  • Just got back from a trip and when I got off the plane I discovered my
suitcase handle was broken. Before I purchased a new one, I decided to
examine the handle and see if I could fix it myself and save some
money. Well, I discovered it was a really easy fix. I'll show you how I
    did fixed it.

I agree, not all of them will work the same. The main point about this video is to not give up and just try to figure out how it works. Once you know how it works, then you can commonly fix it. Thank for the post.

I fly every week for work. The screw keeps coming loose on the handle. last week I used 'Lock-tight' on a screw for each of 2 bags. DO NOT DO THIS!! The next time I handled the bags the casing around the screws broke into small pieces. I think the screw is a stress point, and the plastic handle cannot handle the stress.

If the rode is actually jamed inside, and you can't get it out, it may be time for a new suitcase. But it's likely you can figure how to get it out....just try to think about how it's constructed, and back engineer the thing. Thanks for the comment and questions.

you can just use a marker to patch it up all black. - surely quicker than getting a black screw :D =))))

Invece alla mia valigia si è sfilata completamente la maniglia con entrambe le bacchette. Ho notato che si è tolta una molla, dunque deve esserci un meccanismo a scatto all'interno. Grazie

You are a genius! Just returned from a flight from Chicago and my suitcase looked exactly like yours upon arrival. I thought the missing side had broken off in transit and had no idea how to repair it. It would have cost $500 to replace the piece of hand-tooled leather trolley luggage from Paraguay. Then, I found your video and simply followed your instructions. The screw had come out and the metal part would not come up on its own. The fix was so easy and now my favorite bag is back in operation again! Thank you very much for your brilliant revelation!!!

Love this video. Had to laugh because I did the exact same steps as you but I think I am missing a second metal piece. Is it possible that there are two pieces on each side of the handle that telescope? I can't pull the the entire piece up out of the luggage (even if I push the release button on the handle) which leads me to believe I am missing a piece.

    • @touchedbytimeii
      @touchedbytimeii 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Never mind. I figured it out. I had to use the metal rod to release the lock at the bottom of the pole. Thank you. This was very helpful.

Awesome. But not the same problem I am having with a total different thing.. I have a broken handle that would not go all the way up on my SEARS Craftsman Sit/Stand/Tote Truck (look it up to see what I mean). Now I have tried to take it apart or tried to move it all the way up. Could not. Anything I should do without buying a new one that they do not make anymore? Yeah, Sears is about to be gone. I paid for mine the same as if you were buying a expensive set of luggage. I use it for trade shows. So, anybody?

  • @timbaber7003

Before I saw this I could not see a solution with one side staying down. I felt justified to throw away the handle as unreliable and bolted some aluminium three sided angle to extend a suitable handle from a DR49 radio. This got the right height but not didid as the bolts in the alloy just went through a now wobbly lip at the top. I added a scar baseplate of alloy hopefully between the two new bolts through the plastic top lip and two new stainless screws into the two metal sections a few inches below the "break" I made. Of course a fully laden bag in real world use may be too much...I have not tested it yet and I am not yet confident in this improvement..but i saw the bag in a skip, perfect otherwise. Would Dunlop change the spec? I hate seeing perfect goods even if available for under £4 on ebay with an obvious flaw. Luckily I saw in it only a static underbed storage use (with a dodgy handle) and when you remove a faulty part and do what I have done it feels good...because a design that failed once will fail again unless so meting radical is attempted? I console myself this is but a part of evolution in finding a better mouse trap (mixed metaphor) provided Dunlop do better with a revision and write a book about the problems of designing travel luggage. The best designs might get stolen just for the bag of course, but we can all disguise excellence with some tape, a bit of paint and these days a racker device? Not that I know anything, just be like a Freenmason, do not exclude anything up to par, bring it within a quality circle and make something of finding a better way? Take any object in this world..however mature it is in its life cycle, and surely it can be celebrated or if not improved t order, to taste or just by accident with the addition or if you are cheeky, taking away of an offensive element. I am not saying I have done that, but if you study for a few days the old patents from the last 100 years alone, so much has been suggested by so many it bis time we sought the best for those who would serve us, lest they master our ambitions. Dunlop, that is some free stuff please.

I have a folding crate, the button is broken. Two screws beneath the handle release the top part exposing the broken plastic. I cannot find a repair part. I am going to manufacture a piece of aluminum plate to span the entire broken piece drilling the guide holes and producing a strongback, I'll then attach it to the broken part with screws or epoxy which may suffice. A lot of work? yes, parts are not easy to find and I will not let this defeat me.

    • @Anubalfer

If you just mean the rod that you push down on with the button, you can buy and cut a new rod to match the other. If it's the plastic foot or glider, then you have to find a replacement piece for it.
