As much as I admire and respect your bike restoration skills, watching you share these skills with your children is a wonderful way to start my day, an inspiration for all the dads out there watching.
This is awesome! I also did a build for my son and together with my son on a vintage 26 inch 1994 Breezer Storm and on a 2004 Trek OCLV racebike! He loves the bikes and will always remember that we built his bikes together in the garage. Building something with your hands together with your son is priceless in life! Greets from Germany!
My dad always watched your videos and he was inspired to repair a bike too. My grandfather gave us a old bike and we restored it for like 3months and now we are riding that bike for almost everyday!
Usually I ride with my daughter and my wife, but corona has put us on restraints. Yesterday was one of those darker days, where everyone was pissed for various reasons, but we decided to take a small ride to the grocery store (responsibly, of course, with social distancing measures and all) and everything became brighter! Your message at the end reminded me of that fantastic feeling of what being a dad is like: surely there are bad times, but also good times, and they make it worth A LOT! You literally made me cry, man... Thanks from Brazil.
i miss my Gary fishers i had 3. bikes like many other things are not what they used to be. this was a great build and i loved every second of this video.
I like to see your son doing this. I introduced my daughter to re-built bicycles by bringing hers in a bucket, and we put it together in her living room. It's about four years later, and she disassembled it to spray.bike it with her own hand-drawn design and color pattern. I feel your happiness.... "awesome awesomeness"
Once again BOB would be proud.....No dropper post? Awesome color . Most collages have bike shops close do to the starving student theme and in need of a talented wrench turner as your boy has become . Proud of him FYI that is how I got my start back in the 70s.
Dude, I’m so glad you are starting to get the attention I’ve always felt you’ve deserved since watching your first videos. Truly amazing! Oh and about being a dad, couldn’t agree more.
@@oldshovel hey man I'm gonna do my first build ever! Do you or your sponsors have any deals going on? I'm still in school so I'm trying to save as much as I can!
UR correct! I ran from fatherhood for 37yrs. My own personal reasons... Being a father is so awesome! I'm in betwixt & between. I wish I had kids earlier, but I don't think I would have been the same father & he's such a good kid.. He's an unbelievably good damn kid! Like he's been here before and knows the game! I just watch him go... and give direction as needed... But always, I let him be him & it makes me so proud!
I love the sunset linear fade paint job on this one! It's great to see father and son working together in harmony, doing what they both love...building beautiful bikes. We can tell how proud you are of both 👍😆. Love your vids.
If your son wants to see what a graduation ceremony feels like. Tell him to wear a shower curtain. While he's doing that have him sit in a folding chair in your garage. Then proceed to bore him to death reading the phone book for 3 hours. Then randomly call his name.
Our oldest grandson also graduated with no-frills....he is taking a short break to travel to New Zealand, then start the spring semester at Georgia Tech...His passion is Micro Mechanical Engineering. Awesome, really nice to see you and son do this rebuild together. Really nice job as always. This is one of those things he can pass along to his future son or daughter how to do.
My 4 year old son would always snoop around me while tuning/fixing my bikes. Definitely this gonna be one of my ultimate #dadandsongoals. Bike builds are really one of the best ways to bond with your kid/s.... i can really see behind this build is a great dad and son relationship... thanks for this vid @oldshovel !
I can't believe you painted that bike with paint in aerosol cans. It came out fabulous, as if done with an airbrush. You really have skill. I went to art school & I don't think anyone there was any better @ painting objects. I immediately thought of Klein before I started watching the video. I had a Klein road bike with the signature blue been fade. All the parts you picked are exactly as I would pick. I learned how so many things are done during a build that I wondered about. I still have my Gary Fisher with Genesis frame in a storage locker. Maybe I'll get it & do some up grading. It's fine the way it is but it could be so much better like yours. You & your son did a great job! Be safe. 👍☮️🌞🦠😷🚲
I am blown away with what you are doing with old bikes and transforming them into ready to ride beauties that you give your touch of class restorations.... A humble gentleman and keep up the great work.
Well, he is learning something that will bring him money while he is going through college. A lot of people have bikes and have no idea how to take care of them.
This may be your best retro mod to date. Amazing paint job, Chris King headset, nicely spec’d and those brakes! No joke, you need to start a business of taking older bikes and updating them with modern components. There’s a lack of affordable bikes right now and this would be an amazing way to get more good bikes into the hands of people that want them. 👍🏼
Indeed the moon rise finish and the many coats of lacquer gives a luxurious finish to the bike! Gary Fisher should be proud of this new life of his famed product! Your thoughtful assistant participation in this rebuild makes the show even more valuable! Cheers to you both! The component update is also tempting to update my son’s Cannondale M400 bike!
Awesome build and priceless time with your son. I restored a bike for my son just after separating from his mum and with little money...we made a great bike which although he has grown out of now, he loved for a couple of years.
This was great remembering my 1991 Procaliber I loved dearly and gave to a friend eventually years later after his bike broke in the middle of doing research for a Mountain Bike Trail guide book in our area here in the Canadian Rockies. He finished his book then I told him to pass the bike on to another person. Sometimes I say I wish I kept it but then again it served its purpose with many great years of riding from Mont St Anne, Bromont Que, Vermont, Colorado, Moab Utah and many more trails. Its also nice to see you with your son doing a project I'm fortunate my daughter graduated last year but is home and we ride together and my son is learning to drive but we all got to ride on our locals trails this weekend. All the best from the Canadian Rockies!
Oh man , that's one of my favorite paint jobs , the moonrise fade from the old Klein's. I'm not a 29er guy mostly because I haven't had one yet .but this bike is so sweet. I just love the magura brakes, and the Chris king head set. You and your son did a fantastic job. This build is one for the books thanks old shovel
This is a dream. Last weekend I was in a goodwill and I stumbled upon a Gary Fisher Sugar 3 that was just sitting with some kids bikes. It was in great shape.. and it was my size.. So obviously I took it home with me. While I was looking it over, an older gentleman that was looking at another bike asked me if I thought it was worth working on. I thought back to this channel and I told him "I think there's still some life in there worth living"
I always had faith you could pull off a Klein quality paint job and this bike has proven that, beautiful work. I would say this is the best one, but I’m sure we’ll see even better soon, can’t wait to see what’s next.
Beautiful bike. Love the colour scheme and the fluorescent pop it has. Could you do a video breaking down how much a restoration would cost RRPP? I’ve got an old steel frame and considering it. Thanks!! Love your videos.
Stunning, as always. I wish I could do 1/4 of what you do. I am doing a rebuild project on an old mountain bike for a friend who has always wanted to ride. I was just happy to successfully install a new drivetrain. New tires arrive next week - then, she is riding.
Tactile skills and outside fun - key to being a Dad. Not to mention I just get inspired by your builds to do many things - even kitchen cabinets! ha ha.. I noticed the sandy texture on the prior build and wondered how durable that was going to be.. you addressed that in this video. Also see you're wearing a hat while spraying this time... Oh and take us out riding in Utah on one of your builds... let's see it run through its paces.. and enjoy the vista too.
Once again what a great build ...did some bike tuning with my 15 year old son - we both learning and both trying to patience with each other ... it’s hard.. lol
I'd sand the actual flourescent paint if you want it smoother. But I'm also an amateur so don't take my word for it. It's what I've don on my paint jobs because the can paint rarely come out smooth. I don't use spray.bike btw, just car paint I bought from the local hardware store. edit: Oh, yeah. Fantastic job. I'm actually changing my 1996 Cycle Pro Colorado from green with silver letters to something like this. Maybe green-orange? IDK too many choices.
