He was only 22 years old when he did the soundtrack for "When Harry Met Sally". The movie wouldn't have been the genius it is without that music. This guy is so underrated.
I totally agree! I sold my Merry Christmas song (that I composed for his voice) to his management company about 30 years ago for 1st rights to record it. They paid me a tidy sum, though never recorded it for some reason. I would have loved to hear Harry actually singing it. He is an amazingly talented vocalist, pianist, AND orchestral arranger! Of course, his Dad was also a well known band leader, and he grew up with great entertainers like Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie, and many others always visiting and staying at their home in New Orleans. So he had quite a great musical education at a very young age. ... Music, Peace & Love! 🎼❤☮
+mysweetharmony He is still very popular in the jazz world. Every single show I've gone to over the last 20 years have been sold out. I'm sure there is some new interest since he was on the American Idol show. Besides everything you mentioned, he is also one of the best entertainers I've ever seen as well. He can charm the crowd the second he walks on stage until he leaves at the end.
His TV show was very under appreciated. His music is under appreciated. He is a native son of New Orleans....Why is Harry Connick Jr. not APPRECIATED. I am not into his type of music, except when HE does anything. I just happen to catch him in concert....He was spectacular....He had an 18 yr. old drummer in his band that was elevated above the audience for good reason---He was spectacular.....from another planet!!!!
I drove my husband NUTS harmonizing this from 'The Soundtrack' for longer than is healthy.🤭 How am I just watching/hearing this NOW??!!🤯 My heart STILL flutters... 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Harry Connick Jr is an amazing talented vocalist, pianist, AND orchestral arranger! Nat King Cole was a wonderful vocalist and pianist, and Sinatra was a great crooner, though Harry Connick Jr can do it ALL! Of course, his Dad was also a well known band leader, and he grew up with great entertainers like Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie, and many others always visiting and staying at their home in New Orleans. So he had quite a wonderful "musical education" at a very young age. I sold my Merry Christmas song (that I composed for his voice) to his management company about 30 years ago for 1st rights to record it. They paid me a tidy sum, though never recorded it for some reason. I would have loved to hear Harry actually singing it. ... Music, Peace & Love! 🎼❤☮
I'm so pleased Harry Connick Jr. is keeping the tradition of the Crooner alive. I especially like it when he accompanies his Frank Sinatra-Mel Torme-esk vocals on piano.
Over a period of five days after getting to know Harry and his music, I can say that he is now one of my favorite musicians. He embodies everything I seek in a swing singer, and more :)
Duke Ellington wrote the music and Bob Russell wrote lyrics to " Don't Get Around Anymore". One of the greatest Jazz Standered ever written, Harry Connick Jr is fantastic.
This is so incredible - right on the edge the whole time. No doubt they rehearsed this several times, but still, who really knows what happens next.........? Belongs in a music history textbook, sorta.
What a great talent-can play anything to perfection (including classical, ragtime, etc.) - and I even ordered a green & black dress his magnificent wife modeled years ago in V/S
Harry Sr. was a detriment to society as New Orleans District Attny but Jr. has given back more than enough to make up for the old man. Harry is awesome.
I had the pleasure of knowing Harry as he lived in my town when I was a kid (new cannan Ct) i used to always talk to him at starbucks. He was so nice to me and actually took the time to talk. Very gracious
I have this VHS tape also, but when I listened to it on here it does not seem to be in stereo, so I dug out my old VCR and popped my tape of this concert into it and wah lah S-T-E-R-E-O, I donno what was the matter here. This is my favorite Harry Connick, Jr., recording, audio or video, by far, the best. I to looked around for a DVD, but can't find it on DVD. Guess it wasn't popular for that at the time. To bad, I'd love to see it reissued on BluRay DVD.
This is just fantastic! As good--if not better--than the recording! Jazz music needs to make a huge comeback, especially in England; it hasn't really hit us big in years and we have some fantastic hidden talents!!!
AINT NO OTHER MAN... WELL NO OTHER JAZZ SINGER.JAZZ PIANIST... and I went to HU he even came to visit... Only white man I will EVER LOVE....True crooner. True entertainer... that's a real dude. Love you Harry. Was delighted when he married the VS model I was like, damn, I get that delivered to my dorm like whoa, so I liked her, Jill. Hope they are still together. HOPE HE IS STILL PERFORMING. I AM AND HOPE TO MEET HIM AGAIN ONE DAY.
