But but but they are kids being kids. We have to give them grace even though they accidentally unleashed hell on earth. We can forgive them and get ice cream after.
Great review. So, here is my theory on the Evil Dead Spirits. They have to sense a "body" that they can possess. If that is not present, then they are dormant. For example, the book is utilized, and all hell is unleashed on the folks within range. After the Evil wins, killing everyone, it slumbers and awaits the next suckers that mess with the book. The book is then stumbled upon by someone with your keen sense of logic and carefully handles the Book without bleeding on it or opening it. Thus they are able to lock it up. The actors where great. The red headed Mama looked perfectly wicked. She rocked. My favorite is the first one. So raw. The second one did throw me off because is did seem like a sequel. It wasn't. The first one allowed for more money to be earned, and Sam used it to remake his vision. Keep up the great work, and thank you for liking something out of Michigan.
I agree w/ Tony…. Horror actors alone deserve an award…. Pretending to be scared, is not easy and the makeup/prosthetics are extremely difficult to don💯
One of my favorite horror franchises for sure. Evil dead 2 still my favorite but rise did not disappoint tho i wish they didn't keep it on just that 1 floor. I thought it was gonna be the whole building they were in but still loved it
I did feel like I wish they did more with it. I can’t pinpoint what but I was kind of unsatisfied seeing as how I really liked the cast. I felt like they were under utilized maybe? And like it moved too slow and the speed when it finally picked up was continuously interrupted, unlike the remake a decade ago, which once it picked it up it had NO CHILL 😂
The actress who played the mom did phenomenal. Her range is excellent, especially considering that she said herself that she doesn’t like to watch scary movies. She did well for sure 👏🏾
I definitely agree that a lot of these actors in horror deserve way more credit. Oscars always praise transformative performances... meanwhile horror films are literally always transforming actors lol. We got actors going from happy, cool people to these menacing demons in makeup putting on complete 180 performances. And then a lot of actors gotta act scared, traumatized, emotional, broken down throughout the whole movie, which is a lot more dynamic than some drama films. GIVE HORROR ALL THE AWARDS AND MONEY lol
When the son plays the record, if you listen closely, you can hear a man shout at the priests "IT'S CALLED THE BOOK OF THE DEAD FOR A REASON". That's Ash.
1:12 The people that owned the rights for the first movie didn’t let them use footage from the movie in the 2nd movie .. that’s why they ended up at the cabin with him and the girl . They basically had to rewrite what happened at the cabin in the second movie bacause they didn’t have the footage or the other cast members …. I learned this from the dead meat TH-cam channel
Loved the review, feel like you didn’t cover a lot but that might’ve been a spoiler free option, but I’m a big fan of the franchise as well and I agree with most of what you said. The only thing I’d push back on is the reason the continuity on how to handle the dead eyes in each movie is different is because per Bruce Campbell it’s three different books. The one from Ash’s encounters, the remake in 2013, and this one are all different versions, even on the tape the priest said it was three versions of it.
I saw this today and told my kids if you ever see a whole bunch of crosses looking like it’s keeping something sealed leave that sh*t alone. They said why would we need this info 😂 I was like just in case because these parents in these movies don’t be telling they kids stuff like that before hand
About the locked door; don't you remember the possessed lady being locked in that cellar; the sickness still spread to the daughter and then the son like an infection because they bled or were pricked/scratched. And could they keep her out; she ended up doing some damage after crawling through that vent.
I didn't really rock with EDR (favorite will always be the original), but the actress that played the mom did a fantastic job. She really stood out. I don't understand why these award systems sleep on horror. Hereditary is one of the best horror movies I've ever seen and definitely should've be a contender for Best Actress, Best Director, and Best Picture at the Oscars.
They both saw that the book sucked up his blood then opened, this is after they couldn't open it before... yet he still wanted to look, i would have took that book back to the coffin covered in crosses!!!
