I find it very fucked up that creator owned stories are a strange, revolutionary thing in comic books. If a novel publishing house tried to hijack a character or a story there'd be total outrage. Thank God for Image.
kyle whitehead also marvel and DC did steal characters from image comics too. the writers own the characters so these companies force the writers switch those characters from image to their universe
I love Brubaker's comment about the money going to the people that do the work! The freedom of the talented creative people really shines through. Through Film, TV, and Books, Image come out with the best original stories IMO. So refreshing in an age of remakes and re-hashes.
+Michael martinez i strive to improve on my art and story telling skills very day. Hopefully by the end of summer my friends and i will have our one shot done.
How is there no content for their channel? You have a lot of the best new comics coming out and you've been on such a role with hit after hit and this is all that is on the channel? I usually find out about the new series too late and miss out on buying the first issue (like I did with Wayward and Saga). Image has been so good the past few years that whenever I hear there is a new series, I pick it up without even looking at what it's about, and I've yet to be disappointed. The content on Marvel and DC's channels are lacking in excitement, and you should be taking advantage of this.
Image went the right path! I used to "meh" on Image's comics of the 90s, but the indies saved the whole thing. I just feel sad about Jim Lee selling out to DC, giving up his freedom.
Been with image from the beginning, I buy every book you put out. If it was not for image I would not be reading comics. Image is john lennon's imagine brought to life!! You are number 1 to me and will always be.
I wish animators had the same options to own their creations when it comes to cartoons. I would love to start a show and do whatever I want with it and take it to whatever network I want to continue it if it were cancelled.
Goblin_King Everything gets outsourced when it comes to animation on tv. Thats why theres so few studios being made here in america. What little money we can make in that case isnt necesarrily enough to afford a family. Its so expensive here in america. I mean that Thundercats reboot was animated in Japan.
If you want the history of Image, check out a documentary called "The Image Revolution." It's available on sequart.org. In the movie, they interview all 7 founders and they go in depth about all the good times and the bad. They talk about Jim Lee and Rob Liefeld's departures, the Heroes Reborn deal, the drama with Marc Silvestri, and much more. Do a Google search, you'll find it.
Well, this wasn’t about its history, but what Image represents to new creators and creators in general. You have total freedom at Image. It’s your book, your choice. That’s what it’s about.
I've had an idea for a comic for a long time, it's a western with spiritual elements. It's called Deadpoint Saloon. When I send in the portfolio, I'm sure that Image will accept it. Crossing my fingers...
I admire the company and enjoy very much reading the comics, they address very clearly in this video the question of autonomy, which is why the seven men wanted to start their own company.
Does anyone know the name of a character from a comic book who wears blue tights (blue super hero like suit) with 2 vertical white lines that come to a circular design in the middle of his chest? I can't find the guy anywhere and I remember seeing him in a comic book I once had. The art in the comic book looked similar to something Todd Mcfarlane would do.
J'ai découvert cette société a travers l'anime invincible et j'ai eu envie d'en savoir plus sur et ce qu'ils ont fait dans l'industrie des comics est tout simplement phénoménal
Wow,you truly do differ from other comic book publishers and the way you do it, well, it's just amazing.Creators surely must have the right to do whatever they want with their creations(excluding cases of world floods and holywars) Btw, sorry for my English, it is not my native language.
Jack Carr I don't know if I'd read a book written by someone who can't spell "sure" but I wish you luck and hope your storytelling is better than your spelling.
It's the story of a former sidekick emergin from the shadow of his mentor after his mentor is killed and it has flashbacks to his life as a sidekick and beyond
Archie H That seems Really cool. Did he give up on being a Hero or...? Is he brought Back to the game without wanting in one point in time? I don't know, but i really do care! If a pontencial reader wants to know what's coming up, the writer must be doing a good Job. So, keep on doing it! Im also trying to write my comic book, but, Its taking a while, but i'll get there, eventually...
Image thank you for this inspiring video brought a tear down my eye I just remembered that how I use to draw in elementary and middle school Also I remember me and my uncle use to make stories together I remember doing one story about a tournament with these three heros and heronie fighting to their death to save their universe for survival from a unknown threat and species of warriors
While I find Image's concept fascinating, you cannot deny that the polar opposite (Marvel and DC) is also necessary in this equation. There's room for both kinds of comics, which is something to be embraced.
I would not mine you guys doing more animated movies like Spawn or Batman versus Spawn or something Something from your comic books lineups More animated movies
Make your way to a convention sometime there's alot of unknown artists not only with tables at the con but also alot of artists wander around and sit in on panels about making comics. That's one thing you're kinda on your own for the companies don't pair you up, so if you're a writer you have to find an artists and artists have to find writers.
Submission form on image comics web says, "There are times, however, when we may have a better idea we might fly so dont get married to any one format, but we'd like to know what you have in mind." Yet image is "Freedom." I TAKE NO CREDIT!!!!! I still like image though, esp twd.
#Imagecomics has definitely grown since it’s first forays and improved in content human and solving human problems and the later of the events in super-heroism HE RO IS M IM GUESSING ITS THE LOOK THAT INSPIRES THE NAME WHAT IS IN A IMAGE A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS IT SAYS IT ALL
Yeah comics need editors , but the editors should just be used to tell the creator when they have literally gone to far up shit creek and they have no pattle and there about to sink into the shit also I don't mean sex criminals that's a good comic alright , but the creator should be allowed to pick there editor
Doing three Freaks is the working title of a book about clone with abilities living in an underground city Protectors is about super team who have to prepare for an inter dimensional war and its also a parody of established comics And community is about a settlement five years after a zombie virus destroyed all of the USA and how the settlement has created its own internet and phone signal and how it's running out of supplies
I just do not get why Ethan van sciver did not jump on broad with you guys. It kind like indie publisher. Comic gate seem to done like good to no good for comic industry as whole. If comicgaters where true comic fans your sale would be way up. instead they fans of the characters so just stop buying comics when that character being what they want it to be.
Sure the concept of being "creator owned" is a HUGE deal...Good luck bashing your head off the drawing board or laptop to get in. I'll stick with Create Space.
Nathan Zsido Although, on an optimistic note. . .god the exposure is worth the hard work to get into Image. I just haven't challenged myself that hard yet.
+Sonicminer a Netflix tv series would be welcome also.. That book had so much potential and the other books that weren't as good imo got movies and cartoon series made from them. lol there was a bootleg video game of shadowhawk made though.
Image has simply saved the future of comic books
I find it very fucked up that creator owned stories are a strange, revolutionary thing in comic books. If a novel publishing house tried to hijack a character or a story there'd be total outrage. Thank God for Image.
Amen to that
Slapland productions Marvel and DC are run like Hollywood. I don't know about you, but that's not somewhere I'd like to work.
kyle whitehead well they both own the copyrights to the word "Superheroes " and crush other small time companies who try to use it.
kyle whitehead also marvel and DC did steal characters from image comics too.
the writers own the characters so these companies force the writers switch those characters from image to their universe
Image is changing the world of comics, just like they did 20 years ago. I hope to see my own name next to the Image logo on the cover of a book.
Me too plus mad mother is one your comics
I have a dream to bro, let's all get there one day.

