I drove through these roadworks last year and had expected them to be finished by now. I love the walk along the Paseo and the restaurant C'an Blanc is fantastic. Great for a coffee and ice cream. Best wishes, John
I have a tiny bit of experience in construction Alex. And the work is a shambles. It should have been done in manageable packages. It’s looking like they are just trying to do to much. The machine at can blanc is a pilling rig. It’s for drilling holes. Looks like they are trying to strengthen the foundation of the bridge that it’s parked next to. Ps both melia hotels are open with no information about disruptions
Thanks Tommy, and yes, it would've been a lot better for the city if they just did this redevelopment bit by bit. Why do I feel I'll be back year in a year making the same video. I'd love to see how many businesses survive!
Thanks for this video. We stayed in the Melia Palma Marina in August 2024. The road works were still taking place. Thankfully, the noise wasn't bad in our hotel and a lot of the businesses on that side of the road are now opened. It is an eyesore, but it didn't take away too much from our holiday. One worry I would have would be if these works need to be paid for by raising costs for the businesses who would then pass it on to the customer. We found Palma already expensive in comparison to other European destinations we have visited. It wwas, however, really beautiful and we would like to return. Again thnkks for this video.
Staying 2nts at Melia Marina at the end of our Alcuida/Pollensa holiday Mid august, hopefully will be little better by then although, will spend most my time in Old Town
I loved this video because I stayed in Cala Major (Hotel Joan Miro) in April last year and walked past the roadworks walking into Palma. And it was nice to see the Porto Pi shopping centre on the video, I didn't know it existed until I happened to walk past it but I loved it. I loved my four days there but I left feeling like I'd only just scratched the surface of Mallorca and there is so much more that I want to see.
Hi Dave, you absolutely have to come back. I hope you walked up to Illetas too!! And if you didn't then yes, you must come back. Lots more to see here!
@MallorcaUnderTheSun No I didn't go to Illetas, I just looked it up on Google maps and I can't believe I was so close to somewhere that beautiful without visiting. I will definitely be back. I've wanted to move to Spain for a few years and I genuinely fell in love with Mallorca and it could be a potential home for me one day 🤞
Wow I look forward to the end result! Hope it’s successful for all the businesses along the front too and they all reopen 🤞Staying at the Saratoga in June 😎😀 thanks Alex 🩷
I have stayed in both the Azul and the Belver umpteen times but I wouldn’t stay there anymore, ok you have a nice view but for me now it’s going to be the Saratoga, I find the location better more central, but we always take a walk along the Paseo Maritimo. I don’t think the work will be completed until at least spring 2025. Thanks Alex.
Hi Alex I love your channel have been watching since last summer. I've been to S'illot as a 12 year old many years ago and have taken my own son to Alcudia twice about 10 years ago. I've wanted to go to Palma for years and hope to get back to Mallorca this summer. Could I ask you please is the mosquito problem as big as I've read online all over Mallorca or any areas its less prevalent? My son was a toddler in Alcudia and bitten alive! Bad enough it has put me off going back to beautiful Alcudia. And if you don't mind me asking 2 questions I'd love to go to Santa Ponsa, package holidays there seem pricier than other resorts though. Is can picafort too far to comfortably take a day out in Palma?
Hello! The mossies don't seem to be as bad in the South West, but then by October, they were all over. I was OK in Alcudia a copule summers ago though, and I never get bitten when filming up there. Maybe they come out in the evening. It's hard to guarantee where they may be this year! CAn Picafort is a little longer by bus - add half an hour - as it goes along the coast through Alcudia...
Can I ask what other resorts in Majorca are having work done as I was looking for a break at Easter or maybe just after. Was looking at Cala Bona or Can Pastilla never been to Can Pastilla and Cala Bona was my first holiday abroad so a very long time ago!!
I think all of them are to an extent. I have a video coming out from Santa Ponsa in the next day or so if you wish to check that resort out too. In the meantime, check out Magaluf and Palmanova (on the Live streams) to see what's happening there)
Thanks for showing us this! I was planning on visiting Mallorca in a few months but I will now not be visiting Palma again, until this shocking vandelism of Palma has been resolved. It should have been completed in stages! What absolute tonto approved this approach!
I drove along there again today, and while it does look like it's been worked on, it really just looks like stuff has just been moved around. It's still an awful eyesore mess!!!
Thanks for the update, Alex! I really enjoy your vlogs but haven't watched the channel for a few months as I'm dealing with a bereavement. I was interested in watching your recent vlog in Palma Nova as I wondered what had happened to the Hotel Cala Blanca. Now, I know, thanks to you! Silly new name, but I'll probably visit again in the future to see for myself what they have done to the place. Keep up the great work! John 👍
Sounds like there are some lovely plans for the area, but it really is a huge area for a building site and so sad that those restaurants, hotels and bars have such dismal views at the moment. I hope they get a move on and that the wait will be worth it for everyone.
Thank you for sharing Alex. It will be nice but not yet :) Also the 'OKUPA' is a major problem in Mallorca. Potential investors may change their minds after learning about it. Why doesn't the Spanish government resolve this issue?
Hi we are coming to Magaluf on the 18th February it looked so empty on your previous video are the restaurants really closed? If so I should cancel my trip because I am traveling with my kid and don’t want experience such an empty place with no place open and empty roads 😢
Hi, the tourism season doesn't start until 31 March where the island will be partically open for Easter. The proper start of the tourism season is the 1 May. You will see most resorts will be empty in February. Please look back on my past videos to see what it's like in Winter. I also have a video about "Things to do in the Winter". And also check the channel for information about weather too.
Its strange to see the work been carried out now considering the negative impact on businesses following covid . Would it not of made more sense to do the maintenance during covid period when things were quiet
I've made a video about renting a property here - th-cam.com/video/1wikcIMkD-Y/w-d-xo.htmlsi=hRX5uDDA190wQcuS - what to look out for but not specifically laws. Otherwise, yes, this might be something worth doing...

