  • Many people take out large bits of wood and burn the rest of it when making hedges. In this video you will see how easily you can make use of the smaller wood and how in about a minute you can get 2 wheelbarrow loads of extra fuel for your fires. Thank you for watching and please subscribe for future videos of the smallholding.

Gladdens by heart to see folk "discovering" what I've been doing for years! A large log, timber or some wooden block at the bottom with save your chain and bar from eating the dirt.

Great solution this! Been saving branches of this size as I knew there was bound to be a more elegant way to cut it. An old mitre saw has been doing the heavy lifting up til now but it's not as fast as this.

I just saw (no pun intended) this today. I used steel posts as I had some spare (yep, need to keep the bar away).
I can't believe how fast, easy, and safe this method is!
I also can't believe I'd never thought of it before.
    Thank you so much!!
I'd had small branches lying around for years and I'd been putting off cutting them up one by one because it's tiring (sore back) dangerous, and much more likely that the saw tip will touch the ground and dull the chain.
    Thanks so much!

Yes most people burn this in a pile outside. I like mixing it in with my other wood it makes a great warm fire, thanks for sharing this is an efficient way to cut it to size

Thank you for this from Canada! Hurricane here with 57 tree's as damage result means
lots of branches to process and it felt daunting to deal with ... but your idea...plus my idea
of building securely the "jig" on the pallets, to be left in the woods close to where the tree's are, will be a building project for months to come as things get cleaned up here. There simply is no room to house all the cut up branches! You are very thoughtful to have taken the time to make this vid...thank you for your help! Considered doing this yesterday after felling a large ash, glad to see it works! Something I'd recommend is putting a thicker log at the bottom so you don't have to lean over quite so much and helps avoid blunting your chain in the dirt 😀

What a smart and innovative way of cutting Firewood. It would have been helpful to see how the jigsaw was made. Are the planks cemented into the ground?

I appreciate seeing this. Seems a bit more economical and ecological to burn a waste product. I burn this myself, as it burns hotter than split firewood, and I can find it anywhere for free!

Hi Steve, thank U 4 the video. Short'n 2 tha point. After seeing your good idea it made me think that you could build this "jig" on wheels and not need the posts in the ground. Just some 2x4's would do the trick. Some one else mentioned a log on the bottom which is not a bad idea but if you elevated the entire structure (rolling steps?) then you could have all the sticks land on a slop so they all fell onto a trailer or a bench so you don't have to bend over all the time? Just thinking out loud over here but yours is pretty good as it is. I'm thinking more about brush clearing and loading on a trailer and less about fire wood processing. Lots 2 think about. Thanks again...

What do you do for branches that are not straight. I cut piñon and haven’t figured out a great way to do it yet

Good idea what. About small branches from hedges that fill up the green bin. I put them in rubble bag and they dry nicely but hard to manage as all knotted together😢

You should add a large log or something at the bottom so that you don't hit the ground (like you did there :P) with your chainsaw :)
