter height in inches, and total number of pages and the program does it all. You can choose ink saver option. You can find the app at fotobookart.com
I’m a crafter that likes to try all new things. I heard about this craft while going to garage sales. One of the homeowners was selling some crafting supplies & we got to talking & this is how I started searching for this on TH-cam. I also have a Cricut & read your comments and saw someone had asked you about it. Have you figured out how to make it work using a Cricut? Also, when using your Fotobookart website it asks for the last odd page. What about the extra pages in the front & back of the book; do we include those pages? Do you also have where you can also do the top of the pages in your website program? Looking to do a book for an 85th birthday celebration coming up mid July so wanting to get this going. I found a book at one of the garage sales titled Happy Birthday by Danielle Steel in mint condition and going to put a pic of her family on it! Thank you!
That's awesome! Glad you found my videos! I thought about it some more after that viewer suggested it, and I think it would take longer for the Cricut to cut it than me cutting it with my Cutterpillar. Plus, I would be concerned about lifting the strips off the sticky mat as they could curl, tear, etc. It's just faster by hand overall. Additional pages at the front or back, can be added to the total count, which is what I do because I like to use up all the pages. For the top of the book, it's the same program; the top would just be another pattern - I have a video for front/top design. I have videos on about every topic. Let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Happy to help! You take the number of pages in the book and divide by 2. That gives you the number of leaves in the book that you need strips for. Take the number of leaves and multiply by 0.5" (width of each strip) and that gives you the length of the picture. Example: book has 400 pages. Divide by 2 gives you 200 leaves. Multiply by 0.5" gives you 100" length for picture. Hope that helps!

@@CraftedSweetly that is what I put in 71.5 inches and it set the picture 30 more past the 285 mark I am doing this in excel just cant figure out why its doing that any help is very welcome. I can grab the corner of the picture and drag it back but then I dont know if it will print out correctly and the other thing I am thinking is the collum space correct because I put in .5 it makes the spacing so tiny you cant make it out so if I put collum space at 5 it at least looks close to what you show in the video
@@karenkillips9115 I was actually using Libre Office not Excel. I do have that corrected in the description box of the video, but not in the video itself (where I said Excel). Excel, does not have the option of inches for column width unfortunately. I believe it's points or pixels - can't remember. There is a way to modify the column with to inches, but it's a little more involved in explaining. You should try Google Sheets if you want to make your own pattern, or I have launched a web based app that would create the pattern for you ($2.99/pattern). All you have to enter is the book height, number of pages and photo and the pattern is created. It also has the ink saver feature, so you can save on ink when printing.
@@CraftedSweetly thank you for all your help I will try and do the google sheets and if that doesent work for me I will be using your app thank you so much for all your help

This is so cool. I might sound silly by asking this, but you don’t lose part of the picture? Say if you cut 1 inch strip, and only a millimetre of the picture on that strip shows on the edge of the book and the rest of the image is folder and tucked in between the pages, don’t you lose the inch of the strip minus the tiny bit that is sitting along the very edge of the page? If that makes sense….
I am finally trying to get my spreadsheet set up to give this a try. I can't figure out how to put the lines in between each column all at one time. I am using excel. Any suggestions?
@@CraftedSweetly I did exactly that but it didn't work for some reason. I manually added the lines and saved it as a template. That way I will have it to work with for each book I create if I do more than one.
When determining the height and width of a photo on excel, should either the "lock aspect ratio" or "Relative to original picture size" be checked. My height is 9 inches, my width is 129. What should i write for scale height and scale width? Thanks!
No - neither should be checked. You want to be able to enter the height and width yourself. The height will be height of the book and the width, the number of pages in the book divided by 4. Hope that helps.
Technically by 4. You're using 1 strip per leaf (page 1 and 2 use the same strip) so you divide by 2 and then each strip is 0.5" wide, so you divide by 2 again. Not sure if you're aware, I now have an app that creates the patterns for you...fotobookart.com. all you have to do is upload image, enter # of pages and height of book in INCHES. It's $2.99 and it creates the pattern for you, regular or inksaver.
