First person i see that stay real even with having a birkin. I see many people saying this is the best bag etc etc. I don't own one but i can see that quality etc is good but there are out there many cheaper bags that are more versatil. The look of the birkin tho is ON POINT ! Also this increase price is super annoying LV also do it , i don't mind if its few euros but for exemple i bought pochette metis for 1650 and now its +100 € ... like why ?? its already expensive Edit : What i mean = its sad that some people look down on other brands because it's Hermers.

I’m a handbag lover and owning them doesn’t make me feel better then anyone else. I just love the hand bags. I think most handbag lovers love them and think nothing else. BTW I would use my baby pink Birkin 25 for a wedding - it is very mini on me though since I am 1.74 m tall .. I find it to be an occasion and everyday bag but any bigger size I would not use for occasions. I think as a mini on taller people it works .. but I respect your opinion no offence taken at all

I agree that there is a clear quality difference between the two, which is still reflected in the price differences. At the end of the day, the styles serve different purposes. Hermes has dressier bags that are not as popular. Chanel’s casual bags are often more than Hermes, but Hermes is better quality (like Chanel’s Deauville tote vs Hermès Garden Party).

I thought I am the only person that feels people bringing a birkin to a wedding is just to brag. Its just not attire appropriate. A chanel classic flap or a clutch will be more suitable.
Very genuine video. I am almost 50 years old and own quite a bit of Chanel and Hermès. Hermès isn’t trying to play a game. They view their B and K as prizes for those who are loyal to the brand. It takes about 5 working days (8 hours per day) for 1 artisan to make 1 bag (B or K). It is impossible for them to sell a bag to every customer that wants one if they want to maintain the highest level of quality. Additionally, it takes years for an artisan at Hermès to earn the job of crafting a B or K. They simply don’t have the qualified manpower to make enough bags. Hence, I don’t view it as a game. They want to reward loyal customers with bags that are produced in such small quantities. Chanel bags are machine made and as such they can mass produce to sell to anyone who wants to buy one. I totally agree with you that Chanel starts reducing black color from their classic collection to compete with Hermès. I kinda noticed that they’re producing more colored bags than Black ones on the market now.
My dream bad is a birkin! It is extremely luxurious and not many people have it yet the quality is really really good and a classic you can ALWAYS wear and even give your kids after you die! It‘s such an amazing bag😍❤️

I hope one day to buy a Birkin but only if I can get it for retail or close to retail price. I definitely won't be spending money in Hermes on items I don't want or need in the hope I might get an offer or pay double to a reseller. I wish Chanel’s hardware is gold-plated! Luckily, my medium classic flap in black lambskin purchased last year ordered from Chanel New York arrived perfect. The price hurts.
I totally agree about the casualness of Birkins and Kellys. The versatility and elegance of a classic flap has never been replicated by any other brand in my opinion. I've had some major issues with Chanel quality recently and I love all my H bags but the two brands have completely different aesthetics. People seem to get real new when they get a Birkin and forget that it can be difficult for most people to get the most sought after Hermes bags and also H bags are just not everyone's cup of tea!

I feel like the Chanel price increases are the best best reason to purchase Hermes (for quality reasons). I personally never cared too much for Chanel bags (way too pretty for my style), I still wouldn’t mind a small wallet from them, just from a collectors perspective & I’d definitely purchase a Chanel WOC if it was possible to reconcile their prices with their quality, but I personally just can’t, so Hermes it is for me. Having said that, I completely agree with the opening statement, I wouldn’t buy either unless you really loved them, neither of them are actually worth the price unless you really love them. Owning either does not make you better than anyone else.
I have a jumbo, K25 and B25; agree with you Hermes is more valued because of consistent quality, simplicity and exclusivity. The value of being able to spa your bag is also a big deal. I really have 3 Chanel bags and I am happy. The real comparison should be between a CF and Constance. 😉

Totally agree re Kelly/Birkin being casual. You need a Kelly 20 if you want a Kelly to be an evening bag, and even then it’s still casual compared to the Chanel Classic Flap.
Great video. I think we have to remember though that in terms of quality, Hermes is very different from Chanel in that it is still hand-crafted with only so many artisans who are actually trained in the craftsmanship, it also takes years for them to be fully trained, and it takes 24-48 hours just to make 1 bag. I believe this is what you were trying to say :) haha. Hermes bags also come in many more different types of leathers and leather textures (i.e. evercolor, togo, epsom, swift, novillo, etc.). There is therefore also a reason the Hermes bags are very limited in supply/stock and that they cannot just offer supply to just any customer that walks in. In terms of quality and "worth" I'm not sure these 2 bags can be compared.
You are absolutely right. The Birkin bags are more like everyday work bags to me. Glad the quality justifies the price but buying a bag that is nearly as much as my car a BMW, is not what I think I can do. I don’t really like them to that extent

