I love how everyone remembers the OG wimpy kid trilogy fondly. Those movies were great. The casting, how they transformed some characters. It was great to watch them as a kid.
In the 3rd book, Frank is a sugar addict, so imagine if that was in the movie.... Also, I'm surprised that the movie doesn't even acknowledge Frank's two brothers Joe and Gary, who are way more down-to-earth than Frank. That's kinda disappointing.
The movies are so much better than the books because all the characters experience so much character development, and there are so many heartwarming scenes like Greg and Roderick bonding in Roderick Rules, or Greg’s Dad forgiving Greg in Dog Days. But in the books all the characters are so deeply flawed it’s scary. Greg was an absolute sociopath, Manny was capable of murder, and Greg’s dad was always super depressed
I think this is how the book actually is, in the book we see first POV from Greg, and obviously him being a middle schooler, he’s gonna exaggerate things, the movies actually show what’s going on from a third POV, at least that’s how I cope lol
I'm fully convinced that this man was never actually hired for this role, and just kept wandering onto set and stepping over the actor they hired's cues but it was so good the producers left it in the film.

As someone with 2 brothers of ages similar to the movie, I’ve never seen a movie as relatable. After losing my parents it feels really empty to watch it now, but even at that, it will always be one of my favorite movies of all time.
