If i remember correctly, the labor to rebuild was way more than it cost this customer to replace the whole engine. Plus, this customer got a 3 year or 100k warranty. Can't beat that!
Had to do that to mine. The driver side of the engine had no compression at all. When we pulled it out all the valves were burnt and in the shape of ovals. Got a new engine in it and runs great :)
I have an 04 aviator with 126k miles. I picked it up this weekend from the original owners for $6000 It has been babied and runs amazing. I am reading trouble with these engines online here and there. What is the weakness in the 4.6? I have seen a few with low compression. How does this happen?
@sunnymuffins13208 This vehicle is AWD the oil pan is super close to the front Differential. This makes removing it the old fashioned way much harder and it would take longer than to get the body off.
The owner must really love that vehicle, because that's an outrageously expensive repair, plus the parts, holy shit! I was quoted $6500 to replace mine, with a used motor, 2 wheel drive. Bad engineering on the drivers side head, they call it the dead head, 7 and 8 have lost the valve guides, because the cooling system has a dead end .
i pissed off the boss today so now i have to change the engine in a navigator,, instead of a hot assistant i get to work with a grouchy old guy who insists it's faster to pull it out the top
I tip my hat off to you guys, as an ex toyota tech, all I can say is this is why I'd never go back to wrenching full time, I'd take my car to you guys if I had a problem like this. I also like you guys hired a girl tech, never seen one in real life before lol
@rlwillett This engine has an inherent design problem with the Cylinder head the only way to fix it is to get a new updated Cylinder Head. On this truck it costs so much to do a Head job and you only get a 12k Mile warranty. With a Rebuilt Engine you get a 100K warranty much smarter with your money.
awesome thanks! I thought I read where front clip was part of body, but I don't know about that... Also what about transmission? just unbolt bell housing from block?
i never pulled front clip i just pull from front, yes on bolt the transmission then the torque converter bolts disconnect exhaust pull intake take engine hoist pull up off motor mounts pull forward alittle bit pull back then motor will clear make sure u blockup the tran
just wanted to say thanks. I finally had some time to work on this. got the motor out and just waiting on a rebuilt one to get shipped out. there was plenty of space to get motor out not sure why they say to take body off. i just took the plenum off, didn't even have to remove the intake to get it to clear. the only real tricky part was getting it to clear the front clip because the engine hoist barely went high enough.
Great Video guys, but really taking the body from the frame to replace the engine? This is an awful design from Lincoln. No wonder I'd never buy any c**p from D3
you guys lost me "Changing a engine out because cylinder 3 has low compression' that could have been fixed a lot cheaper than getting another engine. I just dont see the cause for a new engine in this case, maybe just wanted to show everyone how it could be done? i dunno? still lost
Thank you for taking the time to make these great videos.
Thanks! Ashley is a great technician and we're proud to have her on our staff.

im looking to go into diesel mechanics and i can't stop watching your awesome videos thank you for putting them out :D
Not bad considering all the work you had to do. You did a great job.
Я менял двигатель на Dodge Ram. Потратил на эту работу три рабочих дня. Все делал один. Напарник помог только АКПП установить.
Do you have a rebuild video? I have a 2004 and its like info and videos etc are nonexistent for these aviatora
Awesome video. Quick question, whats the price range for a job this size? I'm having the same issue with my aviator. Thanks
used to fix cars like this, now i leave it up to the professionals :)
Will an older 5.0 fit and work worth the transmission? Looking to do the same on a mountaineer.
where's the cup with all the leftover nuts and bolts
Had to do that to mine. The driver side of the engine had no compression at all. When we pulled it out all the valves were burnt and in the shape of ovals. Got a new engine in it and runs great :)
did you have to remove the body to get the engine out? I have same issue with mine, lost almost allcompression in cylinder 7 and a lot in 8.
Amazing all this for a engine swap ... Crazy

wow :) ok Question what do you guys do with the a/c system? im sure you had to drain it right?
That shop looks huge.. how many lifts?
Thats alot of work how much money is all that with the engine?

No. The mileage also applies to more than just the engine, as there a many different components that can go bad with age.
I'm not sure which is more of a turn on. lady tech ashley or that 4 valve 4.6
safety glasses people! Nice videos on here. thanks
@mrjost55 No we drain the fluids before we take the engine out.
@rickybobby315 We remove the freon and then we refill it when we are done (you need a machine for this).
Good work, Orange Shirt Guy!
Oh wow, never seen that before!! That's insane...
What was wrong with the cylinder? Leaking valve or piston problem?
How long of a process is it to swap a motor
DAMN!! For that much I can get me a hell of a ride lol That price is astranomical.
@rickybobby315 Yes we recover it with a machine then we recharge it after we are done.
Do you keep the engine oil inside the engine upon removal?
fantastic job!!!
How common is it to have to lift the body off to change the engine?
@mrjost55 We drain all the oil before removal because we cannot send the core back with oil in it.
Now that was a lot of work, great job though.....
@s0nnyburnett This is much more common than it used to be we do this often.
Nice looking, efficient, professional, and knowledgeable technicians. Great work guys. How long did this take overall? Is that the 4.6 or 5.4 V8?
Joel Perkosky that is the 4.6
You guys need to post some more videos!
i pissed off the boss today so now i have to change the engine in a navigator,, instead of a hot assistant i get to work with a grouchy old guy who insists it's faster to pull it out the top

@josephimports Thanks I would love to make more I just do not have the time lol
@s0nnyburnett Very common on Ford Trucks/SUVs we do it all the time.
hey just one concern, you should be using a engine stand not a engine hoist while the assembly period goes on. all in all very good video.
do you really have to remove the body or can it be done the old fashioned way?
collegebasketballfan no you don't have to remove the body but there was not much room to work because it was a v8 engine
How many times faster is the playback speed?
This is an engine replacement on a Lincoln Aviator.
@GrindTimeAuto Thank you
@modwickman Great question we use various methods on this particular job we had designated magnetic trays.
The engine techs at the Ford dealer where I work do this all the time.
At 2:20 that is enviable to be able to sit on the side and work on the engine. I'm 400lbs and a weekend mechanic. :-(
Safety glasses anyone? My only concern, otherwise the video is awesome.
I'm Impressed
So awesome.
Why don't you guys make any new videos?
This particular job was around $7000 including parts and labor.
@xeridea You get a 100k warranty with a new one.
Wow $7K? I assume warrantee job?
The addition of a torque wrench makes any girl at least 340% hotter...
lol I was sure the car fell off the lift when you lowered it O_O
u do not have to pull body of
can i just remove the hood and front clip then?
pull hood, radiator , intake it will come out u can pull the front clip
awesome thanks! I thought I read where front clip was part of body, but I don't know about that... Also what about transmission? just unbolt bell housing from block?

Ashley is beautiful
@coldcash12345 16 Lifts
This doesnt look like a DIY mechanic friendly car
Won't let me like video
This car p/s pump installation to hard. She is almost 40 minutes play to pump installation.
Great Video guys, but really taking the body from the frame to replace the engine? This is an awful design from Lincoln. No wonder I'd never buy any c**p from D3
You don't have to do that.
He never drove one then
i want to marry her
Lincoln Aviator is a HORRIBLE vehicle. Don't buy one
you guys lost me "Changing a engine out because cylinder 3 has low compression' that could have been fixed a lot cheaper than getting another engine. I just dont see the cause for a new engine in this case, maybe just wanted to show everyone how it could be done? i dunno? still lost
scooby3095 most likely the customer wanted to replace the engine
Thats alot of work how much money is all that with the engine?
