    Excellent job. I like the back support , the rounded front for the back of the legs, and the curved top of the back.

    I've made a lot of Adirondack chairs with the Norm Abrams plans. I like your style, the back is very graceful and light. Nicely done. I would never have imagined or thought to use 5/4 cedar decking. Geeze, what a stroke of genius! Thanks.

    Nice build nice details quality material. Reminds me of when I built my chairs 29 years ago.
    When i lived in NC I loved going to Myrtle Beach, but probably went to the Outer Banks more often.

    Nice work on the router with the template. It looks like you know exactly when to climb cut. I learned from boards flying out of my hands, pretty scary, but there is definitely a learning curve on using templates. I see you also left as little wood a possible to trim, that really helps as well. And thanks for the plans link.

    Thanks cabn12. I made one chair, following your instruction video. I just got some douglas wood and are going to make some more chairs. I made a routertable and are now looking for an old jig saw to put it under a table, to make a jig saw table. Never realized the fun of making your own furniture..... Greetings from the Netherlands, and please stop putting your fingers near that circle saw......

    I’ve been making Adirondack chairs using cedar decking in the exact method shown in your video, for years. After the first two, I made the plywood patterns for the router pattern bit like you show. Cedar decking is more readily available than cedar “lumber” and they make a nice sturdy chair. You just have to pick through the pile to get some clear pieces if you going to do a clear finish. There are many styles of these chairs. I can get two chairs from ten 8 foot boards. I’ve tried a couple of finishing methods, but paint seems to be the most popular. Thanks for making this video, shooting and editing the video is harder than building the chairs.

    Thank you for the great video! Your chairs look good. The plans say the bottom back rail (part C) has a 7 degree bevel on the radius to accommodate the back slats. But you don't show how to make that cut in the video. Band saw/jig saw and router will work for the upper rail at 90 degrees but how did you get the correct bevel on the lower back rail? Sorry if this has already been asked. Thanks in advance...

    Have you had any issues with the cross-grain gluing of the vertical (front) legs with the "stretchers"????? Specifically, splitting????
    Seems that using 5/16" or 3/8" carriage bolts/washers/locknuts would prevent possible splitting of the wood, due to weather/temperature changes.

    • @cabn12
      @cabn12  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have several chairs that are at least 10yrs old and have spent their life uncovered on a deck with no issues with just glue and deck screws. Carriage bolts would certainly be better but maybe not necessary.

    Great looking chair ! I just purchased the boards today and started cutting the templates out of MDF. I was just wondering if the chair was not a bit too small. Do you have any pictures with someone sitting on them or can tell me what size this fits. Thanks !

    • @cabn12
      @cabn12  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I made the original from the plans but then slightly modified them. I took the templates and extended the arms and side rails by 2". This makes the chairs better for larger people, say 6' ish. My wife that is about 5'6" likes the original chair. When I made a set of four for someone I made two original and two with the 2" extension.

      Thanks. I charged $250 a chair when I made them for people. I originally only charged $150 but then realized my time is worth something. I hate working in a messy shop. it slows down work flow. I don't like spending more time looking for tape measures and pencils then actual working.

    Thanks! I’m going to give this a try. A couple of questions: The 5/4 cedar decking is available here in FL but it’s a special order. Looks like your boards are 8 ft length correct? Also, I’d like to make the chair seat a couple of inches taller to make it easier to get into/out of for older folks while still retaining the seat and back angles. How do I figure out how much longer to make the side supports?

    • @cabn12
      @cabn12  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      making the side supports longer to raise the height would change the angle. I would start with the support in the plans and modify that to raise the chair. Use 1/4 MDF as a template. That's what I did to make the chair lean back a little more as well as make it comfortable for people over 6'. I have two versions of the chair. The original in the plans and a lager one.

    Hiya
    Great video thanks, did you add a last slat into the seat or was that the off cut from the radius as it looks like you removed it later and it’s not on the plans? Also out of interest how did you add the bevel to the bottom piece for the seat back
    Thanks

    • @cabn12
      @cabn12  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The last seat slat was the cut off. I did have to remove it though to be able to screw in the back slats. To add the bevel to the back-rail I tilted the table on the band saw to 7°. You could also do that with a jig saw

    They look great and the plans from Popular Mechanics are free which is nice. How did you create your own templates without any dimensions.

    • @cabn12
      @cabn12  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you click on 'View a larger version of this animation' in the link I provided it has detailed views of the parts. I used graph paper, tapped together to get the actual size. I then copied that to 1/4" MDF and cut it out. I carefully sanded each piece taking time as they would be the template for all my chairs. I later modified the templates stretching the legs and arms by two inches so the chairs would lean back a little and sit more comfortably
