"Rota" on Slavic tin whistle (svirel) in C and D

  • Rota is a Polish, patriotic song written in 1908 by activist for Polish independence, poet Maria Konopnicka as a protest against German Empire's policies of forced Germanization of Poles. The music was composed two years later by Feliks Nowowiejski.
    The svirel is a Slavic flute. The 6-holes model is very similar to the Irish tin whistle (same scale, same fingering) with the obvious difference that it is not made of tin.
    The models shown on this video are in "C" (first) and "D" (second). Both flutes are made by Олег Дробинский.
