    Mike Leach winning 59.7% of his games at Texas Tech, Washington State, and Mississippi State is super impressive. It’s infuriating that dying of a heart attack is what’s preventing him from being a Hall of Famer.

      But he wasn't GREAT and that's the whole point of a HOF... Great guy maybe, but 'just' a darn good coach is not HOF coach... We can't water everything down when people die, it hurts awards more than it helps - even if it feels good

    Howard not being eligible is very awful. Decorated Assistant Coach, Decorated Coordinator, and as a Head Coach made the University of Miami into the powerhouse it would truly become in the 80's and 90's. Without Howard, that School is still massively irrelevant in the landscape.

    I think a simple fix here on the player side is that being a Heisman finalist(theres 10 every year) is an exemption to the AA criteria. Like you're either an AA OR you're a top 10 Heisman finalist. It is a quick fix that would allow all the players who weren't AA who would have otherwise made it on the merits to make it. Coachings another thing but for players this would fix the problem.

    • @RoadTo19
      @RoadTo19 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's an interesting point. It could be extended to winning the position award, too. Particularly since the Heisman is a QB award.

So just did that because I’m very true, serious & happy to tell others that really claim to have their favorite sport …Collegiate!!! You’re always called great! Thank you for still being the most accurately plus excited with plenty of love of college football 🏈!! You’re interview with Nic Sabin in my top 10!!

    Performance/accolade based qualifiers for something that people are going to vote for anyway are silly but I don't have a problem with coaches having to coach a certain amount of time but it should account for their entire coaching career and not just head coaching- someone like Erk Russell should get credit for his time as a DC which undoubtedly contributes to the entirety of his coaching legacy. Likewise, Pete Carroll should be able to count his 10 years as a college assistant to his head coaching years and easily clear the bar.

    There's a difference between professional sports and college sport hall of fames. Namely, the number of possible candidates is exponentially higher at the college level. I don't necessarily agree with all the standards, but there needs to be standards. Instead of changing/modifying the 60% win percentage, maybe include a revolutionary/significant impact on the sport.

    What is crazy is if Jimbo Fisher's tenure at A&M were 10 years (like originally planned) and he maintained his record exactly as it was he would be qualified for the HOF. Shows how that 60% winning percentage is a bit dumb.

    Firstly, I love your show and the way you present it. Second, I agree that the criteria should be changed, and Bennett should be up for consideration. However, after taking a week to think about it, I wouldn't vote for him. He was a really good, but not elite QB that benefited greatly from the team he was on, not unlike A.J. McCarron. I think there were 6 or 7 other QBs who would have won the same games he did. To me, HOF players should be elite independent of their team. While that is impossible to quantify, I think there are other candidates in his era at his position that are more deserving (namely Young, Daniels, Williams, and Stroud).

    Fine, I'll say it: No one was calling Mike Leach a HOF coach, or talking about him half at all until he passed.
    Seems like he was a great guy, and a pretty cool coach, but he was always "just a solid coach". That isn't what I want HOF to be, and this currently sounds like when rappers die and suddenly get popular or people pretend they're more than just pretty good all of a sudden.

      I disagree because he may have never had the success of Saban or Meyers, but he helped change the sport of college football.
