In 1979 I designed a way to put our 7721 Pull Type combine in and out of Transport without leaving the tractor seat. The dealers son farmed next to us, by end of harvest all their customers had them - by next year, the entire province was doing it... Great Design!
Good job Tim and Christy. I made mine permanent, ½" lower as well. It doesn't move much at all when driving over it either way. I bought my roller from John Deere. I have crowns I have to straddle to mow and it keeps it from scalping or getting tore up from the skid plate they have on there. Been thinking of cutting the skid plate off. I was looking at it yesterday and it shouldn't be a problem cutting it off as it's just welded on one side. All the skid plate does is collect grass in it's center. Take care. Levi~~
If I find I have nothing else to do some day, I may try to create another one...lowering it even further, maybe 1.5" or so. We have several 'humps in our yard which really make it difficult for Christy to mow without scalping. When I mow, I am careful to avoid straddling those areas, and if I DO straddle them, I raise the mower deck. ...but admittedly, this is a lot of stuff to think about. Christy prefers to "just mow..."
Nice! I was literally just reading the negative reviews on the John Deere site about how it doesn't come with an anti-scalp which confused me because I've always seen the wheels at each corner. I guess they were referring to the center.
We spent ALL DAY in the shed that day, shooting videos and working on projects (the diesel fuel storage project was the same day). I pay for it by watching lots of HGTV, and spending lots of time in women's clothing stores, etc. It is worth it!
Hi Tim, I think you need to get with the finance committee, and put in a request for two more grinders. One with a flap wheel, the second with a knotted wire wheel. Both are great for deburring and cleaning up after grinding and welding. :-)
Hey Tim , thanks for videos great job man . But i was wondering does your mower make sound as in it don't sound like a lawn mower or is that just the auto connect "driveshaft " sound .Sounds like something is going to fly apart to me kinda clanking sound I just broke my u joint on it today mowing
Hey, I've had it for less than a year. Gimme time, I'll get it stuffed to the brim. Would be interested to hear your guess as to how much $$ these shelves cost me. ..and I bought them legitimately, at a place you could go buy your own today.
So with this new anti scalp roller in place, can ya now disconnect / connect your mower deck without any problems at all? Will ya'll show a demonstration video? Take care & God bless
Wish my hydraulics would hold like yours in my 1025R mine would dump my mower deck in about 30 min. But John Deere says that is normal so they will not fix it under warranty. Hydraulics has been my only complaint on mine.
Tractor Time with Tim yep mine is right at min acceptance. I was just saying I wish mine would hold up like Johnny there. Mine is doing a little better since they replaced the main check valve and the hydraulic pump 2 weeks ago. But still not as good as it was when it was brand new 2 years ago. At about 40 hours the hydraulic suddenly started getting very weak. So I had my dealer do the 50-hour service at 43 hours and these screen was nearly plugged up. And I did the 200 hour service at the 150 hour service and the pump past at cold temperatures. But after it warmed up I could only get about half the pressure in the system that it what's supposed to have. So they replaced the pump and the check valve and readjusted the 3-point hitch valve. The backhoe has been useless for me since about 53 hours due to this hydraulic issue. I was finally able to take it to a different dealer to get this problem resolved. Again this has been my only complained about my John Deere 1025R.
+doug maquad we take the deck off when we do other work. It is SO easy to do. Further, if we forget to do so and mount a 3 pt implement, then we can't remove it after the fact...see our 'sod cutter' video for an example...
Tractor Time with Tim I have a little over an acre of mowable lawn. Mostly flat with a few small side hills. You think the 60 is better? Does it scalp a lot more?
I noticed you were holding the deck up with your loader/forks. Did or do you have any trouble with it leaking down while the tractor isn't running? I purchased my 1025R last September and the loader and backhoe would leak down even with the tractor running. After the dealer took it back to the shop three times it is finally was repaired to my satisfaction that it only leaks slowly when not running. I just wondered if yours was like that. The dealer said they all were like that. Take care and God bless.
Getting ready to get a subcompact, are you still happy with 1025r mowing quality, and do you still recommend adding center roller? Thanks for all your great videos and info!
@@TractorTimewithTim is the 60D any different hard to justify it with the financial department.. that the extra 6" makes that much difference in an overall cut width....🤔
+Alex Barrett it cuts fine. I'm no expert on cut quality so I really don't have the experience to provide a great answer. I think the mulch kit hampers the cut quality a bit (less grass lift) , but tradeoff is worth it for us.
Tim, I'm confused. Your mower should not be scalping at all, ergo no need to modify. Sure would like to see a video of you mowing along with, and this is important, what is your height setting and what are the settings for all four anti scalp wheels. I have the 54" deck on my X758. Even though my lawn is anything but smooth, I never scalp. What about your deck being levelled. Remember, your front blade tip should be 3.2mm less than your side blade mesurement.
I suppose it could be viewed as product placement. Honestly, I was just too lazy to take them down after the August video. However, I guess it does work as a product placement situation. Hi Tim My 54D Mower makes a rattling noise when I engage the PTO and the blades dont spin. The Shaft is fine and the blades turn when I soin the belt by hand. Any Ideas?
@@TractorTimewithTim Thanks for reply. No it’s in the correct position and pto spins but belt and wheels don’t turn and it makes a rattling noise. When I take the deck off I can tun the blades from the pto shaft on the gear box although it seems to slip a little before it engages. I fear the gearbox maybe broken
@@TractorTimewithTim there are two set screws. I tightened them. When I turn the shaft it slips for maybe half a turn but then catches and the pulleys turn. Does that shaft come off or are the set screws maybe not in the right location on inner shaft?
+CJ Phillips Well, it really isn't John Deere quality. I'm sure they spent MANY HOURS debating/struggling on how to solve this issue. In the end, removing the center roller was the best compromise. They didn't want to add another item to latch/unlatch each time, especially way under the center of the mower. So, while I'm willing to compromise with my solution, I'm not sure this would be a good 'general' solution for all users. Make sense. ...and besides...I'm sure they are seeing it now!

