Personally believe, that if both Jesse and Howard, were to stay in the band at the same time, they would become far greater than they are now, they're amazingly harmonized.
I know Howard isn't coming back, but I'd love to see him get together with the guys to do a studio re-recording of this song (and maybe a few others from AOJB) with both Jesse and Howard doing the vocals. That would be a killer way to thank fans of both eras for their support.
The crowd witnessed something truly amazing that night, two different singers with two different styles performing one song on the same stage. it's great
Not to be a cunt, but it's really not that uncommon for one band to have two (or sometimes even more) vocalists with very different styles. Symphonic metal has been doing it since the early 90s. But I will say that what makes this unique is that these are successors. 2 singers of the same band from different eras coming together to celebrate their legacy. That's just fucking awesome.
Man KSE singers have such a cool story...both leaving the band at seperate times to focus on their health but coming back and remaining cool with the band..then this and now even havign a full song together... the whole band must be some chill dudes cause it is soo uncommon for this to happen

WOW Jesse has improved his cleans so much since this. If they ever did this again, it would be so cool to see them do End of Heartache. Now that Jesse has his melodic cleans down, I've seen him do a few amazing performances of the Howard classic.
When you see who's lurking in the shadows on 1:45, you know everybody's gonna get their $ worth. A classic Killswitch moment. Howard harmonizing and Jesse brutalizing. That bro hug at the end shows the comradery and respect.Great video!
If I ever see Killswitch Engage live I want to see Howard run out on stage and start playing with them, for at least one song. Whoever was at this show are lucky as fuck.
They hug eachother the way MMA fighters do at the end of the match, after spending the last fifteen minutes trying their goddam hardest to beat the shit out of each other.
Fuck the 'Feud" between these two. Theyre hands down my favorite vocalists and this performance shows why. NO planning or anything this shit happened and they killed it
In a perfect world........... Howard with KSE Jesse with TOG Even though Jesse has perfected his screams, Howard does what Jesse does 10X LESS effort!!!! The reason why Jesse sounds so good on AOJB is because the emotion he had was REAL!!! That was a rough patch for him. The vocal training he got just helped him mimic those emotions without wrecking his vocal cords. KSE is really lucky to have had 2 of the best singers in metal ever!!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Não tem pq discutir quem é melhor, tanto Jesse quanto Howard são vocalistas extremamente fodas e quem sai ganhando somos nós fans do KsE por poder escuta-los!
I've been a KSE fan for years now and I still don't understand why people have the argument "who's the better singer" and all that shit because at the end of the day they are both KSE legends and there is nothing between them. Howard and Jessie are fantastic. KSE for life!
Wow that was pretty cool. It'd be great if they could do this again. Devil You Know was posting on their facebook they wanted to tour with KSE. It'd be great to hear Jesse and Howard on stage singing Rose of Sharyn or This is Absolution... something iconic. Hopefully on a big stage like download or something. Also Howard looks and sounds the same as he did hear, may sound a bit better now. Hopefully in the future we can see these the two bands together.
This would be the ultimate line up and I would seriously love it to happen one day at least before the band call it quits and for god sake shut the f**k on who is better oh Jesse is better oh Howard is better you sound like a bunch of school girls both singers have brought unique gifts to the band and will always be remembered for what they have done/did they both made kse what is it today and I for one can they are both amazing Howard will be missed but it's great to see Jesse back and I would love for Howard to join back up with Jesse aswell cause it would blow our minds away you got a glimpse of that here
Driving to the airport at 4:42a and had the thought “I wonder if Howard and Jesse ever sang together?” Here I am in awe from this performance and having just realized I forgot my toiletries bag.
I'm not sure the crowd realised they were witnessing possibly the most epic performance by just about any band in the history of music... The most amazing harmony between Jesse and Howard's differing styles. Still gives me goosebumps. Yes KsE. Just yes.
I like jesse voice better for this song. His screams are sick and raw I love it. It seems he puts alot more passion and effort into his singing which I like.. Howard it just comes natural. But KSE still rocks no matter what.
