It's a nice version, but the original version of this song, in my opinion, is a masterpiece...gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. Doesn't matter who sings it though...too bad more people don't take the message to heart. Some of the most meaningful lyrics ever.
Beautiful Song written by one of the best artist in this century. Carrie did a great job, but you do not need to run down GM! He has an amazing voice and has written amazing songs.
If I'd never heard George Michael singing Praying For Time I may have liked this version, but all I can think of is "stop shouting, Carrie!" I'm so glad George turned up to show people how beautiful his own song actually is.
& this is once again why carrie underwood is my favorite& my idol all among others, it's simply because she can take a song & deliver it in a way i'm not sure many others can, & she feels what she sings. The most classy woman in the industry of country music, which i am a huge fan of, she was a born a star, & i love her.
When I heard her perform his on Idol Gives Back, I was blown away by her delivery. After hearing Michael come onto Idol last week, it's made it harder to listen to this version now. Michael wasn't at his best but still delivered with strength and passion. After his Idol performance, my kids are now insisting on me taking them to his San Jose concert in 3 weeks time. I'll have to take out a bank loan now but we've been wanting to catch a true musician's concert together. See you in SJ!
She's unbeatable. She's the best American Idol ever. And she's one of the top artists of the world. No one can hold this girl down. She's aiming for the top!
I would just like to say that when she starts to cry on the 2nd verse saying " cause he has no children to come back for", that really touched me. she is an amazing singer. With emotion and her roots definitly show in this song.
this song touches me so much. it makes me wanna cry. i like it when both her and george sing it. its such a beautiful song. we should all pray for time. God doesnt keep score of our sins. dont make it so God has no children to come back for. that would be sooo horrible.
George Michael is quoted "No event inspired the song. It's my way of trying to figure out why it's so hard for people to be good to each other. The media has affected everybody's consciousness much more than most people will admit. Because of the media, the way the world is perceived is as a place where resources and time are running out. We're taught that you have to grab what you can before it's gone. It's almost as if there isn't time for compassion."
I believe Carrie is the best Idol ever. She outdid herself. This performance was on Idol Gives back and is so true to what is happening in the world today. Last year she went to the needy and sang I'll Stand By You another one I love.
this song made me cry. It was so touching, the part where it spoke to me was when she said " excuses, the rich declare themselves poor ". It's so true, some people in society today who actually have money, always want more, and never want to give to anyone who's less fortunite. It sickens me to see these children go through this when they don't need to. I defently think we need to open our eyes and think of others instead of ourselves.
i think the evident emotion that she feels while singing always comes through. She is real, and wonderful, and not an "act". I could watch her sing this song over and over and i never get enough of the raw feelings shinning through.
Amazing for the beginning to the end!! Strong content the lyrics but great combination of music and of course voice. Carrie suprises us once more and we cheer for her again. Well done. We need more than 5 stars....
I have to agree. She's just singing/performing it very well (possibly over singing it). When George does it, live or studio, you can FEEL it. It makes a difference. And he doesn't have to yell.
great version, she really does put her all into it! George Michael is still the king of that song though.... he feels it through and through because he wrote it... he has that connection to a song that only the author can really have. Carrie did him proud though!
GM ownes this song, He also has many versions of the song. he has wrote many great songs that are still on the radio today. carrie underwood got her start from a a singing show where they had to pick the best of the worst GM got his start because he has talent .
Carrie is good in her Carrie way, but after hearing George sing it on Idol! Oh my gosh, he is so wonderful. He brings so much more emotion to this song....
Love them both, but Carrie by far gave life to this song and gave it the justice it deserves and demands. For whomever wrote this song, it must have been quite the spiritual experience to feel it writing itself - being the vessel it came through. I haven't had the pleasure of experiencing a song like this in years. Props to Carrie.
George Michael would not give a damn about being compared with someone at the start of their show biz career! He is mature enough, and gentlemanly enough, to give both his talents and creativity to such shows as this...
Being from the UK, I have no idea who this woman is but to even compare this rendition to George Michael is madness. She screeches her way through this song, it reminds me of the noise of fingernails running down the blackboard! Watch George Michaels Unpluggged version to see how it should be done.
It was beyond incredible! Brilliant, breathtaking, so emotionally moving. She cried at the end and made me cry too! to the bunny person who said she didn't connect with the song- you are out to lunch. seriously. How is crying, not connecting with the song? laughable....Carrie- you were amazing!!!!
