I remember being in a choir course in college for two semesters and this older gentleman who was a second bass like myself actually had a smoother voice and for our Christmas concert he was sick so I was in the back basically alone but we got to know each other and he was very kind... The next semester he passed away and we sang this song in his memory and never had a concert that semester. He is truly missed.
Bravo!!!! I sang this song with my high school choir almost 30 years ago and I was humming it this morning and now listening to this rendition brings back memories! Thank you for uploading this video!
I’ve sang it twice and conducted it during rehearsal, it is truly a joy to perform and conduct! Can’t wait to do this with my students when I start teaching!
@@avadakedavra9500 I agree. Today was our concert for the college! I can't wait to do this with my future students. The video of me conducting this piece is on my youtube channel!!!
Oftentimes I dream of music, Of the river that freely flows. And it sings a song sweeter than honey, One everybody knows. Late at night, I hear it singing. Then again when I wake at dawn. And it fills me up with hope and goodwill, The will to go on, Go on. (Chorus) There is a river in Judea That I heard of long ago. And it's a singing, ringing river That my soul cries out To know. I believe it keeps on trav'lin' But it rests on the Sabbath day. And the time when it pauses in stillness, I almost hear it pray. When I'm weary and downhearted, How I long for the song it sings, For the calm within its gentle blue, The peace that it brings, it brings. (Chorus) There is a river in Judea That I heard of long ago. And it's a singing, ringing river That my soul cries out To know. May the time not be too distant When we meet by the river (meet by the) shore. 'Til then dream of that wonderful day As we sing once more, once more: (Chorus) There is a river in Judea (hallelu) That I heard of long ago (hallelu), It's a singing, ringing river That my soul cries out (my soul cries out) To the river in Judea. (optional repeat) Hallelujah source: www.lyricsondemand.com/f/feldmanjacklyrics/riverinjudealyrics.html
My middle school choir has a "Shindig" at the end of every school year. It's a concert where we pretty much turn into a giant glee club, singing mainstream music with choreography and everything. At the end of the concert, the 8th graders get up on stage and sing this, as a way to kind of send them off... It always sounds beautiful but it could be so much better, if it weren't for everyone on stage, including our teacher, bawling. Alumni of our school sing with us, too. My teacher started playing it on the piano today because we had free time and me and a friend of mine just broke down because we knew we would sing it this year.
I remember singing this in my middle school choir 28 year ago and it's still just as great of a song now as it was then I get that same joy and happiness now when I hear and sing it just as I did then
This is a great reference recording of this piece. Would love a transcription of this specific accompaniment - it's got some great licks that I'd like to learn. :)
I was a Tenor II in high school my senior year, in 2002-2003. This is still my most memorable and favorite song we did, besides the SATB version of "May It Be" from lord of the rings. I still know my whole part by heart and haven't sang it in years. It used to almost bring me to tears singing it. Thank you for posting a version of this that sounds how my very talented choir did back then.
I sang this with my school's choir in freshman year of high school and it is still one of my favorite songs to this day. It is incredibly fun to sing and I just can't get enough of it
I accompanied this piece for a choir decades ago, then my director whipped this demo recording out tonight... WOW! The enhanced dynamics of the choir (not in the published score) and THAT PIANO ARRANGEMENT really takes this piece to a whole new level. Someone here suggested a transcription a few months ago... I wish there was the corporate will to pursue this. And if there were only someone with the skill to actually do it [walks away, whistling]...
This is a song I remember well in choir. I was a tenor. If any choir directors are reading this comment, know that Judea can be pronounced Ju(dee)a or Ju(day)a. Neither is more correct than the other but I personally prefer Ju(day)a, it sounds nicer.
I'm gonna cry. I miss high school choir so much. This song was one of my spring concert favorites.
Put that in #vent
Same imma def cry my senoir year
I did this in middle school last year in 7th grade OMG it was a blast
I’m doing this song rn for middle school choir 😊

I miss Mrs. McNamara and Ms. Adley. Wadsworth High School and definitely choir. Best moments of 2004-2008; Miss all my friends and classmates!
i feel bad for the people who can’t sing this because of the pandemic, it was a truly beautiful song to sing.