Tysm for the best reviews! I've been a fan of the Evil Dead franchise since early 1990, when I got to see the first one. There are so many awesome quotes from all the movies, I got to check this one out! Favorite quotes: "We'll swallow your soul!" [Later, Ash: "swallow this!"] "I'm GOOOD Ash, you're BAAAAD Ash, goodie little 2-shoe goodie little 2-shoe [smack] goodie little 2-shoe!" "First you wanna kill me, now you wanna kiss me, ...Blow!" 😆 🤣 😂 So many more! Love me some Bruce Campbell!! Sorry he's not in this one 🫤 but I bet he's not, lol!
I’m slightly older than you. I saw The Evil Dead (1981) in 1986 when I was fourteen and it gave me nightmares. I saw Evil Dead 2 in 1987 almost exactly a year later when I was 15 and loved it. I was too old to be too scared at that age. Evil Dead Rises looks creepy as hell and I’m fifty-one.
And no one is talking about a Demon who love to kill, but drives all the way back to the woods that must be 2- 4hrs away instead of killing people city, what huh?
I went an early screening and got a box that had 1st aid supplies and that freaking cheese grater(usable, mind you) inside. Not into scary movies, but this one was very fun. I agree with your score 😉
Dan annoyed me. And that's why I don't like the majority of horror movies, even though I enjoy the Evil Dead franchise. The genre acts like they cannot make a film where horrific stuff happens to smart characters. With that being said, the mom's acting stood out to me too! She was dope. I also appreciated it were more practical effects than CGI. And overall the movie was hilarious.
@@MellowMutantPlanet someone was going to open the book either way. The deadites compel people to want to open the book. You literally can’t stop yourself alone.

The second evil dead isn’t really a sequel they lost the rights or something like that sow they did like a re telling of the first movie and continued from that point
The first 17 minutes or whatever it is, is considered a non-canon recap since they didn't have the rights to show footage from the original. This is according to Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell.
Did you know in the scene where the furst recording was playing that was ash from the third movie saying "kts called the book of the dead for a reason"

They had the chance to showcase all things horror whether movies, upcoming actors etc they were the best things to watch seeing this horror award show. Then we have Dead Meat Awards which is good and I wish more of it would be like seeing more award shows dedicated to horror.
I kept going back and forth and trying to figure out... Then settled on "Y'all did a good job with the gender non conforming representation." Either way, that human was touching shit they shouldn't have been touching.
Agree with everything in this review. Very enjoyable movie. I also liked that the mother looked young and had tattoos, she didn't look like a traditional mother, but the way she was always only concerned about her children, she acted like any mother would. Dan, Im until I googled the cast, I was wondering why a boy who could drive looked 12 and why he didn't try to do more to protect the family like a 16 or older boy would. Especially when it was his fault, and he took no responsibility for it. But now I get it.
The actor is a girl. She is trans boy. The character is a boy. And yes I will call her a she, God made her a girl, no amount of feelings, hormones, surgery will change facts. I am not misgendering her because she factually a her.
Evil dead 2 started it all for me. I watched that one first and the scene where ash has everything laughing at him and he had to cut off his own hand was hilarious but scary af! Lol
I have a theory about how Evil Dead 2 could be a sequel. At the end of The Evil Dead, when the evil spirit flies at Ash, maybe it deliberately made him lose his memory so that he would eventually come back to the cabin and bring more people, or in this case another person. It gives them more bodies to inhabit. So in Evil Dead 2, maybe he has no memory of being there before.
I saw an interview where they said Sam raimi wanted to use scenes from the first movie to recap it but wasn’t able to rights or something like that, so he had to reshoot a recap. Made it different so old fans wouldn’t be bored.
Great movie. My favorite Evil Dead is the second one, Evil Dead 2 Dead By Dawn. By the way, they previously stop the deadites by reading another passage in the book.
When I was a little kid, just after the ice age, they had "Double Chiller Theater" They had 2 of then lat night and late late night. I don't remember the movie, but a guy got a gift in the mail, a pair of binoculars. he opens them up, looks them over, and takes them to the window to look. A 7 inch like ice pike shoots out of the eye pieces. One of my brothers just as he raised the bino's to his eyes, grabbed my head and covered my eyes. Wondering what happened left more of a scar on my psyche, then I think watching it would have. I still remember 60 years later.