Jesse puts a lot of effort into his singing because he can't sing for shit. He just stands there, forcing his voice and damaging his vocal cords. Howard though, it comes naturally, like you say. And the true KSE's essence comes from Howard's voice.
Gazaraki Valek There were many times when Howard was off key or sounded like he had been straining his singing voice by the screams. Howard wasn't, and isn't perfect; neither is Jesse. They're two different vocalists, I personally prefer Jesse, but both are great with this band. Bashing Jesse isn't going to bring Howard back.
I don't know why ppl keep trying to say Jesse vocals are on par with Howard's vocals or trying to make excuses saying at times Howard's voice sounds bad just as much as Jesse's voice at times, bullll shit. Howard vocals blows jesses voice out the water in every way Jesse is a better screamer but Howard is over all better for the fact he can scream but his vocals come second to none. Anyone saying it's even on the vocals between to two needs to clean their ears and learn a thing or two about vocal skills. For example this Jacob guy, it's a clear fact that you are based towards jesse cause every time someone points out that Howard's vocal skills are better you're quick to throw out lame excuses of how they both are even when fact I can pull off the live videos where Howard outdid Jesse in his own songs and even sound better than Jesse in his own album let alone Howard's own songs.
Jesse has a larger range, he can actually distort his clean voice, he can make melodies that are more diverse than the same-old, same-old you constantly heard in KSE's choruses back when Howard was in the band, etc. To rephrase that, Jesse has a larger range, a much more diverse voice, proper vocal distortion, and his tone is a lot more solid than Howard's was live in many ways. I love Howard's voice and the work he did with KSE, but come on. To say he's so much better than Jesse is not fact, but mere opinion at this point. Why? Because from a technicality standpoint, Jesse has a much better voice.
+tomismop Jesse does better screams where Howard does amazing cleans. I think they should just do what Sikth do and mix it up entirely since they're both absolutely amazing.
Both are amazing. In this they have so much respect for each other, they look happy, and you KNOW they enjoy doing this! I always get the biggest smile on my face when I watch this! FUCKING EPIC! God bless these two vocalists :'D
Favourite performance of this song! There are so many nuances. How Jesse mutes his mic for a sec in the chorus, how he does that melisma on "fall"-word during first chorus. And you see how he's giving himself totally to the moment. I don't know what are the things that are not perfect here. Because every imperfect bit of it just makes it better and more stunning. That just means a lot to me)
If you're a vocalist (meaning screamer) you would know that Jesse learned how to do false chord screaming when he did Time Of Grace with Adam. How do you think he sounds so different on the new KSE record compared to how he sounds on this performance and on the old records? Plus if you have gone to see them recently, he sounds fucking point on even with the stuff Howard did. Just saying because Jesse still gets alot of hate when he himself is such a great vocalist, at least as of recent
Are you kidding me he sucked on Howard's songs so stop there. However he's gotten a lot better and he can sing his ass off but he is not on par with Howard's vocals just no. But he's good enough to be back in that band and as Howard's replacement. Thank God.
There is only one way to describe this performance. Pure and absolute love. These two love what they do and you can tell they had an amazing amount of respect for each other when they did this. God bless these two vocalist :' )
Howard and Jesse both bring their own style to the band. You can't go past the original, but you have to see the input from both of them in that song. Fuckin MENTAL. I have this DVD and it's by far my fav Music DVD that I own!
4 years late but hell, why not answer now! To me it feels like Howard went in and did his job, nothing more, nothing less. And he was excellent at it, while it feels more to me that Jesse really puts his heart and soul into KsE more. That's easy to tell when comparing lyrics. Jesse is way better at writing lyrics with meaning and gives a more "soulful" sound, while Howard is a spectacular vocal machine that can't be compared with. I'm not saying Howard's lyrics doesn't mean anything. It does, but it's not as thoughtful.
