Just bought one of these in immaculate condition from ebay for $325. I7quad, 32gb ram, 2 ssd's and dvd drive, 240w psu and came with the dock and the battery slice. Absolute beast for video editing.
Ordered one of these off Newegg for $500. Looks like an absolute beast. I use a lot of old tech and this laptop seems like the best of both worlds (modern and old). Excited to try it out.
@@bittensoapproduction3818 yea dude, it's an awesome laptop. It's not for gaming but it's great for video editing and it has so many ports. It's the best of old and new tech. Super fast too cause of the SSD.
@@jankmedia1985 well thank you so much! I do edit and stuff, and i was hesitant about this one, could not find a proper information, its on sale for less then 500 now, and they claim it to be new but with some scratches or smth, so..
@@bittensoapproduction3818 nice. I upgraded the ram in mine too. I'm no expert with laptop specs but it's worked great for all of my needs. Not sure how it would handle 4k video editing but it's fine with 1080p.
@L14 Yea, upgrading the ram is pretty easy. Bottom slots are easily accessible. Top slots require the keyboard to be removed, I was kinda nervous about that process but it wasn't too bad. There's a video on TH-cam showing how it's done. Can't remember the name of it but you should be able to find it easy enough if you need to.
I also have the M4800 labtop. Its a great labtop. I love the key board. It's got a nice click to it. It reminds me of the IMB thinkpad keyboard from the 2000s
AWSOME I'm really happy you mentioned Solidworks I bin looking for a laptop that could do that and was looking att this model!! Maby if you hawe opportunity too show the dell working with solidworks would be awesome!!
You got the tray. Is that perchance a blu-ray drive in the optical bay? That's the one thing that has been bothering me about Dell's of late...the slot load drives. I mean, I know that disks are becoming obsolete, but they aren't yet..and I still occasionally get those mini disks, which are cool anyway. It's not like you're going to walk around and hand people flash drives, if you want to quickly give someone your work. And they had those business card shaped cd's at one point, which actually were quite effective. The point being that those will not work in a slot loader.
!! careful this is the 15,6 inch version!! other than that good review looking at getting one myself and the reviews have started to arrive looking good i all i can say
Nomadeur, good morning You are absolutely correct this is a 15.6 " laptop. It feel real heavy since the casing is metal. I really like the large amount of area that Dell gives you on the palm rests. We just upgraded the RAM to 32GB.
+Sam Waldbaum hey man this machine has two dimm slots. What i found interesting is thatis has capability of two hard drives. One is the regular laptop hard drive it could be sata hdd or solid state. It also has a tiny slot for an Msata tiny little hard drive that resembles a flash drive. awesome.
some m4800's have 2 memory slots, others have 4. determined by what cpu you got. 2 slots are just under the bottom cover, but to get to the other 2 slots you must remove the keyboard! see here: www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/SLN291056?docLang=EN
I want that so bad I've been using an old Toshiba core i3 machine bought back in 2011 and it has Windows XP 32 bit installed and 4 gigs of ram. That isn't enough for the things I me a computer to do and I desperately need a way more powerful computer and despite the price this seems like the best machine for me. I was originally looking at the ThinkPads but turned away when I found out about the SuperFish fiasco, and I shouldn't have to buy a new copy of windows just to wipe the HDD of my new laptop to get that crap off there.
razor213 what kind of monitor did you get for your M4800 ? Did you get the QHD+ (3200x1800) or the FHD(1920x1080) ? Also, what kind of battery is your laptop running on (9-cell or 6-cell) and how long does the battery usually last ? Thank you !
I can honestly tell you that it changed color with the light source that your are using. In the office it has a dark chocolate copper kind of color. In the sunlight the copper stands out a little more. Has a mechanical Steam punk kind of look because of the metal casing. I really like the feel of the laptop however the weight keeps me from traveling with it. Great laptop work horse in my book. We just upgraded the RAM to 32 Gb. Nice and fast.
How reliable are Dell workstations ? I heard that many people are complaining about motherboards that die or battery problems and so on. I was planing to get M4700 ( second hand ) but after reading all negative stuff about Precision now i am not sure anymore. maybe Lenovo workstations are better ?
Alessandro good morning. What I mean by that proprietary port is that eSata connection that comes on the docking station. Im sure there is this connections on other devices. This just allows the connection to easy marry to the dock. The laptop is is not a 17". If im not mistaken it is 15.6". It is all metal casing so it give it a real heavy feel I wouldnt travel to much with this puppy just because of the weight. We recently upgraded the RAM to 32 GB. It is a beast. Thanks