This Documentary Short is actually amazing 😁
ROFL. Vaughan perfectly describes what it's like to grow up on Marvel and DC comics.
Long live Image. Creator owned comics ftw
Image is dope as fuck.
One day ill work here for sure
Dude, go for it!!

@@STMBLL_ Wanna partner up??
@@Naqvioski out of curiosity what are you skilled at? Pencils? Inks? Colors?
Image, Dark Horse, Mirage, and IDW all need more attention.
Image sells just as well as Marvel and DC....So....Yea...There's that!
LoboDeSade but I think they could use more mainstream attention outside the comic book industry
It's great to see the faces behind my favorite stories talking about full artistic control.
How is there no content for their channel? You have a lot of the best new comics coming out and you've been on such a role with hit after hit and this is all that is on the channel? reeeeallyawesome image doesn't really own the characters.

big fan of Kelly Sue Deconnick. and many series out of Image. good stuff
Image Comics just complete my life, like god!
Fantastic mini-documentary! I don't have to tell you how much we here at the Savage FINcast love Image, its focus, and its creators!
Image went the right path! I used to "meh" on Image's comics of the 90s, but the indies saved the whole thing. I just feel sad about Jim Lee selling out to DC, giving up his freedom.
jim lee runs dc now...

Wow! Very inspiring! Keep it up with the amazing work, Image Comics! :)
Damn if I was an artist or writer Image is where I'd be! Thank you for Wanted, Velvet, Monstress, Rat Queens, Lazarus and Romulus.
I hope this the first of many, many vids on this channel! Best comic company PERIOD!
I wish animators had the same options to own their creations when it comes to cartoons. I would love to start a show and do whatever I want with it and take it to whatever network I want to continue it if it were cancelled.
Jayman493 Maybe they should start their own animations studio?

Post it on TH-cam. There are a few YT exclusive cartoons.
Andrew Allen From what I hear lately you can't make money off that anymore.
Dint know why
I would love to draw for you on paper I just need get back my talent and passion to draw again haven't drawn since elementary and middle school
i remember how excited i was when it launched. the original core members where awesome! i wanna work here! So Bad!
Sounds like a great company.
We love Image.. I really hope I can do a comic at Image in my future!
I love the philosophy of Image Comics, there are many talents out there, give them a voice.
My creator-owned slogan for you: "Image is Everything."
I would kill to work at Image.
Love image, been a fan since the beginning, and theirs are the books I recommend most
Awesome video.
I already love Image, but after this video, I love them even more! About 70% of what I buy is from Image.
I love image! I'll work there on day!
Since I was a kid in the 90's, I've only read Image comics loyally... everything else just perishes in comparison. Bravo guys!
Would have been nice to hear more on the history of image, but overall, a very good documentary.

Yeah Image no longer even looks at submissions. They just say they do, but unknown writers do not have a shot anymore, after the success of Saga.