@@CraftedSweetly Sure... I am on a Mac and used LibreOffice, Adobe, Preview, and Paint S. Since spreadsheet are meant for numbers not photos, it's a bit tricky to make them play together. ;)
I am having issue with the scoring, it’s seems to take the color off the paper. Is it because I am using an ink jet printer? What would you recommend for a printer please any help would be appreciated
Are you scoring the backside of the pattern? Not where the image is. I use a laser printer, but a lot of people use an inkjet printer with no issues. It could be the paper
I’m confused as Google Sheets show 143 strips but excel says 286 which doesn’t make sense. When I followed the excel sheet it wanted to print out 28 pages yet on Google Sheets it was 14 sheets
Diana - I wonder if you, or anyone else reading this, could help me solve a frustrating problem that I can't seem to fix? When I set up my picture in Libre Calc. I place it in Row 2, which in the case of the current book I'm working on, should be 9". When I check the height of Row 2 it shows that it's 9", but when I print it, Row 2 ends up being 8 5/8" or 8.625". I thought it might be a problem in my printer settings, but this happens on any printer I've used. I've played with the margins and I make sure that I'm not scaling down before printing, and this still happens. The only way that I seem to work around this is by adding the difference of 0.375" to the row and resizing the picture to fit. Then it prints at 9"
I am so excited to try this but as i am following along ... I am lost on the margin part..is there any chance of a better explanation like where are you putting .25 in?
@@CraftedSweetly thank you and now idk what i am doing wrong...do you know why i am getting every other page just a 2in section of my photo at the top? I am so not excel savvy
Yes...the image doesn't fit on one page. How tall is your book? Is your image right below row 1? Have you adjusted the page margins to 0.25" on all sides?
@@CraftedSweetly 9.5 INCHES AND 317 PAGES yes the image is below the line so i can see the number of pages and i think i set the margins.. i dont see the same steps you did... wanna ho9ld my hand through the whole process? lol I really appreciate the help!
Unfortunately it wouldn't work that way. The photo has to be stretched out based the on the number of pages you have. If you can receive emails on your phone, I have patterns in my Etsy shop that I can email you and then you can take to a print shop to print the file.
How do you determine the number of pages needed? I have done many folded books with patterns so am experienced but not sure if there is a special way to determine this.
For this, you can use any book - there isn't an exact number of pages you need because you base the "pattern" on the number of pages in the book - so you're working backwards in a sense. Having said that, too skinny and the image will look skinny, too thick, and the image will be distorted and wide. I would stay stick to books in the 275-400 page range. But you can do it with less and also with more.
I used copy paper for a couple of them and it looked fine, but it made it a little harder to work with. The last one I did I used glossy brochure paper (thickness about 50-60lb). Much sharper and easier to work with - definitely prefer that one.
Hi - I'm sorry, I'm not sure I can explain it differently. I do have an app called fotobookart.com and you create the pattern there without having to do all the spreadsheet work. Hope that helps.
The height of the photo will be 20cm. I also have a web app where you can just enter the specifications for the book, upload the pattern, and it will create the pattern for you. If you use the app, the height has to be entered in inches. The 20cm would be 7.874 inches. The app is at fotobookart.com.
bonjour, Je reviens vers vous car je ne comprend pas comment vous faite pour définir la hauteur des lignes ainsi que leur nombre mon livre mesure 23 cm , sur libre office c'est en cm. cordialement
I haven't done a tutorial for excel so I'm not sure of process, thought I think it might be similar. I now have an app fotobookart.com where you can create patterns in less than 30 seconds. Unlimited patterns a month for $4.99.
There is a button for borders in the tool bar. Also, wanted to let you know that now you can create patterns in less than 30 seconds using my web app at www.fotobookart.com. Monthly subscription is $4.99 and you can create as many patterns as you would like. It has the option of ink saver too.
I'm not sure which numbers disappear? You have to highlight the columns (A,B,C, etc) and right click, then change column width. The numbers in the first row should remain. You're just changing the width of the column. Hope that helps.
mine is doing the same thing, I mean the numbers and such are there but it compresses it so bad that you cannot see what is what. Her screen stayed the same :(
How many pages does your book have? I have found that books that are 280-400 pages work great. Fewer pages and the image is too stretched and skinny, more and it's too squashed looking because it's stretched out horizontally. Hope that helps.
ciao tutorial bellissimo, una domanda,non riesco a mettere i numeri 1-3 5 7 9, , metto*A1+2 ma non mi risulta il 3 , poi come fai a evidenziare tutti i numeri grazie
Glad you figure out the other things - sorry I missed your other questions. To make it 9" edit the photo size by right clicking on the photo and set height to 9". You'll have to make sure the margins to the page are set to 0.25" for top and bottom otherwise it won't fit. As is it might be tight. you might need to print on an 11x14" page. Alternately, you can print it 8 or 8.5" and add a ribbon at the bottom or some type of border. Hope that helps!
Each strip is 1 column and I have 143 columns. They''re numbered with odd numbers only, so it's looks like 286 columns, but it's actually just 143, since even numbers are skipped.
