Zibo City, referred to as "Zi", is the former capital of Qi State, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Shandong Province, a type II large city, a regional central city in Shandong, a modern industrial city, and an important petrochemical base approved by the State Council. Zibo is located in East China, central Shandong Province, south of Linyi, north of Dongying, Binzhou, east of Weifang, west of Jinan, located in the Yellow River Delta efficient ecological economic zone, Shandong Peninsula blue economic zone two national strategic economic zones and Jinan metropolitan area intersection, is one of the core cities of the Shandong Peninsula urban agglomeration, the third tier city. As of 2023, the city has 5 districts, 3 counties and 3 functional areas, with a total area of 5,965 square kilometers and a built-up area of 341.9 square kilometers. At the end of 2022, Zibo had a permanent population of 4,705,900.
Linzi District of Zibo City is a national historical and cultural city, with a long history, Zibo's Linzi is the capital of the ancient Qi country, the birthplace of Qi culture, the origin of world football, known as the "Oriental Ancient Rome", "Zibo barbecue" has become a new business card of Zibo, and the Zibo barbecue festival is held around May Day every year. The place name Zibo was formed in the early 20s of the 20th century, and was originally the collective name of Zichuan and Boshan. Zibo is one of the civilized cities in China.
Zibo is a cluster city (cluster city) combining mountains and rivers, with Boshan National Scenic Area, a resource-based city and an old industrial base in China, one of the first batch of industrial transformation and upgrading demonstration zones in China, and a regional equity trading market in Shandong Province (Qilu Equity Trading Center). Zibo High-tech Industrial Development Zone is a national independent innovation demonstration zone on the Shandong Peninsula, and Zhangdian District of Zibo City is a national demonstration base for mass entrepreneurship and innovation. In June 2020, the Central Commission for the Rule of Law was selected as the first batch of national demonstration areas and projects for the construction of a rule of law government.
In 2022, Zibo's gross domestic product (GDP) reached 440.26 billion yuan, an increase of 4.7% over the previous year at constant prices.
