If you want the layer to be the same yarn, instead of tying it off you can chain one, turn the whole piece and work "backwards"! Same number of stitches, chain one, turn, and crochet across until you have all the rows you need. I'm not sure how helpful this was, but there's a lot of really good tutorials on TH-cam! ♡
