One of his best albums. Unbelievable rhythms balancing passion with compassion. Incredible. Amos Hoffman playing is such an amazing addition to Avishai's music.
A gem. Love the groove, theme, interaction between the players. Super inspiring. In the same vein, I strongly suggest “Oriental Bass” from Renaud Garcia Pons.
Lewis Edwards Glad you liked it! Some other suggestions for you then! “Child King” by Jonas Hellborg from his album: “octave of the holy innocents”. I also strongly recommend Maria Joao/Mario Laginha tunes. Mario is an incredible pianist and Maria is a genius vocalist. Listen to “ha gente aqui” and “Sete Facadas”. Also you might have heard of Tigran Hamasyan, great stuff too (“entertain me”, “the road song” and “vardavar” are my favorite).
Just discovered him a month ago and I have introduced him to my son, who is an aspiring Bassist at Booker T Washington Visual and performing Arts High school. Mr Cohen is absolutely beautiful. The world should know him !!!
I love this song, and all of Mr. Cohen's work Everything he does is amazing. I just wish I could hear Arava here on TH-cam. He could really use the notoriety for one of the best instrumental jazz songs ever!
To me, initially, nothing could beat Elli, Ani Aamin and Samael... However, after many years of listening, this somehow became one of my definitive favorite tracks on the entire Continuo album (which also happens to be my favorite album of Avishai, by the way!) Still, the Nancy live version of 'calm' will always be in a league of its own :)
It's in the "progressive" tradition, unusual time signatures, loose tonic, minimal treatment. A lot of game music from the early 90's was heavily influenced by prog rock.
@@inkajoo also the seminote up from the root evokes a sinister, brooding feeling and so many boss themes used to oscillate between those two notes. it creates a pretty special turbulence, feeling of unease, lack of respite. coupled with the hectic design and patterns and unforgiving nature of a lot of NES/SNES/amiga etc bosses, it could make you shit your pants if you were a kid, walking into a boss room! lol
He does a lot of justice in his own particular way, through his music, to what I believe to be a great nation called Israel and it's people. Thank you.
Thank you very much for sharing this....invaluable. Could I ask your permission to use the drumless one for a drum cover of this song? I do not intend to make money out of it just for my own personal growth as musician. Thanks

Every nation is equally great. If you want to differentiate that some are "greater", well, we had it in 1939.
Best Song Ever
Just discovering... a lot to catch up... How I could live so long without knowing Avishai... a mystery.

4/4 with odd grouping and 13/8
I don't understand why you Say 13/8
it's all in 4/4, in some part it sounded like odd because they put the accent on a different beat on each bar.
@@imogendsmusic Haysan Morris is correct. The B section that starts at 0:48 has four bars of 13/8 alternating with four bars of 4/4
