When you leave the traffic circle you are on Main St. This used to be part of the Trans Canada Highway. At the West end, where you turn right because of all the marinas the TCH continued onto a wooden bridge which spanned the channel and ran into the rock face where it made a hard turn to the North. As you drive North on Riverside Ave. the big red building on your left used to be the firehall and we played bingo in there Thursday evenings. The first houseboat rental to open in Sicamous was Twin Anchors Marina which started operation on the Shuswap River in Enderby where they had a plant to build the houseboats. Plans at that time were to connect Mara Lake via a canal through Enderby and Armstrong to the Okanagan Lake. This never happened and Twin Anchors couldn't get their houseboats up and down the river during periods of low water, so they moved to Sicamous. Where you went under the TCH bridge and parked, directly in front of you is a public beach. If you walk north along the beach there is a pedestrian bridge that will take you over to more public beach in the subdivision you will drive through later and talk about the houses facing the lake. At the far end where you turned around is the River Front Nature Park.
Thank you for composing and sharing this video. I periodically visit my Salmon Arm in-laws (summertime) and travel through Three Valley Gap and Revelstoke, of course, but I've not been into Sicamous itself so the views and commentary made for an enjoyable and informative introduction to me. I appreciate the video's technical qualities: the steady long shots, camera position (which seems roof-top vs. the usual dash cam perspective), optical clarity and unobtrusive background track.
Thank you for the kind words Don. I'm very happy you were able to join me on the journey. I tried a few different things with the audio early on but since then I've made an effort to use the same audio levels for the three different tracks: road noise, music and voice. My family members will tell me if something isn't to their liking. Technology in modern cameras these days is incredible. The built in image stabilization software in my camera gets the credit for making a car mounted video like this watchable. I added a polarized filter and a swivel mount to level the horizon as much as I could. I've got more videos coming out soon. Thanks again for watching!
I remember when I was younger my grandparents and my sister and mom stayed in a really neat place. It was like a cabin but different ones and we had a kitchen downstairs and stone fireplace and then upstairs we had 3 bedrooms and me and my sister had the room with a bunk bed and it was right on the lake and we could see float planes come and go. Everyone that stayed there had a bon fire and roated marshmellows. I can not remember the name of the place. It was neat as if my mom and grandpa went out I would go to the end of the gate and watch them come back. I wish I could remember it
I love that place I’m going there in 11 days thanks for sharing 😊
B.C. is one of the most beautiful and diversified places in the world. Absolutely gorgeous.
