Amos Garrett's original solo on this tune with Better Days is a true masterpiece as is his solo on "Midnight at the Oasis". So nice to hear such a unique approach to the blues.

Not by anyone who's ever heard him play. If by underrated you mean 'not a household name', well that's got nothing to do with reality. Chet Atkins thought Amos' playing on Midnight At The Oasis was superb.

I own a book of quotes from musicians in which a young Maria Muldaur states, " I'll still want to be a singer long after I'm not so hot to look at anymore". I always liked her singing and her attitude. I saw her several times in the early 1980s and she was great, and saw her again in 1992 at the Edmonton Folk Festival.

Great to listen to Amos in vancouver ,Yale ,many times! great place to grow up to the blues, most have past on played there, so fortunate , miss those hapy days.
She sure sings with all she has as always, and Amos Garrett trears it up..

I consider that the recorded version of this tune with Geoff Muldaur on vocals and of course Amos on guitar, from the Paul Butterfield "Better Days" album is the greatest recorded guitar solo in history. Amos plays about the same solo, but softer and with less distortion. I once read that Stevie Wonder stated that the solo in Midnight at the oasis is the greatest solo of all time. Hard to argue with Stevie Wonder. Amos is the most under-rated player on this planet. Thanks you for posting.
I love the Better Days album, been listening to it for many years and Amos does some incredible solos (I'm very partial to his solo on Highway 28). I think Maria's vocal here puts her ex-husband's (whose vocals I love) vocal on this song, to shame. I mean this is a monumental version while Geoff's is very fine.

MUST be included in the top 20 ALL-Time Great guitar solos.... just a MASTERpiece of Economy , Taste, chops,
and Stunning Technique!! I think what he does on that
tune is grab some 3rds & then bends them up in perfect tune. Really Not EZ to do- Jerry Donahue from the Helcasters being one of the few other guitar players
I have heard to do that. He does do a bit of that here.

@taildragger51 eh, no...vice verca. amoss called gatton "thr humbler". but: In find Amos infinitely more melodic, and much more interesting (i'm a huge amos fan).regardless - they're both scary good
