I'm very glad about the panel moving out of the way for arm articulation. One of my biggest concerns was the way Hasbro kept posing him made it look like he couldn't hold his arm straight out. Thank you for alleviating my concerns. Now we just need G2 Starscream.
First of all the transformation is surprisingly more complex than I expected which was a pretty identical transformation to the original G2 Optimus Prime This turned out to be actually better than I originally expected both in terms of looks and accessories definitely going to buy this
Really want to see a future Bayberse repaint of this like that old spychanger toy, in fact I can see some room here for maybe a Bayberse repaint, Scourge repaint and DOTM Megatron retool

The original, now 27 year old figure certainly was, however when you objectively compare this with the original, the original comes out as the far superior figure overall.
First off, this figure needs to be rereleased as Scourge some point down the line. Secondly, this along with Dragstrip and Bulkhead look like the most promising figures of wave 1 of Legacy!
Wow, I will always be a G1 guy but that is such an elegant design. It is really cool that, despite being so true to the G2 aesthetic, it shares design language and feels like the same universe as the G1 figure. I never thought I would want it as badly as I do now. G1 will always be "my Prime", but this is a really cool figure to play with and display.
I still have my original 1995 version of this figure. It was my first transformer as a kid. It's old with loose joints and rubbed off paint but I've kept it for sentimental reasons. It's amazing how much more complicated the transformation is on the new one yet it still manages to look the same.
Too bad that when you objectively compare it to the now 27 year old original, this figure comes out worse. The transformation manages to be simpler in parts and more complex in other parts, while being far less elegant. The shoulder articulation is worse, the wrist articulation is achieved by removing the main gimmick of the original and the only net gain on the original is ankle tilt. I'll add that electronics have improved over the past 30 years, so it doesn't even get that pass on the wrist articulation. The trailer on this has been so utterly gutted that it makes what happened to ER Prime's trailer look utterly tame in comparison. It's lack of accessories means that the weapon storage isn't as intelligent, and the removable matrix and scultped in, comparative runt of a laser cannon, comparative short sword as compared to the bastard the original had and not even removable, let alone firing shoulder missiles, don't even begin to offset the gutting of the air powered missile launcher, disc launcher and ripple fire missile launcher. If Hasbro weren't going to do an update justice on arguably the best figure in the entire G2 line, then they should have left it alone.
Just pre ordered mine, I really can’t wait to get this guy in hand, but I’m not keeping the stock paint job, I’m repainting it into either traditional prime colors (red, silver, blue) or Bayverse (flames) and this review just made me more excited for this dude to finally ship

Well... more rockets and missiles on the trailer base would have been nice, but there is only so much you can expect from a modern toy. Can't wait for the RID Scourge repaint! Also: Hasbro, please keep that the name, don't put it out under "Nemesis Prime..."
G2 Laser Optimus Prime released in 1995, 12 years before Bayverse Optimus Prime existed. (in fact, Bayverse Prime’s alt-mode and the cab’s colors fading into another were directly inspired by G2 Laser Optimus Prime)
G2 Optimus didn't have flames, he had red fade on his bonnet. Maybe you're mistaking it for the Reveal the Shield version? Which had the flames, and came out a few years after the movies.

This is the most accurate G2 prime I can think of. But I think a few gap fillers for the legs and a more weapons for the tanker to give it the "Battle Tanker" vibe.
This looks pretty fun. I have some issues with the proportions and the shoulders being too far down and not having all that shoulder armor being able to move is a bummer but still looks kinda cool overall. Love the alt mode, BTW!

After nearly a decade of being pounded year after year with G1 mainly, I noticed that so far in this first wave.. only one G1 character while the rest so far are from newer parts and shows, etc. And at least with this figure, they didn't half ass it, they went all out to make this guy a good leader class and it does so with flying colors

While I don't care much for G2, Laser Optimus is one of the few things I do legit like about it. Great design and upgrade for the beloved character. I got the 2005 Takara re-release of Laser Optimus a while back and really loved the fig. Seeing this upgraded one in vein of the Generations and WFC style is great. The transformation is shockingly very involved, but it makes the fig even more worth it. Much like how Laser Optimus is meant to be the next step and form for G1 Optimus, this fig does feel like the next step and difficulty level for Earthrise Optimus. It just looks bigger, has a more striking design, and a better implemented trailer. Lack of hand articulation feels a bit disappointing, but I agree with you that it's not a big deal breaker. I'm so looking forward to getting this vid and adding it to the collection. I also await a possible repaint of this into RID 2001 Scourge.

