    Have completed 20 dives with the D5 and as mentioned above the clarity of the screen underwater is excellent, the illumination is constant during dives, it does not keep going off as it did in the demo. All dives are logged automatically as soon as you get near your smartphone.
    No complaints so far.

      I have over 90 dives with the d5. The screen dims most of the time I am diving so I frequently have to reactivate the computer. Battery life for the d5 is not very good, I have to recharge after two or three dives of about 1 hour each, also, to extend battery life Suunto tells you to put the dive computer in airplane mode and turn off dive functions. The airplane mode isn't a big deal, but I forgot to turn on dive functions one day and the d5 was useless to me underwater (I will add that on that day I was using the d5 as my backup so it wasn't a big deal except confusing why it wasn't working.) just my experience/opinion after use.

      Peter McRee Since this was written, the d5 has gained the ability to know when it enters the water and will automatically turn on dive functions. I’ve also not had too much of a battery issue. It usually lasts about 8-9 hrs of diving which is good enough for a weekend, but I still charge it with a battery pack after it gets to its 6th hour.

    Couldn't be happier with my D5. I recently updated the firmware on it and got a whole bunch of new functionality. The brightness is fine. The video doesn't do it justice. I actually have it tuned down on lowest setting to save battery and it's still fine. Under water brightness stays constant and I have no problems whatsoever with it.

    Hi Mark and Simply Scuba, i like yours videos but always the reviews are short in depth. You only touch the basic and waht the manual says.... I would apreciate if you go for an actual test of this products... Use it for a month or more and then shoot a review. This will really improve the quality of the review. Cheers!

    I have a d5 and was choosing between that and the Teric. This review doesn’t do the d5 screen justice, it looks amazing underwater! I don’t plan on tech diving anytime soon so the additional £400 for trimix didn’t really make sense.

    I own Teric about 5 months now, high brightness makes it as a torch when night diving. Cons- compass needs to be calibrated often and alarm you can’t hear them. I wear scubapro 7.5mm semi dry and most of the time wouldn’t feel the vibration neither.

    I just bought a Teric yesterday and couldn't be happier with it so far. I haven't been diving with it yet though. I did look at the D5 before making my decision and after checking out the Teric in person it was a very easy decision. The Teric does everything! Plus it's a lot easier to see versus the D5. Mine was $1095 at a dive shop in FL which is about the same as buying it online. The D5 I looked at was $900. The Teric is well worth the extra $$!

    • @SunDevil527

      SunDevil527 The D5 is around $850 to $900 online and the Teric is around $1095 online which is what I paid at the dive shop. I didn’t get robbed. I researched the hell out of both computers and shopped everywhere for the best price and didn’t see anything less than $1095 for the Teric. It’s worth the extra money for sure!

      @@NCSandS I am talking about the D5. Both dive shops near my workplace are offering $5000 HKD / 640 USD (sliver) and $5500 HKD / 700 USD (all black). If you bought the D5 for 850 or 900 USD, you definitely got robbed. By the way, I live in Hong Kong.

    Good Comparison. Two missed points, Teric went with a Standard Watch Band Size, so you can actually buy 1000's of different bands, and at cheaper prices. Teric Alarm stinks, which I can not hear. Have to use another watch (OCi) for Pool and Snorkel Sessions.

    I currently have the Teric. It is amazing and I have zero complaints. Had the luxury of handling the D5. I couldn’t see the screen! From where i live in the states, the D5 and Teric are almost equal in price. Buy the Teric, hands down!

  • @flyinghigh370
    @flyinghigh370 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I bought the Teric and AI transmitter for it yesterday. Spent two hours I the pool playing with a bunch of new things. I love the Teric. I also had the opportunity to handle a D5 in person side by side with the Teric. Night and day difference between the two. The Teric is heavier and has a bigger screen and is 10 times brighter, but can easily dim the screen to High, Med, Low, dim and off. The Teric 4 button operation is stupid simple to use. Every screen has a little picture on the screen showing the operation of the button, so you never need to remember what button to push to activate your changes for instance. The price is so close I consider them being marketed to the same crowd. $$ shouldn't be a deciding factor at this level of computer. The biggest thing I noticed in the store was the screen was so dim on the D5. I'm sure underwater where it's meant to be used it would read fine, but for all the surface stuff you do like dive planning and basic watch functions, the Teric wins. I also tried using the menu on the D5 and it's not nearly as easy as the Teric. The D5 cannot display as much info as the Teric and I like info. Super happy with my Teric!! Happy Diving!!! Thanks Simply Scuba. I've only watched about 100 of your videos so far....

