It is one of the hottest peppers if you don't count the dozens of hybrids out there. Without hybrids it is the 6th hottest pepper. Even then, the group of peppers it belongs to also has two of the hottest conformed peppers in the world. It is probably also the highest you would go for cooking food so the chef is still correct.

Trevor's dish would have probably been exactly to my taste. I grow carolina reapers at home and enjoy food that is so hot it brings me to tears. But I get that it's not something that you'd use in a cooking competition.
