MTR (My Traceroute) Linux network tool usage

  • In this video we look at MTR or "My Traceroute", a network troubleshooting tool which combines ping and traceroute.
    It can be used to see how many hops are between two network points, and any latency or packet loss between those two points.
    We look at output with hostnames and IP addresses, as well as the report mode. There are more options like packet size, output address, IPv4 and IPv6 covered in the man page.

    how to install ? I used tar xzvf mtr-0.86.tar.gz, then went to mtr folder, and mtr command are not working :o Also I tried to install it, but it's weren't successful. Help please

      Jexon Freeman What distro are you using? You can probably just "sudo apt-get install mtr" if Debian or Ubuntu, or "yum install mtr" if Fedora or CentOS.
