You compared 2023 release day prices with 2024 presale. If you compare 2023 presale to 2024 presale the price increase is even worse. 2023 presales on Topps website were $125 for hobby and $300 for jumbo. Just an insane markup.
Not too excited, but will eventually try a blaster. In the meantime, I preordered 2 2024 Donruss Baseball Hobby boxes... I had a shit-ton of fun ripping 2023.
Crazy you say this release has no real headliners. 2024 chrome is filled with it. The biggest names in the hobby from the last 1.5-2 years are in this release. It has a good top 10 plus plenty of other guys that have hobby potential. The hobby has been crazy for Elly, Jackson holiday, Caminaro, Chourio and Yamamoto just to name a few. In reality this is prob the best chrome release in the past few years if not ever. Yes elly and the Jackson’s haven’t been crushing it but when this product was getting made, they were all at the top of the hobby. Even it’s slow starts. Not many ppl are moving on and stopped believing in the top rookies etc. Also. Just a side note/tip. Blasters is the best value for MVP buybacks. Not even close. I can go into this further if you’d like (on a serious note)
Let's all remember that the MVP Buyback was created as a marketing gimmick to save Topps Chrome 2022 after they forgot to put in the Rookie Shortprints - FastForward to 2024 and the MVP Buyback redemption money is now baked into the initial box cost. MVP buyback is also just credit towards your next degen rip from your LCS. So of course I pre-ordered several cases...not!!!
Probably spent 1.5-2k on chrome last year and did ok getting it all on pre-order or via fanatics discounted gift cards. I'm out this year unless it comes waaay down.
Thanks for the video. I agree with the wait-and-see attitude. I was excited about Chrome, but at that price point, it is hard to justify. Even blasters at $40, is hard to do.
I bought a jumbo case last year for 2600 and did very well with it. Figured i would rinse repeat, but the increase price has me rethinking my strategy. Alot of high ceiling but low floor prospects. I agree that compared to the NFL/NBA panni equivalent, it's a steal 😂
Last year I pre ordered a case of jumbo and a case of hobby plus bought many other boxes at my lcs. This year all that money will go towards buying singles. I hate how greedy topps has become
Prices increase to deter demand. We don't have the manufacturing capabilities in this country. The little manufacturing we do have is predominantly military industrial complex. It's why we have inflation in a country that can print all the money it wants. Prices are there to keep people from consuming more than can be made for all products. Taxes are high so you think you are paying for something
…… ITS FANTASTICS, not Topps ANYMORE. Fanactics is just using their “name” while destroying the card market ✅ And I notice ole PSA has increased submissions cost again 🤔. No biggie, right
I didn’t purchase any Topps Chrome hobby/jumbo. I may purchase some blasters, but they’ll probably be $35+. I guess my next purchase might be Bowman Chrome, but based off of Topps Chrome pricing, I’m sure I want be purchasing any of that either. Topps/Panini is almost forcing me out of buying/collecting any BB, BBK or FB.
First world problems gotta love the Stars and Stripes! Pulled 1/5 Gunnar red auto outta last years jumbo that was sent to me in error from originally ordered Chrome Update, now that set was trash! Think the First patches ended up in Asia or India…..America!
I agree it's a great prospect checklist but I don't have the warm and fuzzies about a single one of them. Topps Chrome NBA/NFL first set will be pumped past the moon.
That’s what it’s gonna happen every year. The prices are going to go up specially, now that Panini has lost the license to almost everything and if you’re going to the national wait to buy your box to get a silver pack if you can.
I don't know if this product is missing Skenes because they're intentionally saving him for Update. My guess is if they could put Skenes in this they would have. With Skenes making his MLB debut on May 11th, I don't think it's physically possible for Topps to get him into this set in time for release. Sometimes when Topps is up against a deadline like this they will sneak a hot rookie in as an SP or SSP, since it's much easier for them to add an SP or an SSP late in the production run than in the base set. So maybe we'll see Skenes as a surprise SP in this set. I don't think that will happen, but it's a possibility. This happened with Vlad's no number SP card in 2019 Topps Series 2. A more recent comparison: Jackson Holliday made his debut on April 10th, a month before Skenes' debut, and Topps inserted him as an SP in Series 2 this year. There may not have been enough time for Topps to include Holliday in the Series 2 base set.
Baseball cards are easy to buy but they are hard to sell for a profit. I will not be purchasing sports cards this year, the market is flooded with greed.
Topps has always been garbage. People open it for nostalgia and try to convince themselves that it’s still great. You buy a blaster for $25 and get $2 back if you are lucky, $50+ mega and get $4-$5 back in value. ROI is way worse than most panini product and don’t expect it to get better. Prices and print runs are only going to go up with fanatics. To the 🌙!!!
Not sure what planet you live on thinking a ROI is better with a $900 Panini product that doesn’t have rights to all the rookie autos. But everything else seems to check out.
My friend I have to disagree in three hobby boxes of topps series two I got an 3/5 auto a /99 auto and a gold mirror ssp sold two of the three already because I wanted different bad rookies and made money still have good cards.
When you said “Topps has always been garbage” you lost me very quickly. That’s something I would read on the Blowout forums which is the dark web of the hobby.
You’re crazy, least with Topps, especially MLB there are more than 4 players worth pulling. I’ve opened so many NBA & NFL optic & Prizm and got basically nothing, no autos no numbered. Definitely not the same with Topps, especially platinum.
@@milehighty32 I’m guessing I’m not a baller like you guys that’s why I was talking retail. I can’t, or at least won’t drop $500+ on a box but from what Ive seen from TH-camr you’d have to buy 4-5 topps hobby boxes to even get something of value back. So that’s basically as much or more 🤷🏻♂️.
The reality is, these should be $50. It’s absolute trash (from a value perspective). The odds of you hitting something “big” is similar to that of winning the lottery. TH-camrs will rip entire cases and get back maybe 100-200 in value, and that’s only if you’re nickel and diming your way through.
They print more than enough so I don’t see the point in preordering, but I’ll buy some, mainly will just buy singles.
Winn for the Cardinals
Can't wait (Bart Scott voice)
Flagship Update w/Jared Jones & Skenes will be 🔥
Great channel, new sub here

