Cont- When our 2 kids were in Junior High I took a 2nd job for 7 years and banked the money. This $ paid for their College. At our 25th anniversary we had always drove new vehicles (paid for with cash) and took nice Vacations (Hawaii, Vegas, etc...). At 25 years had NO DEBT, EVER except the home mortgage. Never recieved outside help, or inheritance or lotto. Hard work, long hours and most importantly Financial Discipline. Again, anyone can do it but you must be very strong willed.

I married in the late 70's at 21. Wife and I made some basic rules up front. I put her through Nursing School and she put me throught the Police Academy. We always lived on MY earnings alone and put her earnings in the bank, even though for a couple of years she earned more than I. We NEVER carried any debt and paid our Credit Cards in full each month. Within 10 years we bought a nice, new home (10% down) a new car and pickup (paid cash), furnished the home w/o debt. Anyone can do it.

I hear what you are saying but question. If someone who went to college for years to become a doctor versus someone who didn't go to college but tells you, " I read books or my friend told me how to transplant a heart." Who would you choose to save your life. Also family businesses doesn't always guarantee lasting wealth. There could be someone in the fam who fuck up the business. Back in Warren's and Bill's day college wasn't emphasized as much as it is not. Certificates are required now.

I met Warren Buffett. He's rad. He drove an old car, with a custom license plate that said THRIFTY. This dude is cool as a human being. I can't speak for any of his holdings but what a super guy. I am not making this up.

According to the latest available figures from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), there are some 130,000 foster children in the US.
Small drop in the bucket if you consider that there are over 300 million Americans, while in Canada with 34 million inhabitants, there are around 29,590 foster children.
Whatever that means, these are children who've entered the foster care system because they were abused, neglected, or abandoned.
    Read: ABUSED, NEGLECTED, or ABANDONED.

Humans have "children", goats have "kids", dogs have "pups" and roaches have "nymphs".
The only difference between these species is that roaches succeed by numbers, dogs will die defending their pups, goats put up a mild fuss before giving up, and humans ... humans head for the hills at the slightest feeling of discomfort and leave spouses and children to fend for themselves.

    There was no script!
I am the founder of 13 habits.org I shared some ideas with Mrs Davies class at Kamo intermediate school in Whangarei New Zealand. I just had some cool artwork created by Annette Lodge and are simple story about "the 13 habits that made me billions" of Warren Buffett, the Oracle of Omaha. the length of the class was 50 min each session spread over four weeks.

This is nice - the teacher should be congratulated. These children are lucky.
I look back on my childhood and wish that I had been taught these things. My schooling instead prepared me and to be a parasite rather than a contributor. It took years of hard work railing against perceived injustices until I finally bedded down the same ideas.

I prefer to take responsibility for my own feelings, rather than blaming them on a video. It seems you didn't view it with both a positive & open & critiquing mind. For example, a brief critique would be: "These are solid principles which I understand fully and practice, such as integrity. However, I prefer studying concepts which are more unique and complex."

people laughed at me when I was failing school, but since I was 10, I've been obsessed with computer security and went home everyday and read and worked. Sure, I fucked my school grades up, but I outmatch seniors in college who are majoring in Comp Sci and they get frustrated when they boast about their BS in it and I mentioned being published for writing security papers :3

Yes, that is "low" if you can achieve being a doctor, yet you aim for being a nurse, in context that is low. If you have the ability to be an NFL player, yet settle for being a pee-wee football league coach, that is "low" . If you were a doctor, and chose to be a nurse, that is different. If you choose to be a nurse to train other nurses to be doctors, that is different. Again, why in the world would you look at a vid titled "13 Habits that made me Billions"

At exactly what age do you feel it would be appropriate to teach children about money? Would you believe you should say before, during or after they ask, "Mommy/Daddy I want this or that can you please buy it for me?" In The Financial Peace University program produced by Dave Ramsey, his Financial Literacy programs for home & school begin as early as age "3"! If not then, when?

The irony is, the teachers in this video still don't get it, and probably will never get it. The woman in the video makes the rather typical statement that the top students in her class will probably make the best use of this education. There are many people who have created net worths greater than $1 million, and many in the billionaire club as well, who didn't perform well in formal education. By going AGAINST the grain, they set themselves up for great success in the real world.

Ur right.. School can be a sucker for the individual but it inrich the society and state. So u can go calculate on wether ur person would grow more within the frames of security and wealth or in a poorer society with bigger risks and unsergenty.
But ur right.. Ultimately long schooling times is a way for the state to gain control and stability. If its better or worse for a individuals growth depends on the person imo

If a person's passion is to be a street mime, they will suffer financially. The goal is to pursue something that will create a good financial situation for yourself. Once a financial stability is established, then the person who wanted to be a street mime can do it for simply their love of doing it.

"The race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, but that's the way to bet."
The woman in your example is talking statistically. Smart and educated people form the greatest group of winners.
On the other hand, by "going against the grain" as you put it, for every one winner there are 9,999 losers.
Nobody should pass up the little successes while waiting for the "big score" which may but most likely never cross their path.
I'm no Bill Gates, but I'm better off than most.
    :-)

That's how you destroy the society. Kids have to be taught to seeing a better future not just to let them go by themselves. The kids will do what they like/love to do not to do what they have to do, look at a clock/watch every time to remind themselves when to go to work etc.

Who gives a fuck whether or not they were reading a script. The book seems positive and it seems like it would be good for kids to read. I've studied similar advice for adults and it helped me increase my income.

While I don't know where "very biased" fits in your opinion, I totally agree that wannabe parents should be educated, or as you say "get the knowledge they need" but before, not after. Making sure "they got it" would be a good idea.

kids should be taught about money.. also economics, politics..and how the banks work so hard at ensuring we owe them money for the rest of their lives.. this way we can avoid it, money is useless and worthless paper, banks lend out fictional money that they do not own, they then get paid back with interest and lend out that same amount X 9... to someone else.. thats how the banks work so debt = money for the banks, no debt = valuable money for the general public, kids should be taught this too!

Mr Hanks, your comment is proper and well funded, however, you have to realize that not many people grow administrating or knowing what to do with money. Specially, the parents that are trapped in mediocrity. I also will argue that kids need, of course, innovation, emocional inteligence but they will need to hand money in the future. Greetings!

I think it's wonderful, Because the school I went to didn't teach anything that prepared me for the real world. Which is SAD. I agree about the real beauty and value of life and nature. But money takes a big part of life especially if you want to value nature and enjoy life to the fullest. you ask why money takes a big part. well if your living in poverty you don't have the money to go to zoo's or to nature parks or anything like that your kind of stuck. But the earlier they learn the better!

We teach them that they can just step back and let someone else fix it for them. So anything like this would be a great thing....Sorry if I make anyone mad. Our kids are shown from an early aget that we are all equal and we dont have to earn anything. Whats mine is mine and whats yours is mine now.

If you don't desire to make a lot of money that's perfectly fine, yet why denigrate those that do? You choose not to actuate all your abilities and yet insult others that do? In my opinion that's a form of laziness and sabotage. That's like someone with two arms has the ability to use both arms to carry 4 bundles to give to others, yet chooses to use one arm to lift one bundle. How does that honor anyone? How does that help as many people as possible?

The title of the vid is "13 Habits that made me Billions" if you are content with where you are and what you are doing why even look or comment on the video? Well, I can answer that, you are not content, and you are not satisfied. So rather than doing the work, you set your sites so low...SO LOW, that you can hit what you aim for, and then denigrate those who aimed higher and hit and/or exceeded their own expectations. Sounds more like envy is what you have in you.