The problem with Harry Connick JR is he is almost to clever with his music for the masses to appreciate....now , I appreciate what he was doing in these earlier days but he realised (I think ) that he had to dumb down his work to be more commercial , just an opinion. By the way , I think his " work " is grossly underrated and he remains one of my favourite artists.
Agree. I used to really like him when I was young but then kind of forgot about him until now in quarantine I was sent a couple of American Idol judging clips - and I thought, "Wow, he not only knows his music, but he's intelligent." And then started searching him again.
One of kind and the best I can remember for quite some time. And so right on the spot at 2:15 as they breathe life into an already swinging song. Thanks for posting this..never can get enough of this kind of talent. They take a traditional ending and really make it seem like a first time orginal.
I LOVE Harry! His voice has a unique tone and sexy phrasing, that's nothing like Sinatra, but is as equally alluring. Plus, damn, he plays the piano better than, or as good as, Billy Joel. And - no disrespect to Billy - but Harry is a super stud!! Even though Harry has done well for himself, with all he's got going for him, it seems like he should be an astronomic superstar at this point! Honestly, I don't get how Buble even has any sort of a career. The guy has absolutely no personality and he sings like a washed out Sinatra. This is my honest opinion as a listener of music. Every Christmas I hear Buble songs all over the radio and they are boring. Then I go home and play Harry Connick's Christmas music and I'm in heaven! Not just his voice, but more the passion he brings to every arrangement of every song is what makes me FEEL it!!!
God only gives us but so many like you. It is sorrow for all that are not as good of and man as you my friend, Sadly soon time will test you beyond any thing you can imagine ask god for wisdom in these times my friend.
this is all so true. class act. one of a kind, legendary enrertainer. if you get a chance to see him I would recommend it highly. truly the top top level musicianship on sho and you will smile and be moved the entire time.
I think he's copied Mel Torme's style. Rather well actually. Saw him last saturday on Stricktly & he's looking very attractive. The voice has more timbre now just as Franks' did the older he got. Thank you so much for showcasing talent.
Thru headphones, you can hear the stereo separation, especially the hand clapping at 40th. second. Then the drum rolling, the double bass....and so on.
With Covid 19 this number is ripe for the picking! Absolutely nothing wrong with a superb performance by a wonderfully talented artist. I guess he always ran the risk of losing the fans of Nat and Frank when he tried to move in a new direction and hasn't taken them with him which is a shame.
Do you think he lost those fans or did he never have them? I think they're probably just not on TH-cam. Anyway, as you say, music evolves. I don't always like when someone turns a rock song into an acoustic guitar version. There's a reason something was written as a rock song or jazz or whatever. But this doesn't seem like such a drastic move.
Trying to write a jazz song called He's a catch 22 Sounds like the tune "I get no kick from champagne" I write poetry and lyrics to songs Trying to write some jazz songs But its not so easy Alexa Fussell
He was only 22 years old when he did the soundtrack for "When Harry Met Sally". The movie wouldn't have been the genius it is without that music. This guy is so underrated.
He's so smooth. Vividly remember when he first came on the scene in the nineties.
Wow I didn't know he did that!
You know he is so handsome and talented. It's unfair! haha
I totally agree! I sold my Merry Christmas song (that I composed for his voice) to his management company about 30 years ago for 1st rights to record it. Why isn't he more popular today? He's an incredible singer, pianist, jazz artist, arranger and performer. WOW! This is real talent.
+mysweetharmony Cause this style of music is outdated in terms of popularity. No doubting his talent though
+hill I guess I agree with your statement. Today they sing all kind of crap, but not much jazzy swing..... It's too bad.
+hill Michael Buble and Diana Krall ring a bell?
By the way, I watched recently on TV Connick performing in the White House. It means something. Doesn't it?
+mysweetharmony He is still very popular in the jazz world. Every single show I've gone to over the last 20 years have been sold out. One of the most underrated jazz pianist
HIs Piano style is very unique and his voice is like velvet.
I think he must have listened to a lot of Monk