Seriously when you listen to BHBS you just wonder how the wonderful singing voice come out of the same dude. Howard is so brutal in that band, would have never guess he could sing as well as he does.
higler420 He did some pretty good cleans when he was in Blood has Been Shed. The production may have no been as great as on albums with KsE, but hes always had a wonderfully majestic clean singing voice. I have always preferred Jesse over Howard in KsE but Howard really shines with BHBS. Like at the end of She Speaks To Me, Howard has a great clean voice.
Devil You Know is incredible. It totally defied my expectations, and I'm still jamming that album. I wonder if they'll come out with another album? Don't really have my hopes up on that though
The difference between jesse and howard is that howard has a much richer, smoother, more powerful voice than jesse does. While jesse is still an excellent vocalist, i personally dont think he has the vocal maturity that Howard Jones has
***** He used to blow his voice out, even back then from what I understand, but he seems to have REALLY developed a technique since ToG's first album. He's learned false cord screaming and seems to have either taken lessons or just created a new technique because his voice is sounding on par with Howard's nowadays, albeit with Jesse's tone.
Jesse really has come a long way though. His vocal maturity since AoJB was pretty stunning that is why i'm really looking forward for their next album see what they will do. Disarm the Descent was pretty fucking good. It's sad that no matter what KSE video i'm there is always this Jesse vs Howard debate though. Both Alive or Just Breathing and As Daylight Dies are my favorite albums from this band. I can't seem to rank of which two are better so they are both equal to my eyes. Also this might seem weird but the fact that this band has two great singers in their discography made this band more unique and awesome.
Same favorite albums; I love AoJB so much and As Daylight Dies really felt as though the band wanted to make a sequel to AoJB because a lot of the song structure is similar in that it's excellent.
Maybe at this point he was, but Howard's singing voice seems to have deteriorated over the years while Jesse seems to have MASSIVELY upped his singing technique.
They are both different but complementary. Howard seems so humble, he didn't do too much for let the place to Jesse even if he could have managed it better
Agreed. I love them both. Heard of them when Jesse was originally in. Became a fan during Howard's time. Finally got to see them live on Saturday. Hoping to see them again in July. Jesse did an excellent interview with fuse about the whole 'Jesse vs. Howard' situation and summed it up wonderfully: Essentially saying "Even if you don't like him, don't disrespect Howard in front of me.. He's great. We're different. I respect him."
its called breath control, the better you have it, the longer you can maintain notes, and the origianl song(written and sang by jesse, doent have that "extra" lenght)
Dude I bleed Killswitch, was a fan and concert goer BEFORE Howie took the reigns. Jess has a blood curling scream and was decent in the beginning. When Howard took over though? I remember being there live wondering if he was going to be good one of his first times live with KSE... that was the night KSE became more than a great band to me. Although I give Jess credit, he came back better than he used to be and filled some big shoes Howard left. The racist shit you mentioned? I don't give a shit about ANYONE'S skincolor, dunno why anyone would. And if they did, it's probably some kid hiding behind a computer/phone. They don't count, they're fuckin useless.
Jonathan Boyles yeah would be cool, personally I prefer Howard’s screams on recordings. It’s sounds more unique. Jesse definitely scream better live but overall Howard is a better live performer.
This is beyond greatness seeing this with Jesse and Howard coming together complete with the additional Easter Egg of Andreas of Sepultura riffing away! Metal Epicness!
jesse had no vocal warm up's what so ever, he literary was notified 20sec before they starded playing (yo jesse your up) ( jesse: wtf?) and he managed to pull that off..
I like Howard alot too, But they're both very good and I will not complain about either of them singing for KSE. It could be worse and some other random guy could be singing for them.
Chester's easily a better singer, but Jesse specializes in screamo, so that's hard to beat. Chester does more overall with his voice though, so variety probably wins.
Having both there permanently..... my ears would bleed and I would bleed out on how fucking amazing it is. I would literally listen to no other band ever
Jesse can scream and Howard can belt out the melodic chorus... a dynamic duo!