Carrie has won 30 awards in 2 1/2 years including three Grammy's and one for Best New Artist all genre - and has sold almost 10 million albums in 2 1/2 years and that's pretty amazing in this day of illegal downloading - that's because she has great fans who believe in her and they don't have to tear other singers down- Carrie is a very sweet and honorable person who loves to see her fellow artists succeed and her fans are the fans of many artists
Seriously this performance is probably one of the best I have ever heard. This live performance was a big honor to the original. No joke I thought it was beautiful and you know it yourself. Your just to high and mighty to admit it.
i think she did an incredible job. she has one of the most amazing voices i have ever heard. she could sing the phonebook backwards and it would be absolutely flawless! :) and it also doesn't hurt that she's honestly the most beautiful woman i have ever seen in my entire LIFE!
i couldnt imagine being her mom. for years youre little girls just goin to college and helping at home... and then the next year...she wins the most popular show in america and now she's EVERYWHERE
I am stunned as to how many people disliked this performance. I watched this show with my neighbors for IGB and one of the neighbors started crying because they said she sang it beautifully. This woman is such an amazing talent and I want to say this to the people bashing this performance: get a hearing aide then go hide in a hole. This song was meant to send a message to help the needy. She performed it great and sent a clear message that people in the world need help. Shame on you all.
As always, an incredible performance. The song was so perfect for Idol Gives Back, and Carrie did it beautifully. This performance, in my opinion, was second only to Carrie version of San Antonio Rose at the 2007 Grammys. 9.9/10
Just listen to the words and appreciate that George wrote it & Carrie sings it with so much feeling. They are both beautiful people and talented artist. Even though the song was written years ago... it's still holds true today.
one of the best live vocals i've ever heard. she's so amazing. this song is awesome too. check out the other versions mentioned in comments, they're all good. such a great song.
A beautiful song by George Michael. This was a truely inspirational performance. She sang a song to make us think and she did it with such great talent and passion. Thank you Carrie.
this is incredible. It gives me chills every time. There's so much feeling when she sings, it's beyond amazing. THE best idol ever. wow this is indescribable
carrie's performance along with the plain arrangement suited the lyrics almost better than the original, she really put her heart into the song. been watching it over and over again, simply stunning. love her!
i luved that way she sang it, powerful when needed, fragile when needed, the anger, the pleading was all there for this song! as for AbusedLiver's opinion, i think we've gotten so used to seeing drama queens/kings acting all emotional on this medium that we've stopped listening to the magical pauses between the notes and the expression of the eyes.
I'm SO glad George Michael came on American Idol to show everyone the real soul of this song. -HIS song! I recommend you look for his TH-cam video called, "Praying for Time Unplugged." GM is breathtaking!
Its really hard to sing like that and be sitting down, she is phenominal! She gives me chills...she puts soooo much emotion into what she sings and thats what makes a great singer...true emotion!
As much as I like her version, I feel that this performance is still more about "her" and not the actual song. The song is so powerful...and that's what it's about, of course. I still give kudos to the more subdued version, but both are great.
When Carrie did this song, it brought tears to my eyes. Yes, kudos to George Michael for putting the song out there, he is an amazing artist. But the way Carrie put this together vocally is nothing less than astonishing. We all must face the facts that George Micheal is getting older and is not who he used to be. I listened to both his and Carrie's version live on idol (they both preformed this song live in 2008) & I felt as though Carrie was the one who really sent out the song's strong message
She is one of the most talented singers out there (in my opinion). She puts so much emotion into her vocal performances, and sounds great live (hardly anyone sings live anymore so that's rare). LOVE her!
Then I'm not the only one! Many have continued to grasp/regrasp the mic in her wake! It must be a "new" thing! Also, I don't think people are "jealous" who give reviews that some may not agree with. She has a nice voice, is a lovely woman and has on a beautiful dress! I comment on her voice (belting/straining) because she should protect it, so that she may sing for the enjoyment of listeners as long as possible. "Poor" "Sure" in the lyrics are strained, forced in her chest voice.
No disrespect Miss Carrie, but as much as this is a lovely ballad, it isn't meant to be screamed, but rather, whispered. This song holds A very deep message.
Carrie is a superb vocalist, and yes,she nails this song! But George Michael--as well as a gifted vocalist---is a prodigious composer whose work will prove to be immortally referenced by generations curious to discover what Pop Genius truly means.
I dont get why people are hating this version. Come on, it's really gooood. Cant stop listening.
Carrie did a great job. ..I'm sure George was happy...may he rest in peace with God...
Hands down one of the best live vocal performances ever.
So poignant. The recession was just getting started. Blew me away. She could have been a great RnB singer.
Carrie - the ultimate Songbird as well as beautiful inside and out - what a combination! I get chills everytime I listen/watch this video! Thank you!
It's a nice version, but the original version of this song, in my opinion, is a masterpiece...gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. Doesn't matter who sings it though...too bad more people don't take the message to heart. Some of the most meaningful lyrics ever.