Saw him when he first became popular in 1990. Fantastic live performance. Dude is pure talent.
and, pure class.
he's still popular with me...after 25 years, hell yah! he makes me swoon to this day.
I still sing all of his songs by hart. Day in and out 😍
What does swoon mean?

I've seen almost all of his movies & have all of his albums. No one else can compare to him.

It's wonderful to see younger folks carrying on the genre.
Man, I saw Harry perform in Chicago probably twenty years ago. What a fantastic talent!
Harry is such an extremely accomplished musician. Great talent.
WOW
Wonderful version of a great oldie sung by one of the world's best performers.
From a 70yo Aussie fan.
Just still a jaw-dropping rendition, 30 yrs later. Soooo much confidence for a dude who was prob only 22-23 at the time. 🏆
He was kinda a prodigy and was sitting in with bands as early as like 13-14. By this point he absolutely had been performing for almost a decade.
It doesn't get any better! We love you here in New Orleans Harry!
That upright Bass at 3:58 makes an already great swinging song even better as he closes with this combination of notes. Very Bad Ass!!!
Saw Harry live in Antwerpen and love his show
Great performance Been a fan for years
Bublé is the artist that fans love to love, but Harry is the artist that the artists love to love.
guess that makes me an artist!
Over a period of five days after getting to know Harry and his music, I can say that he is now one of my favorite musicians. He embodies everything I seek in a swing singer, and more :)
+Kansasforlife Ha, I live in Kansas City.
Harry is a REAL talent and very likeable.
Duke Ellington wrote the music and Bob Russell wrote lyrics to " Don't Get Around Anymore". One of the greatest Jazz Standered ever written, Harry Connick Jr is fantastic.
Umas das melhores interpretações que vi dessa música. Simplesmente MARAVILHOSO!!!
This is so incredible - right on the edge the whole time. No doubt they rehearsed this several times, but still, who really knows what happens next.........? Belongs in a music history textbook, sorta.
Voice and timing are very apart, great class, i am touched by Mr. Connick, a great performer !
What can I say? I enjoy the hell out of this guy.
What a great talent-can play anything to perfection (including classical, ragtime, etc.) - and I even ordered a green & black dress his magnificent wife modeled years ago in V/S

Yes, he's a wonderful, talented jazzman !! Gives me so much inspiration to play well too !
He's absolutely the bomb.Love it.
Ator, instrumentista, arranjador, cantor, maestro de orquestra.
Sensacional. Criativo.
Está entre os grandes.
Awesome song, awesome performer!

Harry was always great. I love watching that Bassist going to town back there
I hope he lives a long beautiful life. H'es Wonderful

He is an excellent piano player, also!
thankyou, to my ear this is sophisticated and elegant

You are spot on. This also makes Connick, Jr. and Cole Porter the perfect combination.

Harry Connick Jr. & P!NK are my favorite artists
Harry at this age! The Voice!
I would love hearing a duet with Michael Bublé and Harry Connick Jr.
Duet with Norah Jones would be awesome too.

Smooth..love it!
Jazz perfection!

“Fashion changes but Style endures”
Just brilliant 🤒🍁💕💕💕💕
Great stuff !!!
There will never be another Sinatra, but he works if you listen hard.
Il est de new Orléans, il à baigner dans le blues et le jazz. 😘
So amazing
A haunting little tune ...
1:15. “…me about you.” That “you”! Wow.
Alright Harry, with Count Basie's signature endup!!!
overall talent compared to the "legends," Connick Jr. hands down is the winner!
No! Time to come back! ♥️
I think he's copied Mel Torme's style. Rather well actually. Saw him last saturday on Stricktly & he's looking very attractive. The voice has more timbre now just as Franks' did the older he got. Thank you so much for showcasing talent.
Thank you.
Gold!
Wished H.C.J. would get back in his bag. Instead of television shows.
Converted from VHS Tape. I've been looking for it on the DVD...but so far no luck!!
Perfect!
I even think that Frank Sinatra would have highly approved of this version.
Wonderful---Wonderful=What a superstar
Well done.
His voice is good hear but it got even better with age.
i know i have some of his vhs tapes, i wish they would make dvds or blue rays of them.
фантастика!!!!!!
He must have studied a lot, he is wonderful

Totally! I love watching the musicians. I grew up playing piano and flute. They are so underrated. Always.
Love the song.
I’m to find a backing track can you help out?
Don't around much anymore.
Like Michael Bublé, but with a better voice, more handsome, and can play stride piano. I guess not like Michael Bublé at all...
Oh WHY did you mention the bubble? lol Since you did he sounds a lot like Harry, huh? I agree.
Exactly. And not so full of himself like Michael
Thomas Both are coroners.
@@carmencortelyou9463 I think you mean "crooners"
Yer mum likes Buble.
without Harry ,there is no Michael Bublé
👏🏾👏🏾
2:14 HCJr ( and band arraignment, recognizes Ray.
Booker schooled him well...
He likes squirrel covers!
Subtle to not move but only to music like Harrys'
Willie Nelson doesn’t have a great voice, isn’t handsome, can’t play the piano, but he knocks this song out of the park.
Trying to write a jazz song called

Sounds like the tune
"I get no kick from champagne"
I write poetry and lyrics to songs
Trying to write some jazz songs

Oh why has he not married me??? :)