The one thing that would make this figure a little bit better for me is make all the black parts blue as opposed to the black! All in all a smooth figure throughout!
Such a raw design. Thr backpack is the only weak part I think, the rest is fire. Legs look very fine and clean but man those shoulders. They're the bestpart about thid figure.
The core design is brilliant and it's why the original figure is one of the best figures in the whole of G2 and still holds up well today. However having owned the original, I can tell you that on balance, this figure is worse than the G2 original. If you love the design, track down the original - you wont be disappointed.

I personally hope we get this guy repainted into Car Robots Black Convoy (RID 2001 Scourge). I have the original version which is not a bad figure, but the chrome I feel is just a bad idea as it can flake and chip over time.
I hope that we can get an RID 2001 Scourge recolor of Legacy Laser Optimus Prime. He could easily be recolored to him because he was essentially a recolor of the original Laser Prime.

this has been one of my favourite Optimus designs (other than TFP) since I first saw it in the reveal the shield line. Sadly never got my hands on one, defiantly going to get this guy and possibly a scourge repaint of him.
I never thought I'd like the look of this figure as much as I do! When it first came out, I was iffy about the design due to the existence of the rts version. But now, I really do like it. Thanks for giving me this first look at the figure, I have something to look forward to in the summer!
It's so awesome to get a long-nose truck that turns into something that actually looks like Optimus Prime instead of a pile of jagged scrap and exposed parts like the bayformers! I'm just wondering how long they'll wait on the Nemesis recolor, honestly. It would be cool if they made a new Fire Convoy/God Magnus set to go opposite that! Man, I'm just super hyped for this guy and the Stunticoms, especially compared too the other Legacy figures seen so far.
I've always found this Prime's shoulders look silly. Like it completely blocks his vision down to tunnel... Megatron would have a field day doing melee combat against this Prime for sure 😆 🤣
It looks great as both modes, but wow that transformation is very complex! Maybe after doing it a few times it wouldn't be so hard. I never really got into G2, but I can see fans of G2 really liking this.
There was a G2 Laser Optimus Prime in Titans Return (Octane pretool), and long before that, there was the Deluxe class offering in Reveal the Shield. As for this beast...the shoulder pylons being stuck in place kinda sucks, considering that they were movable on the Deluxe (as the actual shoulders). That Matrix is actually a bit taller in exchange for the shortened length, which is fine by me. It's definitely a figure I gotta get...if stores around me ever bother to carry it.

now this is the Optimus Prime that probably going to become my definitive since it's the perfect counter to my gdo Megatron which used the bludgeon mold.
This is good. The transformation is especially impressive and almost too complex. I don't feel like this trailer is really an improvement over the Earthrise one. If it had all the weapons of the original G2 Optimus/Scourge, then it would be, especially with missiles that actually fired. All we get here is a turret gun that doesn't look as good as the original.
Don't get me wrong, I like this Prime, I will get him when released, but I just hope Hasbro aren't going the cheap route. ER Prime engineering hides the fact that he's a truck very well compared here.

With this figurs, as compared to the original, now 27 year old figure, the transformation is more complex and more simple in parts, while being far less elegant, the articulation is worse in the shoulders, the wrist is only improved because it lost the electronics and the only net gain is ankle tilt. On top of that, the weapon storage was more intelligent on the original, the laser cannon is a complete runt in comparison to the original, the laser sword which was a bastard on the original, is now a glorified short sword, which needs to combine with another weapon to be as impressive, and the trailer in this case, is gutted even more than ER Prime's trailer was. I honestly thought the bar for "updates" being worse than their predecessors, couldn't get any worse than WFC Arcee, Chromia and Rhinox as compared to their T30 versions, but this is such a downgrade and utter fail, that it has raised the bar for suckiness even higher. The best advice I would give everyone is to give this figure a wide berth and track down the original G2 version. Even being almost 30 years old, on balance, it still utterly craps all over this figure.

1. It's not straight up G1.
2. I love movieverse Prime, so the flames and long nose truck feels familiar to me.

I remember having the old version of this figure, I got it from my dad when I was a kid. I could never remember what the "Oil Tanker Optimus" was called, but now I do!
Laser Prime: "Hey, pal. Imma borrow your legs."
ER Prime: "Uuuhhh... sorry, pal. But you can't have my legs."