I literally cannot believe it looks pretty much the same as last year. I should run bets on the actual finish date!

I've been on 2 ferry's from Mallorca Puerto one in 2000 and one in 2009 both about March time. It takes 4 hours.

Oh wonderful! You won't be affected by works at the Sartoga! And it's a fab hotel!

It's disappointing they're not doing stuff out of season before tourists land. Contrast this to ibiza which is like a building site atm.
Hey Mick.- they are, just not very quickly ;)

👍
Great information Alex will be lovely when it is finished
Hahaha yes - and it’s funny cos we used to say that in the 1980s and it still hasn’t been finished 😂😂
Stayed in Palma Bellver in June. Hotel was great but the smell from diesel generators was ridiculous during the day. Won’t be back !
I hope the hoteliers take note! I can hardly say I'm surprised and I've very sorry to hear this. Can I ask, did they warn you before your trip?

Thank you so much, I nearly booked Melia for April?
Thank you for sharing Alex. It will be nice but not yet :)

It's absolutely crazy right. I agree with you and cannot understand why something hasn't been done.

Sa Coma is my favorite
What a mess indeed! With no one working it's going to take forever! Interesting to see especially for anyone booking the hotels along the paseo. 😒
Exactly!
where is the betlem video? WE NEED THAT NOW
Have I gone and promised something and not delievered?

But looks like a couple of years to go
Absolutely! This is no quick fix !
Great!!! It will be ready for 2025 when I visit!!
What a mess, not very inviting.
Will you consider doing a video about the rental laws in Spain 🤔

Haha, place your bets here! Rumour has it October. I say Spring 2025. Could go either way!
😢😢😢😢
yep, definitely :(
Mallorca style🙄🙄🙄
:)
It's a bit of a disgrace that the whole place has been ripped up. They will have to make more progress in the coming year than they did last year.
Exactly - it’ll be a case of spot the difference this summer - let’s see if there is a difference !
Everything seems to be "manyana". I won't be visiting Palma any time soon. 😤
Haha mañana mañana or next year !!
