    I have existing hardie board. Can this process be followed on top of the existing hardie board? It sounds like hardie board meets the requirement of being the original "wood like" surface. I presume there is plywood underneath the hardie board, home was build in 1983 in Texas.

    So why do you need to use tar paper indoors was thinking lathe would be fine?

    I cringe when there is no drainage mat installed over the feltpaper then wire,all those holes made into feltpaper create leaks from installing felt and wire.,. After 10 years walls turn into mold.Ive fixed numerous 500k houses in the Midwest, 3 years ago they didn't use drainage mat with drip edge at bottom.How do I fix,rip of everything and start over.Everything built pre 2018 with no drainage mat,good chance walls are molding and rotting in high humidity,rainy,snowy environments.

      @@raff9938 You probally just do the installation huh....So after the stone absorbs the water,then absorbs through scratch coat where does it end up?Dry climates im sure there isn't much of an issue,I guess 🙄 thats why the use drainage matt to be done right now days.Have a good day.

      Is that black sheet necessary if it's indoors and installed on drywall?

    • @scottrobinson2286
      @scottrobinson2286 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@oo00Adam00oo no it isn't required,but attaching wire to drywall probally not best idea,because it needs to be tacked to something solid like plywood or atleast screwed with a 1inch washer,or tacked to the studs,otherwise the weight will just rip it from drywall overtime.Black paper is a barrier to keep the moisture from penetrating.

    I cringe when I see them using roofing nails on these fireplaces you must use metal lath screws the roofing nails can work loose also have seen roofing nails used in tile showers on backer board which also makes me cringe. If you can't do it the best way possible then no need to start a project that may fail period.

      I just built a 12 Plex and the owner insisted on using CDX subfloor rather than OSB, now he’s complaining about the price of lumber, when I told him he could save $7000 per floor if he went with OSB which has the same rating. So I guess it depends on how much money you want to spend