+mcinkyt interesting that you guys used pull type combines up there. A 7721 is the same capacity as a 7720 self propelled, right?
Great idea Tim, I was thinking about doing the same thing but you figured it all out for me.

So that's why there's no center scalp wheel. Great info, thanks!

Hmm. That does sound like a plan!
I'm going to do this to my deck asap, thanks for the idea!
+CR Mills please buy the roller from the link on my website! Thanks!
I love the chair in your shop.
The little red/black one?
No that grey lawnchair
Oh, we just brought a couple of chairs in from our lawn furniture. I like to ‘sit around’ :-). These are incredibly comfy!
They look like it, that's why I like it. It's normal to like to sit. I love sitting around when working on stuff.
Good job old boy !!!!!
Another idea is to make it spring tensioned so it just pivots up when enough weight is pushing down on the deck. One less damn pin to remove..😉
Yes. This is how Deere should make it.

Good video! You should sell those in a kit, Tractor Tim's anti scalp wheel lol,
Yea, Christy mentioned that idea. I should probably defer to Ken. Would be a good addition for Ken's bolt-on-hooks.
Do they sell a kit for this?
Can you provide part number for the roller. Or at least the specs
I think in the description. I also think it is in my Amazon store Amazon.com/shop/tractortimewithtim

Tim do you think the 54 is a better option than the 60 for general home mowing?
No. I have had both. Only reason I go the 54 was due to having a tiny yard at the time.

If you are getting a 54d, the center roller is easy to add. I would suggest it.
I have not added one to my 60d, as it is more difficult to do.

It's called product placement!! And it help generate cash flow so they can continue to post vlogs for us to enjoy!

If she is scalping the lawn when mowing raise the deck. I cut at 4" lawn stripes better and looks better.
+nashguy207 we cut very high too. Scalping takes place on humps in the yard