Exactly. Howard’s screams are good but Jesse’s are way more powerful
wish we could just have both honestly. jesse for screams and howard for the singing. also wish adam had more backup vocals in their songs
I love Jesse been listening since before he left, but howard is better in ever aspect. Just my opinion still love all you guys

Howard is the more professional sounding vocalist, but I do quite like the rawness of Jessie's screams.
Maybe at this point he was, but Howard's singing voice seems to have deteriorated over the years while Jesse seems to have MASSIVELY upped his singing technique.
They are both different but complementary. Howard seems so humble, he didn't do too much for let the place to Jesse even if he could have managed it better
The guitar on right is Andreas Kisser?
yes he is. headbanging exclusive from andreas kisser.
I respect him."
lol howard range is longer, when both sing the clean section u can hear jesse voice always fading away first at the end
thats not range xD
its called breath control, the better you have it, the longer you can maintain notes, and the origianl song(written and sang by jesse, doent have that "extra" lenght)
still watching this in far 2016. guys that was fuckin awesome. i wish i could see smth like that again
wheres Adam?
This.
Hey had a broken leg at the time and couldn’t preform
Dude. This performance hit different! So emotional
Howard has a better singing voice, no doubt, but Jesse's screaming is so much better for the band
They should do what BFMV does and have a vocalist for cleans and one for screams. Howard for cleans and jesse for screams
Jonathan Boyles yeah would be cool, personally I prefer Howard’s screams on recordings. It’s sounds more unique. Jesse definitely scream better live but overall Howard is a better live performer.
The End of Heartache duet this week brought me back here
I like them both but Jesse's voice is just weaker. I still think Jesse does this song better.
This is beyond greatness seeing this with Jesse and Howard coming together complete with the additional Easter Egg of Andreas of Sepultura riffing away! Metal Epicness!
lol playing the riffs wrong
Blame Andreas kisser lol
Javier Romero
why
+Cam Par for playing the riffs wrong
Javier Romero
but theres another guitar player there besides joel
+Cam Par yeah you're right so I guess it's his fault then lol
Song sounds sooo heavy, but clean. Love it!!
Man: Did you know that Howard is 10 million times better than Jesse
Friend: Uh huh, Everybody knows that...
jesse had no vocal warm up's what so ever, he literary was notified 20sec before they starded playing (yo jesse your up) ( jesse: wtf?) and he managed to pull that off..
I like Howard alot too, But they're both very good and I will not complain about either of them singing for KSE. It could be worse and some other random guy could be singing for them.
Wow cant believe im still watching this after 12 years
Jesse trying to match howard on Clean vocals is a literal joke
I was just thinking the same thing! I love them both but Howard kills it on vocals his voice is amazing!
+Ryan Lansford same with howard trying to match jesse on screams
+wyatt Hinsley that can be debated, but there is no debating that Jesse sounds like an infant getting raped when he sings
+Ryan Lansford Jesse's screams are insanse, raw and brutal. Howard is a great singer, but there is an edge to Jesse that is perfect for metalcore.
Chester's easily a better singer, but Jesse specializes in screamo, so that's hard to beat. Chester does more overall with his voice though, so variety probably wins.
That last part was amazing!! Jesse's scream and Howards harmonic voice was truly legendary
I absolutely love how both the singers get so ecstatic by the end it's actually wholesome to look at.
Having both there permanently..... my ears would bleed and I would bleed out on how fucking amazing it is. I would literally listen to no other band ever
Howard is better but if they work together until now, Killswitch Engage will always reign in metalcore history.
Came back to this after listening to The Signal Fire. We finally got the both of them singing together in recording!
Listen to Take this oath
niceee
I bet that moment at the end whoever was there would have nearly shed tears seeing something as epic as exit Jesse enter Howard!
Devil you know and Killswitch Engage should get a tour going so we get more of this.
i like how the old singer and the old-old/new singer get along so well..