Im only interested in Jackson Merrill so ill just buy cheap singles in November when everything is 50% cheaper
Fully depends on how much Topps/Fanatics pays social media influencers to pump the product or loads early boxes with more hits
The price point is high for a rookie crop that’s not playing great.
Everyone was hyped on Wander, he didn’t pan out.
Last year class was amazing

2024 is the year of wait and see on all Topps products for me. Its getting tough to justify ripping hobby products for any of their releases.
It's wait and see for everything. Ppl on Blowout Forums say that a Wemby base is 1 per 14 blasters in NBA Optic and a case hit in NBA Prizm
I bought a jumbo case last year for 2600 and did very well with it. Figured i would rinse repeat, but the increase price has me rethinking my strategy. Alot of high ceiling but low floor prospects. I agree that compared to the NFL/NBA panni equivalent, it's a steal 😂
it’s not gonna stop until yall wake up and stop buying boxes
Hard pass.
I will wait and see. Whatever gives me the most for my $$ with getting silver packs at the national is what I'll be going for.
They also dropped the # of packs per box in the blasters. 2024 has 7 packs vs the 8 packs from 2023.
This will be the first year I haven't bought a case. I didn't like the increase for the players
Pre order price was $125 and $300 last year. It’s funny, I literally made this exact same video last night!
...in other news, I bought a couple unopened boxes of 1987 Topps Rack Packs for under $50 w/Shipping. Hella cheaper and as fun to rip as this stuff
Last year I pre ordered a case of jumbo and a case of hobby plus bought many other boxes at my lcs. This year all that money will go towards buying singles. I hate how greedy topps has become
I picked up 2 hobbies and 2 jumbos. I saved up $1500 to purchase chrome. Wish I could have gotten more for my money, but it is what it is.
Its all sold out now

I usually buy 1 hobby box at release but did not this year. Really considering abandoning chrome completely this year.
Increased price and checklist = no thank you. Would have bought a case at 145-150 per.
We will also have other releases at the National time...the Fanatics Football product will be out and maybe basketball. Too much too fast
…… ITS FANTASTICS, not Topps ANYMORE. Fanactics is just using their “name” while destroying the card market ✅
And I notice ole PSA has increased submissions cost again 🤔. No biggie, right
I had to look up Papierski Auto...I didnt realize it was a player. I thought it was some oddly named parallel I hadn't ever heard of 🤣
I didn’t purchase any Topps Chrome hobby/jumbo. I may purchase some blasters, but they’ll probably be $35+. I'm waiting for Series 2 prices to drop. Hopefully Chrome release will aid it
Sell me your Colt Keith's!
I agree it's a great prospect checklist but I don't have the warm and fuzzies about a single one of them. Topps Chrome NBA/NFL first set will be pumped past the moon.
Why is 2023 chrome update so cheap compared to 2023 chrome ?
No last minute gimmick, no surprise chase card or cards is gonna make people happy about spending more money with watered down mvp buyback as well
I’ll buy some blasters for the MVP chase, as long as they aren’t proportionally higher as well. These hobby boxes are ridiculous though.
That’s what it’s gonna happen every year. The prices are going to go up specially, now that Panini has lost the license to almost everything and if you’re going to the national wait to buy your box to get a silver pack if you can.

last years Chrome blasters sat forever at the local WalMarts
Lot of these guys will be better next year churio has been playing better he’s only 20 lot of these guys will get way better
Nope i will just buy singles
It’s just too expensive for me. My plan is to buy the singles I want and rip Marvel and Star Wars.
Jackson Holiday superfractor bounty incoming
Baseball cards are easy to buy but they are hard to sell for a profit. I will not be purchasing sports cards this year, the market is flooded with greed.
Probably not sold out because they printed billions.
I won't be buying any at those prices.
Fanatics being greedy, ruining another product
What’s Up Neo
But are there tacofractors?😂
