No till is not enough. No till + cover crops is not enough. No till + cover crops + livestock mob gets it done. Keep working. You are fortunate to be in a most beautiful place.

Hey, what does livestock mob mean?

@@osano-niko A mob does not roam free. They are confined, typically by electric fence, and moved frequently. Very beneficial for soil nutrients and condition.

Very interesting findings. Thanks. Hopefully you will do a follow-up with more details and better sound quality.

In this experiment what happened to the "cover crops"? Are they cut and used for animal feed or are they tilled back into the soil? Also, in regards to the wheat; I would even like to know how much of that was left in the field to be tilled back into the soil. I am not trying to be an ass; just trying to weigh the data provided.

But what covercrops did you plant?

Time and again I believe the problem is large scale agriculture - literally gotten out of hand, out of control.Soil suffers. Need nature back.

What was the mix in cover crop.

Results of research completed at Michigan State University and replicated in the USA and other countries have shown that SWRT subsurface membrane technology doubles the water holding capacity of coarse textured soils. Dramatic increases in biomass and crop production are possible and expected when more soil moisture is available throughout the growing season. #irrigation, #waterconservation, #agricultural

I was expecting the video to talk about cover crops suitable for dry regions. However, it seems the experiment try to answer whether the cover crops popular among wet regions also works in the dry regions. Am I right?

No, this presentation says nothing about the types of cover crops used in either wet or dry regions. The conclusion seems to be that cover crops can cause short-term yield reductions because they deplete moisture and nutrients. Of course, the nutrients will eventually return to the soil. Occasional fallow periods are still required to restore soil moisture.