This is one of my favorite songs in my Choir class, the parts blend very well.
By the way, I do the Baritone part.

Sung this at the memorial of my late headmaster quite the emotional piece

I haven't sang this song in eight years, boy did all that emotion come back.
Love this-- singing 🙏🎶it and listening to it!

upfront monkey I sang this my senior year, except it was SSA version. And then I sang it again in college! And I hated saying it 'Ju-dee-ahh'.🙄🙄🙄

Bravo (brava?) to the accompanist. I always search for this particular performance because of the masterful piano.
I agree! That was some PLAYIN'!!! 👏🏿👏🏻👏🏾👏🏼👏🏽
Love the piano accompaniment-bass line.

I loved this song! I sang it last year as a 7th grader in the Alto part! We did the SAB version i cant find on youtube music
We did this in our towns children’s choir and I sang soprano for it, it was one of our favorites!
I purchased this for our church choir. Can not wait to sing it in our service!
Me too
Using it for All Saints Sunday, paired with Schwoebel 's An Expression of Gratitude.
My church choir sang this at the funeral of a fallen choir member. Rest in peace comrade.
I remember singing this in high school in the soprano section. 😅
My choir sang this once and it became one of my favorites
man, i gotta see the river for myself!
if it’s even half as good as the song is i’m in good shape.
We sang this at our Spring Concert at my High School. Tonight we are singing it at our High School's Baccalaureate.
I miss choir sooo much i hate this quarentine crap
:( graduated last year. I underestimated how important choir was to me
Graduating high school this year this is still my favorite piece from sophomore year
I’m singing this for my sophomore year and I love it, kinda scared for the future but learning to live in the present :)
Love this! Words so appropriate for the struggle through Covid lockdown, deaths, all.
Bert Van Dyke best High School Choir Director to grace this earth
I got the solo in this LETSS GO
We used to open choir practices with this song to get us in the mood for music and set our hearts and minds in a collective direction.
I ❤️ LOVE this!
Love this song! We're singing it next Sunday ☺️
Fabulous!
We sang this 4 the Homecoming Concert in 7th grade along w Homeward Bound In Flanders Fields and Siyahamba

Where are my fellow basses at??
Seventh grade all over again. Who else here was a 90s teen?
I’m in 7th grade doing this
I don’t like it... it’s too gospel for me
we live the same life 30 years apart?
I love it
Sang this in April 2018 with the chancel choir. But for some reason it feels like something sung at a funeral. Maybe because we couldn’t stop crying?
I sang this in 1991 or 1992 for high school choir.
Doing this for Fall Concert in High School rn😂
This song always made me think of liminal spaces, especially with that echoey piano
Singing this song in forte was so awesome, sounds a bit weird when it’s not bass
This was our song for region. And it was so pretty. And I was in 7th grade remembering now as a junior in high school
this song slaps
In 7th grade and learning for my concert tomorrow and finally got that last note right
Ah this is the song that I’m doing rn in middle school lol
Same

Me and my choir were gonna sing this for the concert. But now we cant because of that stupid virus. :(
Sorry to hear that, bud. As far as I'm concerned, my school still has that concert go underway in May and we're performing this song too. Who knows...
@@KrabbyLama wow. Well hope the concert goes well
I love dis song but not the ending. (Sorry for being mean I'm Catholic ) not really!? 😁😁😁😁
We did it in church about 4 months ago. A wonderful piece!
I hate the dynamics in this arrangement! Especially the piano banging on through the entire piece. Lovely song but YIKES!
저는 바리톤이지만 발음이 좋으셔서 열심히 따라 부르고 있습니다. 감사합니다 ~~
