Nick I’ve been following this channel for over a decade. I don’t do the budo arts but love your entertaining explanations on the principles that underpin martial arts. Love you man, from canada 🇨🇦
Ueshiba was a high priest in the Omoto Kyo cult and Ueshiba stated in his book that the physical teachings of Ai ki do was not for fighting but for exercise only. Yet we looked the other way when he said that. And we disagreed with O'sensei as we kept insisting Aikido is a fighting art. Then when aikido masters get dominated by wrestlers, jiujitsuteros, Judokas and MMA athletes we make excuses. When I left aikido to train daito ryu I learned they were not the same, as aikidoka claim, and I found daito ryu is for combat and aikido is exactly what O'sensei claimed Aikido was: physical exercise program for the Omoto Kyo cult. Can you learn self defense from aikido? More people die annually by falling in their home than by street fights. Ukemi is a valuable self defense art.
People make the mistake of confusing Aikido as a form of fighting. It is physically impossible to fight and do Aikido at the same time - you can switch between fighting and Aikido but you cannot do both simultaneously. Aikido is a martial art that works with the Aikido defender who is physically uniting in harmony with an aggressor who is fighting. It is nonsensical to try to rely on Aikido to win a fight within a fighting sport - the sport has rules in place that mandate fighting and the Aikido defender cannot physically fight when they try to do Aikido.
Hi, Carl. We tried it a long time ago, but haven't had one in well over a decade. Most martial arts schools focus on the kids programs; we chose to focus on the over-18 contingent :)
We need more Judo and Aikido videos with Nick Lowry
I love watching windsong dojo videos especially from Sensei Lowry. I'm a nidan in Judo and his footsweep Curriculum videos have helped me tremedously

“I don’t know what the point of that was….I hope it was mildly entertaining…but it’s lunch time”. Thanks
Howdy Nick, this is James in Ventura
With the language, I'm guessing Windsong doesn't have a kids program anymore.
