Stephanie, you can ask the flute maker to make a flute which will be appropriate for your posture. I got a E flute where all holes are not in one line. I am also a right handed person. You can get the flute made to make less stress on your left arm and the neck muscles, by offsetting RE, GA and MA holes about 15 degrees downwards.
I now find it very easy to play my ergonomically designed flute. It does not create any stress on muscles of my left arm and neck. I have a video clip on youtube. You can see the angle of my left arm. You can search by using my name Sharad Ranade.

I plany bansuri as well and your suggestion is a really good one for me. If I play for a long period of time my left arm and thumb ache pretty badly. I don't want to stop playing but feel I need to. I was wondering if offsetting the holes would help and now I know. I tested out the holding position on one of my flutes and the difference is noticeable. I have to make a flute like that and give it a try. Thanks for the suggestion. :)