Hi Lou! I have held both a birkin and chanel classic flap and agree with you, neither bag is really worth the price haha! However, I would definately buy a birkin or kelly over chanel classic flap. 6 months ago i was on the hunt for a chanel classic flap and everyone i held in the boutique had a fault so i could not justify spending £5,500 and ended up not buying the bag. I hope chanel improve their quality control for sure and until then i cannot justify buying into that crazy price if the bag won't last me many many years!!
I LOVE CHANEL. But I love to make things and would rather buy a sewing machine and fabric and leather, or classes before I buy an actual Chanel bag.........so I made my own Chanel bag. I know it’s not good but I’m not selling them I just made my own as an experiment to test out my handbag making abilities (some of the bags, mainly the fabric/tweed ones look so SIMPLE. So I made my own and it looks and feels super similar.) and I’m perfectly okay using it once in a while and people knowing it’s fake because I don’t think affluence necessarily means class and style. Until I have the money to buy the bag twice and not feel like my wallet is crying then I’ll buy a bag or will I be swayed to buy a bag. you are on point but I have to say that here in USA a Jumbo is $7400 and a Hermes is $10-$11,000 or more. Just in a basic is $3000 more which you could do a lot with. And I am as obsessed and collector of bags, but is the truth. I think Birking looks as a briefcase/professional look and probably Kelly is more fun/outing special day kind of bag, more so if in a fun color. Definitely not the cool night out kind of bag. Im hoping Im getting a Kelly sometime this year, as I have the SA relationship going. I feel a good collection has to have a bag of this luxury house. But the fun and excitement comes with the hunt for those special Chanel pieces... Every influencer I follow has gotten a Hermes this year, it has gained its popularity. They are still a business after all.

They are beautiful and seems functional but omg Chanel needs to improve their quality control. 😰 I was ready to buy the black medium classic flap a couple of weeks ago, but immediately noticed the one that the SA showed me had such sloppy stitching. I asked to see other and after looking at 6, yes 6😭, different black medium classic flaps in 3 different stores I realized they were honestly a mess. I don’t think I was being too picky either. They were such glaring obvious defects that all the SAs that helped me agreed they looked off 😢🤦🏻♀️
Love your videos so much, Lou. Hermès all the way! Your Birkin is stunning! The quality and artisan work of Hermès is hors concours! Every bag has been lovingly and meticulously hand crafted. I've heard that Chanel bags are mostly machine made these days. Not sure if this is true but only one of the four Chanel lambskin classic flaps that I've bought in the last couple of years seems up to standard for such a prestigious house. I've already sold one due to quality issues and am thinking of selling another as it just looks CHEAP. The lambskin is like rubber - awful! Besides Hermès, I've found some other brands who seem truly dedicated to the artisanal process, focussing on quality and uniqueness of their pieces. Fendi, Dior and Delvaux have also impressed me when it comes to quality and service. While the classic flap can be worn for many occasions and is obviously a great design, rich in history, I'm increasingly disenchanted by Chanel bags which are starting to feel cheap and tacky. I think Chanels quality has definitely decreased over the years with the main thing being, not doing the 24 carat gold anymore. I would always tell people to buy Chanel pre loved as it has the same wear which will be on their new bag in a few months but it has the 24 carat gold on it too! Chanels price increases has personally made me feel like I’d rather save a little more and get something from Hermes
Birken was designed as a casual bag that fits for daily use ans traveling, according to the story. Now women wear if for fancy dinners, but not special occasions, for that, Hermès Constance is better or the Chanel classic flap medium or small.

Dear Dear Je suis Lou, I also have the same thought with you about the Birkin too. I also think that the Birkin is too casual for special events and is best to be worn in casual daily activities. I love to carry a small classic flap or Dior mini to special night events because they look more put together and classy in my opinion. I'm so glad I came across this video ❤

I totally agree about the casualness of Birkins and Kellys. The versatility and elegance of a classic flap has never been replicated by any other brand in my opinion. I've had some major issues with Chanel quality recently and I love all my H bags but the two brands have completely different aesthetics. People seem to get real new when they get a Birkin and forget that it can be difficult for most people to get the most sought after Hermes bags and also H bags are just not everyone's cup of tea!
I totally agree with you on the versatility of the Chanel bag and how casual it is for Hermès. I think the Hermès is too ‘show off’ when use for wedding and black tie event 😊
May I say that I enjoy simplicity & sincerity about bags. Personally, I like bags but not for status show off.

I feel like the Chanel price increases are the best best reason to purchase Hermes (for quality reasons). I personally never cared too much for Chanel bags (way too pretty for my style), I still wouldn’t mind a small wallet from them, just from a collectors perspective & I’d definitely purchase a Chanel WOC if it was possible to reconcile their prices with their quality, but I personally just can’t, so Hermes it is for me. Having said that, I completely agree with the opening statement, I wouldn’t buy either unless you really loved them, neither of them are actually worth the price unless you really love them. Owning either does not make you better than anyone else.

