  • This is the 5th of the series from Kidsgrove, In this Video we talk about the Rise and Fall of our Local Public houses in and around Kidsgrove PART TWO . A lot of research has been done to provide you the best information on the history of our area.
    As promised from last weeks video we visit the spooky cellar of the canal tavern.

    The Harecastle Hotel as it was is a lot different to the place I was raised in. Good to see at least the ground floor stairs and windows are the same, door to the lounge bar with the serving hatch is the original from a long time ago. Cellars no different apart from the sump pump appears to have gone and the barrel room moved into the drop room, and yes that is the original handrail in the cellar. Lots of changes to the main building. Can't believe the attic has been converted into flats. The floors were rotten and window frames similar was no doubt the spookiest part of the pub. The dog wouldn't go up into the attic was scared shitless!! Lots of memories of people sadly now long since gone and some amazing times. Not been in there since the day my Dad left it in 1989.