Amazing how different this version is.....yet the same passion is captured!....amazing song...Carrie AND George!!!
& this is once again why carrie underwood

never have i ever heard a more beautifully written song .. this is phenomenal

She's unbeatable. She's the best American Idol ever. And she's one of the top artists of the world. No one can hold this girl down. She's aiming for the top!
crying omg carrie is perfection this is the most amazing thing i have ever heard
it's a hard pill to swallow, but still fitting song for the occasion. i got teary when her emotions took over her voice. amazing rendition!
I would just like to say that when she starts to cry on the 2nd verse saying " cause he has no children to come back for", that really touched me. she is an amazing singer. With emotion and her roots definitly show in this song.
no words could possibly describe that performance but this is about as close as you can get. incredible.
this song touches me so much. it makes me wanna cry. i like it when both her and george sing it. its such a beautiful song. we should all pray for time. God doesnt keep score of our sins. dont make it so God has no children to come back for. that would be sooo horrible.

❤🎉🎉WOW YOU GOT. ME GOING GORGEOUS LOVE IT SWEETHEART 🌹🌹THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR US JON🌹💯🌹💯
GM blows this version out of the water. Love Carrie, and man can she sing , country is her place. Love ya Carrie, but GM wins this round...
she sounds so lovely! wat a wonderful voice and such a great message!
This is amazing. A message we all need to hear!
this was incredible. she has one of the most beautiful voices ever. it was god given for sure!
i think the evident emotion that she feels while singing always comes through. She is real, and wonderful, and not an "act". I could watch her sing this song over and over and i never get enough of the raw feelings shinning through.
I remember this episode, i was crying through out the whole thing :(
Absolutely the best artist that has ever come from American Idol. Simply Stunning. :)
this has to be one of her best performances. great job, carrie. this is simply amazing
I can't believe Carrie picked this song. This is one of my favorite GM songs and she does it brilliantly! I love Carrie Underwood!!!!!! bravo!
Amazing for the beginning to the end!! Strong content the lyrics but great combination of music and of course voice. Carrie suprises us once more and we cheer for her again. Well done. We need more than 5 stars....
This is my favorite performance by Carrie Underwood, ever..
Thanks for posting it..
I have to agree. She's just singing/performing it very well (possibly over singing it). When George does it, live or studio, you can FEEL it. It makes a difference. And he doesn't have to yell.
wow jesus christ.
this song makes me love Carrie more and more.
i can't stop falling in love with her voice and music.
This is the themesong of the world right now. Period.
FANTASTIC!! Carrie did an amazing, emotional, and beautiful job!!
great version, she really does put her all into it! George Michael is still the king of that song though.... he feels it through and through because he wrote it... he has that connection to a song that only the author can really have. Carrie did him proud though!
I just can't stop listening this, please someone make me stop.
Just listen to George's version and then this one will sound rather irrelevant.
For me, this is the definitive version of this song.