I have a jumbo, K25 and B25; agree with you Hermes is more valued because of consistent quality, simplicity and exclusivity. The value of being able to spa your bag is also a big deal. I really have 3 Chanel bags and I am happy. The real comparison should be between a CF and Constance. 😉

Totally agree re Kelly/Birkin being casual. You need a Kelly 20 if you want a Kelly to be an evening bag, and even then it’s still casual compared to the Chanel Classic Flap.

Great video. I think we have to remember though that in terms of quality, Hermes is very different from Chanel in that it is still hand-crafted with only so many artisans who are actually trained in the craftsmanship, it also takes years for them to be fully trained, and it takes 24-48 hours just to make 1 bag. I believe this is what you were trying to say :) haha. Hermes bags also come in many more different types of leathers and leather textures (i.e. evercolor, togo, epsom, swift, novillo, etc.). There is therefore also a reason the Hermes bags are very limited in supply/stock and that they cannot just offer supply to just any customer that walks in. In terms of quality and "worth" I'm not sure these 2 bags can be compared.
I will go with the Birkin 😍. Since your unboxing , I have changed my mind. I love the style and size. It goes more with my style.
You are absolutely right. The Birkin bags are more like everyday work bags to me. Glad the quality justifies the price but buying a bag that is nearly as much as my car a BMW, is not what I think I can do. I don’t really like them to that extent

Hi Lou! I have held both a birkin and chanel classic flap and agree with you, neither bag is really worth the price haha! However, I would definately buy a birkin or kelly over chanel classic flap. 6 months ago i was on the hunt for a chanel classic flap and everyone i held in the boutique had a fault so i could not justify spending £5,500 and ended up not buying the bag. I hope chanel improve their quality control for sure and until then i cannot justify buying into that crazy price if the bag won't last me many many years!!
I LOVE CHANEL. But I love to make things and would rather buy a sewing machine and fabric and leather, or classes before I buy an actual Chanel bag.........so I made my own Chanel bag. I know it’s not good but I’m not selling them I just made my own as an experiment to test out my handbag making abilities (some of the bags, mainly the fabric/tweed ones look so SIMPLE. So I made my own and it looks and feels super similar.) and I’m perfectly okay using it once in a while and people knowing it’s fake because I don’t think affluence necessarily means class and style.
Until I have the money to buy the bag twice and not feel like my wallet is crying then I’ll buy a bag or will I be swayed to buy a bag. Until then it’s not something I feel I need to feel validated by myself or other around me.

you are on point but I have to say that here in USA a Jumbo is $7400 and a Hermes is $10-$11,000 or more. Just in a basic is $3000 more which you could do a lot with. And I am as obsessed and collector of bags, but is the truth. I think Birking looks as a briefcase/professional look and probably Kelly is more fun/outing special day kind of bag, more so if in a fun color. Definitely not the cool night out kind of bag. Im hoping Im getting a Kelly sometime this year, as I have the SA relationship going. I feel a good collection has to have a bag of this luxury house. But the fun and excitement comes with the hunt for those special Chanel pieces... Every influencer I follow has gotten a Hermes this year, it has gained its popularity. They are still a business after all.

I completely agree with you about the classic flap! They are beautiful and seems functional but omg Chanel needs to improve their quality control. 😰 I was ready to buy the black medium classic flap a couple of weeks ago, but immediately noticed the one that the SA showed me had such sloppy stitching. I asked to see other and after looking at 6, yes 6😭, different black medium classic flaps in 3 different stores I realized they were honestly a mess. I don’t think I was being too picky either. They were such glaring obvious defects that all the SAs that helped me agreed they looked off 😢🤦🏻♀️

Love your videos so much, Lou. Hermès all the way! Your Birkin is stunning! The quality and artisan work of Hermès is hors concours! Every bag has been lovingly and meticulously hand crafted. I've heard that Chanel bags are mostly machine made these days. Not sure if this is true but only one of the four Chanel lambskin classic flaps that I've bought in the last couple of years seems up to standard for such a prestigious house. I've already sold one due to quality issues and am thinking of selling another as it just looks CHEAP. The lambskin is like rubber - awful! Besides Hermès, I've found some other brands who seem truly dedicated to the artisanal process, focussing on quality and uniqueness of their pieces. Fendi, Dior and Delvaux have also impressed me when it comes to quality and service. While the classic flap can be worn for many occasions and is obviously a great design, rich in history, I'm increasingly disenchanted by Chanel bags which are starting to feel cheap and tacky. I think Chanels quality has definitely decreased over the years with the main thing being, not doing the 24 carat gold anymore. I would always tell people to buy Chanel pre loved as it has the same wear which will be on their new bag in a few months but it has the 24 carat gold on it too! Chanels price increases has personally made me feel like I’d rather save a little more and get something from Hermes

Birken was designed as a casual bag that fits for daily use ans traveling, according to the story. Now women wear if for fancy dinners, but not special occasions, for that, Hermès Constance is better or the Chanel classic flap medium or small.