I think she does that to know exactly in what page she is going to apply each strip. She inputs a formula which adds 1 to previous number. Then she only uses 143 columns, not 286. The number at the top of the column is a mark to apply the strip, not a consecutive number.
@@CraftedSweetly Yes, I can see that the columns are only numbered with odd numbers (skipping the evens-which make total sense.) Your video shows 286 columns with only odd numbers... which to me means 286 columns vs 143, one for each for each leaf/page. Thanks for all your video and answering my silly question. I'm going to give it a shot. 😊

Could you tell me how you sized the picture again. I have a mac and it is a bit different than what you are showing here in the video
With a Mac you can use Google sheets. Or, I know have an app that will create the pattern for you. Fotobookart.com
Is it better to use new books opposed to old books?
It doesn't matter as long as the used books are in good condition and not falling apart
Great work, I only have two questions: How many minimum pages must the book have? What are the prices of these works? Thanks from Italy and good work
Thank you so much.I probably wouldn't do a book with fewer than 150-180 pages. The number of pages depends on the image too. Pricing varies by geographic area, number pages, etc. You can check etsy for completed books.
I’m thinking of so many possibilities for gifts, How much you charge for a book
I haven't made any for sale yet, but probably around $50-$75 depending on number of pages.
Hi, if Crafted Sweetly is unable to create one for you, let me know. I can help.
Totally amazing video crafted sweetly, really love this idea. Thank you so very much for showing all the stuff in excel. I am a paper crafter on CraftWorld and just seen you got chosen in the crafter of the week line up with your Border Collie picture book. Congratulations, it’s awesome🥳 I’ve never done anything with books like this. Just had a shoulder replacement a week ago and cannot move my arm enough in the sling to make cards yet but maybe able to do this! 😍
Am I correct in thinking you only put the double sided tape on the top and bottom corners of the page you showed and none on the backside of the page? Thank you so much again for such a fabulous explanatory video 💖💖 xxx
Thank you so much Suzi! I love craftworld and all the creativity in that community! I hope you're able to do the fold! Yes, tape only on front top and bottom. I didn't have any problem with the strips staying put. If you're on FB, you're welcome to join my group there!
@@CraftedSweetly oh lovely will have a look tomorrow. I will do my best and let you know how I get on 💖
What gsm paper is best to use? Photo paper cracks if you fold it.
I use 75-90 gsm glossy paper or just regular copy paper.
Crafted sweetly I became lost somewhere of adding the photo and put it in accourding to the size you said but when it streatched out it went past the number of 286 pages when I added the number of pages that was needed the actural photo went bigger than the aloted pages
If you have 286 pages in your book, the image width should be 71.5 inches
My pleasure! Happy to help
Hi, is there a minimum number of pages a book needs to be to be used?
Depends on the image. I’ve done some books with 150 pages, but most images require over 300 and 400 pages
Ciao, sto provando a creare un pattern per mia madre ma non capisco le dimensioni delle colonne e delle righe. Grazie mille! Complimenti per il video!
Thank you so much! I don't have much time to create custom patterns, but there is someone in my FB group who can create a custom pattern for you. Join my FB group and post that you are interested in a custom pattern and I'll tag Jacqui for you.
I've have Microsoft Excel and Libre Cal. When i made patterns and printed, the pics look kinda pixelated. Will this affect the look at the foto edge?
It can. If the image is not high resolution, that’s how the final book will look too. Should be sharp
The image is stretched and you don’t lose any of it. Turns out perfect
could you explain how to do a lenticular pattern?
I'm working on a tutorial - hopefully in the near future. Thank you.
Hi, do you only use the double sided tape on one side of the page? not the other side too?
Yes. I just put tape on one side.
What kind of paper you use to print?
28# paper amzn.to/43cRH96
I am finally trying to get my spreadsheet set up to give this a try. I can't figure out how to put the lines in between each column all at one time. I am using excel. Any suggestions?
Highlight all the cells and click on borders. Choose that is a square with: a vertical and horizontal line through the square. Hope that makes sense
Did you try to do Whit 2 photos in the same pattern? I'd like to do the Imagine who change when i rotate the book...
Not yet. I know the kind you're talking about. I'll have to figure it out. :)
I have but it is rather complicated and takes multiple programs.
@@lauratoma If you don't mind me asking, which programs were you using?
@@CraftedSweetly Sure... I am on a Mac and used LibreOffice, Adobe, Preview, and Paint S. Since spreadsheet are meant for numbers not photos, it's a bit tricky to make them play together. ;)
Yes i supposed It Is really complicate
What is the best paper to use? I have ab ink jet hp printer.❤
I use 28# copy paper. It's a little heavier and find it easier to fold. amzn.to/3FTlJ70
I’m scoring on backside not on image didn’t know if my printer was the issue
I would try another type of paper
Could you please tell me the name of the app that is available for this? I can’t understand how to spell it when I hear you say the name . Ty!
sure - it's fotobookart.com - it's a web based app. If you have any questions using it, please let me know.