I honestly really hope they repaint this figure to make a 'legacy Bayformers' Optimus Prime cause I really love the mold but I just hate the colours tbh
this has been one of my favourite Optimus designs (other than TFP) since I first saw it in the reveal the shield line. Sadly never got my hands on one, defiantly going to get this guy and possibly a scourge repaint of him.

I am confident that we'll be getting the inevitable Scourge/Nemesis Prime repaint. That is the one I'll be getting.

This is a huge upgrade when compared to the head masters optimus with pylons and tanker
I never thought I'd like the look of this figure as much as I do! When it first came out, I was iffy about the design due to the existence of the rts version. But now, I really do like it.

It's so awesome to get a long-nose truck that turns into something that actually looks like Optimus Prime instead of a pile of jagged scrap and exposed parts like the bayformers! I'm just wondering how long they'll wait on the Nemesis recolor, honestly. It would be cool if they made a new Fire Convoy/God Magnus set to go opposite that! Man, I'm just super hyped for this guy and the Stunticoms, especially compared too the other Legacy figures seen so far.

I've always found this Prime's shoulders look silly. Like it completely blocks his vision down to tunnel... Megatron would have a field day doing melee combat against this Prime for sure 😆 🤣

It looks great as both modes, but wow that transformation is very complex! Maybe after doing it a few times it wouldn't be so hard. I never really got into G2, but I can see fans of G2 really liking this.

There was a G2 Laser Optimus Prime in Titans Return (Octane pretool), and long before that, there was the Deluxe class offering in Reveal the Shield. As for this beast...the shoulder pylons being stuck in place kinda sucks, considering that they were movable on the Deluxe (as the actual shoulders). That Matrix is actually a bit taller in exchange for the shortened length, which is fine by me.
It's definitely a figure I gotta get...if stores around me ever bother to carry it.

Wow 😱😱😱😱!!! This version far cooler than G1 Optimus Prime 😁! I love flame design on this Optimus Prime because it does reminds me of Bayverse Optimus Prime 😃, plus, i do really love this colouration on G2 Optimus Prime 😊 because this version very so different when compared the others Optimus Prime which always same colouration over and over again 😃. So, for my opinion, the G2 Optimus Prime far superior than G1 Optimus Prime 😁. I also love this oil tank from G2 Optimus Prime 😊 because this one also something different when compared to others Optimus Prime which always use the trailer over and over again 😃. The G2 Optimus Prime is so unique among Optimus Prime so far 😁! The oil tank transformed into Battle station is fun to play for my opinion 😃. I wish, Hasbro and Takara Tomy can give us more Transformers G2 design or Transformers G2 characters, it will be awesome 😄! Thank you for this video, PrimevsPrime 😄! I have the original G2 Laser Optimus Prime and I love the thing. I'm excited about this figure, can't wait to get my hands on him!
This is good. The transformation is especially impressive and almost too complex. I don't feel like this trailer is really an improvement over the Earthrise one. If it had all the weapons of the original G2 Optimus/Scourge, then it would be, especially with missiles that actually fired. All we get here is a turret gun that doesn't look as good as the original.
that flap they used to cover a spot to make it not hollow is the star of the show. They need to use that technique more often
Prime vs. Prime's reviews are like works of art in themselves.
Don't get me wrong, I like this Prime, I will get him when released, but I just hope Hasbro aren't going the cheap route. ER Prime engineering hides the fact that he's a truck very well compared here.

I could not disagree more. With this figurs, as compared to the original, now 27 year old figure, the transformation is more complex and more simple in parts, while being far less elegant, the articulation is worse in the shoulders, the wrist is only improved because it lost the electronics and the only net gain is ankle tilt. On top of that, the weapon storage was more intelligent on the original, the laser cannon is a complete runt in comparison to the original, the laser sword which was a bastard on the original, is now a glorified short sword, which needs to combine with another weapon to be as impressive, and the trailer in this case, is gutted even more than ER Prime's trailer was. I honestly thought the bar for "updates" being worse than their predecessors, couldn't get any worse than WFC Arcee, Chromia and Rhinox as compared to their T30 versions, but this is such a downgrade and utter fail, that it has raised the bar for suckiness even higher.
The best advice I would give everyone is to give this figure a wide berth and track down the original G2 version. Even being almost 30 years old, on balance, it still utterly craps all over this figure.