    What about the elephant in the room?
    One will try to kill you on deco, one is an amazing tool to have on a dive.
    The Suunto fused RGBM is not predictable and will lock you out if it doesn't agree with your deco plan.

  • @Nicho_dive
    @Nicho_dive 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    D5 has (sadly) a charging cable that will break its inner fuse (that can't be replaced) if any piece of metal touch the pins while it's plugged. It might happen as the end of the cable is magnetic. The cable is expensive and can't get find that easily. During diving, i love D5, but it lacks some customization (ascending speed range, GF algorithm). Outside water, it's not a relevant smartwatch however. Works really nicely with the emitter.
    D5 isn't perfect, but definetly still a very good product. If your heart is in balance and can afford, go for teric.

    Let me tell you. They are both great but Teric is better with the battery and that is for sure. However it is almost 2x more expensive! I do not buy that Teric is for technical diving. With gloves and maybe with dry suit those watches type computer are not gonna work really and you will buy big technical computer anyway. So you judge yourself if the long buttery is that great for so much money. Or buy Suunto D4inovo, cheaper and great product.

    Suunto watch is just dim and hard to read, especially under water

    your strap point is bogus, the teric has a 22mm standard lug size so you can use any strap you can think of, including nato straps, leather straps, silicone straps, metal bracelets etc...

    This is an unfair shoot out doing a mid priced dive computer to a hi end dive computer.

    Whoever thought of this review does not really know much about dive watches. Comparing recreational diving D5 with tech diving Teric is like comparing Smart car against Ford Raptor for an off-road drive. How does it make sense?! Other than the rechargeable battery and screen colors, there is not much to compare. Teric is a trimix-enabled, deco-capable, CCR technical watch, none of which is the ability of D5. Who thought of this comparison?!

    If you break a deco ceiling for more than 3 minutes on the Suunto D5 the software lock you out and no deco info will be displayed. That's as useful as a broken leg, bordering on criminal, so no Suunto for me.

    More important than what was pointed out., is that the D5 is far superior due to it's durability, reliability and algorithm.

      Len Wittrock I have the D5, sometimes wish I bought the Teric, but can you elaborate on the superiority. I for one think the screen is better in bright sunlight than the Teric. Since we pass more time out of the water than diving in our daily life, the extra battery life is welcome since I also use it as a watch.

      Durability? The Teric use sapphire for it's crystal while the D5 use mineral glass, and the Teric uses screws instead of spring pins(spring pins on a 1k dive computer is almost criminal, what use is a dive computer at the bottom of the ocean?) to hold the straps. Reliability and algorithm? The D5 lock you out if you miss a deco ceiling, the Teric take this into account and keep you safe.

    Most of you forget the basic and most important things, this is a toy. It could make your dive safer and easier but never rely on it. Do your homework, read and learn the tables, and never ever use it for tech dive. Ridiculous how things going in the wrong way nowadays.

      I made this statement for a reason and for some individuals. Do you know how many times I encountered a guy who played with the computer underwater and made almost an uncontrolled ascent to the surface or just gets stuck in a certain depth for no reason cos he tried to figure out why the PC gives him different information about the gas quantity like the diving gauge? One guy made an uncontrolled ascent from 28m to 5m and later to a surface in under a minute, the reason why is because he tried to change some setting on a dive computer he didn't remember the dive and was lucky as hell(maybe because he's original job has to do with commercial diving). The second incident last year was after the end of the AOWD course. The group was sent to finish the tanks, one of them ended up 12 m deep digging himself into a mud (lake) with 20 bar of gas holding his computer and trying to figure out what to do...I was diving around just in case to check how do they navigate underwater. After the dive, he said he was confused about the different gas quantity which was shown on the computer and the diving gauge. But the problem was he stayed down with almost no gas...The brain is working in "strange" mod underwater.

      @@tomasdolezsal5244 seems to be the fault of clumsy/unadapted divers rather than of the computer...