I am still having issues getting the lines on the columns to show up.
It's only going to have a tick mark at the top and bottom, not line across the pattern. For lines across the pattern, I use my fotobookart.com.
I’m confused as Google Sheets show 143 strips but excel says 286 which doesn’t make sense. When I followed the excel sheet it wanted to print out 28 pages yet on Google Sheets it was 14 sheets
i cant get my numbers to follow across. i am using Excel and Libre but nothing is working for me
What do you mean to follow across?
what was the other program you had said? I can't make it out.
I use Libre Office. It's very similar to Excel.
@@CraftedSweetly which version is it, plz
Then it prints at 9"
See FB post
I am so excited to try this but as i am following along ... I am lost on the margin part..is there any chance of a better explanation like where are you putting .25 in?
The 0.25 are the margins. Go to page layout and set page margins to 0.25 on all sides
@@kpopstan5 Is your book 9.5" high? You would need to use paper that's 11x14.
Unfortunately it wouldn't work that way. The photo has to be stretched out based the on the number of pages you have. If you can receive emails on your phone, I have patterns in my Etsy shop that I can email you and then you can take to a print shop to print the file.
Are you only glueing on one side?
Yes. Haven't had any issues
My excel keeps adjusting the height and width everytime I try and enter the dimensions I need. It won’t keep what I enter, did you experience this?
You likely have "keep ratio" box checked.
@@CraftedSweetly Thank you so much!
My pleasure
What paper is best to use for this process
I used copy paper for a couple of them and it looked fine, but it made it a little harder to work with. The last one I did I used glossy brochure paper (thickness about 50-60lb). Much sharper and easier to work with - definitely prefer that one.
@@CraftedSweetly thank you Looking forward to trying this method
Bonjour j'ai pas compris votre tuto avec Exel sera-t-il possible de me ré expliqué svp ? merci beaucoup
Hi - I'm sorry, I'm not sure I can explain it differently. I do have an app called fotobookart.com and you create the pattern there without having to do all the spreadsheet work. Hope that helps.
bonjour,
je voudrai le faire avec un livre de 20cm de hauteur et de 206 feuille comment dois je faire pour la hauteur de la photo
meci
The height of the photo will be 20cm. I also have a web app where you can just enter the specifications for the book, upload the pattern, and it will create the pattern for you. If you use the app, the height has to be entered in inches. The 20cm would be 7.874 inches. The app is at fotobookart.com.

I'm not sure I understand the question. I printed the image on a regular sized piece of paper 8.5"x11"
I am just little confused how much pages book would be good to get pic that has 4 pic
It's the same as if it's one photo. The 4 photos are smaller. Mine was 345 pages I think.

What do you mean it doesn't pull the picture
@@CraftedSweetly no i dont see the picture. I get the image/
Ok, every time I highlight it to make it 0.5 , half an inch, the top numbers disappear. Help plz
Her screen stayed the same :(
Why do you have an odd number on Stripe?
Because that's the page number on the right side.
buongiorno, ho provato con excell ma la mia foto, sul libro, e' troppo schiacciata. come fai a regolarti con le pagine e l'altezza del libro? grazie
How many pages does your book have? I have found that books that are 280-400 pages work great. Fewer pages and the image is too stretched and skinny, more and it's too squashed looking because it's stretched out horizontally. Hope that helps.
Bonjour . Pourriez vous m expliquer comment créer un tuto avec un livre dans l horizontal pour une photo prise à l horizontale? Merci d avance
Same process. Just rotate the image 90 degrees before you insert into the spreadsheet.
Ma il programma originale per questi schemi come si chiama?
I'm not sure what the Original program is called. I know you can also use Orimoto to print the patterns for the photo book art.
ciao tutorial bellissimo, una domanda,non riesco a mettere i numeri 1-3 5 7 9, , metto*A1+2 ma non mi risulta il 3 , poi come fai a evidenziare tutti i numeri grazie
You have to enter =A1+2. Then copy that cell and paste in as many columns as you need. Hope that makes sense.
OK I got your program. Now my new question is lol...... how do I get my height 9 inches please
Why is only one side of page taped
It's not necessary to tape the other side.
My confusion is.... If you have 143 leaves and only need 143 "strips", why do you have 286 columns? isn't each column a strip?