What a voice she has. My God, this song gives me chills. She is so awesome
Prachtig gezongen Carrie! Kreeg kippevel.. RIP George Michael
Nice job, I like Carrie, but nothing compares to George. He has a voice like no one else. Amazing.
what a great song...sung by a great singer. thnx for posting.

Whoa! Beautiful ... R.I.P. George Michael ....
i think she did an incredible job. she has one of the most amazing voices i have ever heard. she could sing the phonebook backwards and it would be absolutely flawless! :) and it also doesn't hurt that she's honestly the most beautiful woman i have ever seen in my entire LIFE!

Tutti gli elementi sono al suo posto. La voce il suo suono poi la tua bellezza rende il tutto sublime. Grazie di ❤️
She is an amazing talent and I was so happy when she won Idol.
She does a great justice to this song, vocally amazing as usual from her
As always, an incredible performance. The song was so perfect for Idol Gives Back, and Carrie did it beautifully. This performance, in my opinion, was second only to Carrie version of San Antonio Rose at the 2007 Grammys. 9.9/10

NO ONE can ever top the original! George Michael is the BEST and truly ONE OF A KIND!!! :)
WOW!! I was blown away by her beautiful rendition of George Michaels song!!! Gave me goosebumps!!!!!!!!!! SHE IS A STAR!!!!
one of the best live vocals i've ever heard. she's so amazing. this song is awesome too. check out the other versions mentioned in comments, they're all good. such a great song.
A beautiful song by George Michael. This was a truely inspirational performance. She sang a song to make us think and she did it with such great talent and passion. Thank you Carrie.
Absolutely wonderful. A great rendtion of a classic song,
this is incredible. It gives me chills every time. There's so much feeling when she sings, it's beyond amazing. THE best idol ever. wow this is indescribable
this song gets me every time.
so does i'll stand by you.
I got goosebumps listening to this. Watching her expression, seems like she really felt the emotion of this song.
carrie's performance along with the plain arrangement suited the lyrics almost better than the original, she really put her heart into the song. been watching it over and over again, simply stunning. love her!

AMEN SISTA!! That was awesome and you are the best! Keep it up cant wait for another CD .. love ya Carrie!
shes amazing...and its so beautiful when you notice her about to cry...very touching
Seems I have to watch this everyday - incredible performance
Omg i've listened to it so may times!!!
it's just so nice!!!
wow, literally the perfect song for this event. Carrie in incredible and I dunno if another Idol will ever be as talented as she is.

The best Tribute to George Michael!Perfect work!
Absolutely stunning performance in every way.
I'm SO glad George Michael came on American Idol to show everyone the real soul of this song. -HIS song! I recommend you look for his TH-cam video called, "Praying for Time Unplugged." GM is breathtaking!

Carrie is amazing!
She's beatiful and your voice is sweet.
I love her.
Before Kelly Clarckson, she's the best winner of American Idol.
i fill up every time i listen to this! Amazing.

yeah! we should give thanks to GEORGE MICHAEL for creating this piece of art back in 1990 and actually was a #1 hit...
Did u notice how she said Amen at the end of the song. SO beautiful, thats when you know you sang a really good song, it feels like a prayer :)
She is one of the most talented singers out there (in my opinion). She puts so much emotion into her vocal performances, and sounds great live (hardly anyone sings live anymore so that's rare). LOVE her!
amaaaazing vocals. Screw the haters. Carrie u'll always be the the most amaaazing singer i've evr heard. U make evrything sound goood!!!
No one but George Michael should be allowed to sing this song, because only he can do it justice.
Absolute perfection. She nailed it and with class
Heavenly! Thank you for this song!
This is good, george's version it s a masterpiece. I like in the original tune
this is amazing..I heard the original when I was very young and was in love with it...and I must say that Carrie did justice to the song
Then I'm not the only one! Many have continued to grasp/regrasp the mic in her wake! It must be a "new" thing!
Also, I don't think people are "jealous" who give reviews that some may not agree with. She has a nice voice, is a lovely woman and has on a beautiful dress! she looks beautiful and sounds amazing! Carrie is one of the best winners!
