Fan fact, one eyed zealot's name is Kaldalis. He is in a Blizzard short, talking with his leader Hierarch Artanis right before this cinematic about being an Akhundelar (Tip of the spear, a voluntary position whom are sent in the first wave of an attack, accepting high probability of death).
More fun facts, the cinematic is very accurate to the game play. For example, the zealot runs through two banelings before the third killing them both (correct for gameplay). And the hightemplar fusing into an archon is also accurate to game time of them merging.
@@Icetemplar The Archon Merge takes anywhere from 6 to 17 seconds, depending on what version or gamemode you're playing, which this is pretty faithfully portrayed here, but the Pylon warp-in time is 90 seconds in the animation, whereas it's 18 seconds in-game (or 25 in co-op).

If anything the Protoss are the anti-Tau, since they all have psychic powers, prefer close combat and are actually bigger, stronger and more long-lived than humans. I'd describe them as Eldar but with the physiology of the Kroot, and a lot of Jedi thrown in. One thing I really like about the Protoss is that despite being the enlightened space-elf type, they're not particularly haughty or arrogant. I mean, Aldaris and probably the Conclave did fit the stereotype, but pretty much all the hero Protoss really came to respect Jim Raynor and seemed to generally consider the Terrans a brave and resourceful species not to be underestimated. Heck, the story basically starts with Tassadar refusing to destroy Terran planets because it's wasn't their fault they had a Zerg problem. They sorta act more like Tolkien elves than Eldar, all wise and surprisingly humble for how old and powerful they are. It's nice to see.
Zerg are the overall baddies, but Terran continues to war amongst themselves and Protoss are trying to stay out the way but highly tech and telepathic based.
Idk... It's a bit more covoluted. Protoss have the superiority complex throughout the majority of the game. Terrans are just power hungry assholes like always and Zerg are technically bio weapon out of control.
I recommend watching the cutscenes from (1)Wings of Liberty to (2)Heart of the Swarm to (3)Legacy of the Void, it's really good if you do not want to take the time to play the game, story is amazing, at least in my opinion.
There are 2 Versions of the Cutscenes. One where you only see the Cutscenes in Order and one with a Narrator who explains what happend in the Missions. I recommend the second. More immersive and you get a better understanding of the Story.
No worries about heresy! In Starcraft, psionic powers are more a manifestation of the power of the mind, instead of a channeled use of energies of the warp, like in 40K, although Starcraft does have a few obscure things that are borderline cosmic horror, there aren't things such as demons and stuff
Fanboys always get such goosebumps, at the reveal of the humble Pylon. Its kind of cool, and kind of sad to hear a non-know-er say "so its just.. a crystal...? - and why are those guys over there cheering and hi5-ing.. over a crystal?" Because they know- the battle the battle was going poorly. Down to the last man, standing defiantly like a prequel to Captain America standing alone against the hordes... then the pylon revealed (in my head I hear him say "for we are never alone"), and just like that the battle shifted, and its about to get real. Sideways.
Tibs, the first campaign is free since like 2018 or whatever and it has 4 difficulty levels, first one being playable by absolutely anyone. Give it a shot. Its great
The whole package of Blizzard cinematics is just something else entirely. Its actually really sad that Blizzard's OG creators and producers left the company after their sale to the bigger publishers. 90s & early 2000s Blizzard was The powerhouse of gaming culture. When Blizzard stated they were halting the release of their game because it wasn't good enough to release to their fans, the fans believed and respected the statement. It was a glorious era of amazing product.
Ah, yes the trailer that primed all Toss players for deep dive into Protoss lore in campaign only for actual game to completely shat all over it and destroy it so it cannot be used going forward. The most ancient and advanced race in this universe has according to the story willingly gotten rid of it´s culture and ancestral memories. Khala, that even Dark Templar individualists could have been a part of if they so chose and was always the greatest strength of the Protoss became a derided weakness. Their formerly telepathic society has splintered and the only major unified faction is a militant cult that is hostile even to other Protoss. According to the unit descriptions they were already unable to create their most advanced tech anymore as they no longer understood it after their isolationist period, their colonies are cut off from each other and were never a major population centers so they are unlikely to survive the next age. Thanks Blizzard for the love you have shown our faction after riding the Zerg and Kerrigan apologist hype train, so glad we supported you for all these years. Never again.
There are a lot more cinematics of this quality in Starcraft II to watch for you. If you don't wanna do a playthrough yourself, you can watch game movies from each of the three games on youtube. Would be a joy to see you react to it.
epic 200 gateway proxy for uninitiated : protoss can instead of building it at the gateway (infantry building) warp in single unit per gateway anywhere in pylon range, more gateways - more warp ins. Therefore it was somewhat cheesy to build many gateways and sneak in a pylon somewhere close to enemy base and spawn army there.
The Protoss are best described as high tech but also hyper-religious. Almost a contradiction. In gameplay, they have the fewest numbers being the most powerful of the races. 4 zerglings = 2 terran marines = 1 protoss zealot.
Oh, and if youd like something more character and lore focused for the Protoss, definitely check out "Reclamation". That's one of mt favorites! Its less cinematic and actiony, but its very good.
I think you'd love watching the Total War Warhammer 1,2 and 3 trailers and cinematics. Its in their Fantasy universe but they are really well done. Also some of the in game cinematics and movies from Battlefleet Gothic 1 and 2 if you want to stick with ones from 40K as they are very very well done. Especially the intro movie to 2 as they show the iconic Fall of Cadia and the beginning of the 13th Black Crusade.
I think that SC2 cinematics desefve more than watching just the trailer. The games are littered with high quality cinematics, especially the third one, which has CGI cinematics in game. For example the "alone" cinematic from lotv is as good as the trailer.
Regarding the Queen of blades Lore. Her becoming a Zerg is in wings of liberty & the best Story is in Heart of the swarm Most are in-game cinematics though, so U might miss some if going only for all cinematics 😊
3:30 There isn't a third StarCraft game. There was going to be a spinoff called StarCraft Ghost, but that was cancelled. StarCraft 1 has an expansion called Brood War, though, and StarCraft 2 has the Nova Covert Ops mission pack. Also, I mentioned this in the comments of another video, but SC2's story has more spectacle than substance. GREAT cinematics, but the characters are often flat, inconsistent, or just kinda lame. You will have to pick and choose specific things about the story, like specific characters or concepts, to really focus in on because the story as a whole just isn't it.

Unfortunately, most Protoss are selfrighteous pricks who bore me to death - except for a dude called Alarak. He's hilarious :D. Protoss aren't really "good". They are about honour and glory in battle and all that nonsense, and some of them have a genuine interest in "saving the universe", but overall, culturally they are a tightly hierarchic, xenophobic bunch with a superiority complex (probably justified, since their tech is bonkers), who suffer probably more from infighting and having a stick up their arse, than they do from anything else. Strictly speaking, not even the Zerg are "the baddies". There are other forces at work, including a BBEG - which is unfortunate, because that whole story arc turned, what started as a pretty cool, morally grey space-western-opera thing, into your typical "Oh no! the Universe is in peril!" good vs. evil trope. Ah well. Still an amazing series of games. Highly recommended.
Essentially starcraft originally was supposed to be a wh40k game but for some reason it didn't happen so the space marines became the terrans, the tyranids became the zerg and the eldari(space elves) became the protoss.
