Amazing doors , love them , with a cordless drill hammer and chisel drill bits and like you hand screw driver , I could do a Chubb five lever mortise lock in 12 minutes and that’s with the striking plate and never had one bad Chubb lock .

Why I had to make sure all the screws were straight up & down, He told me it was to stop dust gathering in the screws on sockets/switches/anything. 🤦🏼♂️ I believed that for years and I mean years! I'd no reason to doubt his word! But hey I still do it to this day 😂 Just incase you get a big build up of dust 🤣

Quote..... Domestic and non domestic 'openings-main or subsidiary 'prevailing/ regional climate should be considered along with screening or protection, canopy, covered way, porch arrangements and or vestibule to prevent heat loss, close quote. In Scotland even Planning has decided to 'take an interest' in door or openings. Strange people getting involved. NHBC have been know to comment. Still we shall soon be out of Europe and the weather is so much more friendly to us down south. No problem with the doors , interesting construction just watch out for the heat police but then the next Climate conference is in Glasgow some time in the future . I was also taught to flat head vertical. Trouble nowadays is that in some cases its impossible to get that vertical alignment with machined bolts and sockets.

There’s always something special about a beautiful piece of hand-made custom work. The more I spend time with the trades and understand the value of experience and something unique, the more I realise it’s priceless. It’s never quite as expensive as it seems when you factor in the day rate, which is of course entirely reasonable.

Lovely doors. I've worked for a door manufacturer for 13 years now and it's very expensive what you have paid for your materials! Probably because it's one off purchases. The only thing I'd have done if it were my doors were to use a Winkhaus Bluematic multipoint electronic lock. Worth checking them out

Those doors have come out really well. That’s inexcusable customer service and quality considering how much those locks cost. When I was living in London you could tell if you were in a nice area if all the doors had Banham locks haha.

Hi robin , lovely job, never seen those hinges before, remind of SOSS hinges, Also robin that type of dimple cylinder lock is very vulnerable to impressing . Which I’m not going to talk to much about, I know you’re a joiner like the famous joiner Joseph Brahma who saw the weakness in cylinder locks. Two hundred years ago, . BANHAM need to up there game to stop this really easy form of mechanical impressing.

Worth every penny. I paid £2400 for a rockdoor composite half that size with a couple of half fan lights and its garbage. The bespoke aspect is on another level.

Just finished watching this as I am a new sub, surprisingly I had the exact same issue with a electronic lockset I installed recently no female threading I ended up tapping it as the client had purchased it online and there was a issue returning them, (they wouldn't take it back!).We have a fellow over here whom has a utube channel called the lock picking lawyer maybe you should send him a banham lock since he gets 750k average views per vid : }.

Absolutely stunning! When factoring the costs you have 2 doors here. Most average upvc companies supply and fit 1 composite front door for around £2000 mark. This including labour is extremely good value for money. I'd even say those doors are an appreciating asset! You're a very wise man Robin. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

I'm just wondering (or is it an optical illusion?) why the door knobs aren't equally spaced apart? The right one looks like its close the edge of the door and the left one looks 50mm back from the edge of the door. Was just wondering is there a specific reason for this?

These look great Robin, I always learn something when I watch your videos and the quality of your workmanship speaks or itself. I think it’s worth talking about price of labour as what you actually charge. I make bespoke furniture and joinery myself and it’s very hard to get prices right. A factory built quality front door and frame can cost £4K plus, and I’m always having to quote “cheaper” when it takes me longer to copy, I don’t have the equipment the factory does and the customer doesn’t factor in the locks and the fitting to the cost, if you charge £300 a day fir your joinery then please state that. It helps put work of quality in perspective. Keep the videos coming, I really get a lot of enjoyment from learning from them.
Top quality content. I like the design and layout of your build. It would be nice to see a rough floor plan of the building without compromising any security concerns. I’m looking for room layout ideas for my own property build in Shropshire.

Outstanding carpentry. Expensive but cost is irrelevant when you have a vision. It’s worth every penny to get exactly what you want and what better way to spend time in lockdown. The only bit that surprised me was that you were bonding the handles on rather than having a hidden screw/Allen bolt fixing from underneath to hold them on. You never know when the wife will want new door handles 😂😂
Bad luck with that fascia,Banham locks are great, very helpful. I just go direct to shop in Guildford could not have been more helpful. Very nice positive click when closing the door.
Gorgeous set of doors there Robin, and really great that you went to extra effort and expense to make the entrance of your home something special. They are not really expensive when you consider a bog standard composite door would cost a couple of grand and you've got two!!. Shame the inside escutcheon plate screws cant be dressed, but I don't suppose its possible with machine threaded screws. You must have had your Weetabix the morning you hung them. @@ukconstruction Hi Robin. Nothing booked just yet but I was planning to train at Able Skills in Dartford. Heard nothing but positive things about them! An apprenticeship would be lovely but unfortunately it's just not realistic. I've done a short introductory course elsewhere to get a taste for it and it feels like something I'd really enjoy doing. I've wanted a career change for a while now and I feel like learning a trade is something I should have done from the start! But even just learning for its own sake would suit me still! Just saving some money first and convincing myself to take the plunge 🙂

To follow up to my previous comment, I’ve had the Banham M2002 lock on my front door for 9 years now and it’s just started to become very difficult/impossible to unlock/lock with the key on the inside. The problem? There’s a very small ball bearing that engages in a hole when the key is at the extreme rotation (this gives the “click” effect once you’ve fully locked/unlocked it). This ballbearing seemed to have seized up and needed lubricating. You can see this hole if you remove the lock barrel (i.e the barrel that you put the key into) from the main lock housing. You then need to spray some “dry lubricant” into this hole. In fact there’s 2 holes. If you look inside the hole as you start to rotate the key you can see the ballbearing I’m referring to. Start to rotate it with the key in the lock so that the ballbearing just starts to move out the way and give it another squirt. I also sprayed inside each of the key pins on both sides and also inside the main key hole. My lock works like new again :-) The lubricant is called RS High Performance Dry Lubricant (251-3794) and is the lubricant that Banham recommend to use. Banham also sell it as “lock lubricant”. Just thought I’d share this with you in case it starts to get stiff later on.
I agree 100% on using hand tools to install door hardware! its always hard to put a price on ones passion they have for work....but bills do need paid....
Nailed the price 1st shot. Odd you used wood for attaching the pulls. Not sure if the wood will hold rough usage. The locks are independent? So someone has to do both locks with a key?

One thing I would get a kicking for when I was an apprentice was if I didn’t leave flat head screws at 6 o’clock 😂😂 love the doors and your work

Robin apply your expert tendencies into video making, doesnt have to be expensive, a shirt mic and a decent camera will allow you to put across your great content better, i really enjoy your videos and also enjoy the fact you clearly adore your craft.

These look great Robin, I always learn something when I watch your videos and the quality of your workmanship speaks or itself. I think it’s worth talking about price of labour as what you actually charge. I make bespoke furniture and joinery myself and it’s very hard to get prices right. A factory built quality front door and frame can cost £4K plus, and I’m always having to quote “cheaper” when it takes me longer to copy, I don’t have the equipment the factory does and the customer doesn’t factor in the locks and the fitting to the cost, if you charge £300 a day fir your joinery then please state that. It helps put work of quality in perspective.
Keep the videos coming, I really get a lot of enjoyment from learning from them.

Outstanding carpentry. Expensive but cost is irrelevant when you have a vision. It’s worth every penny to get exactly what you want and what better way to spend time in lockdown. The only bit that surprised me was that you were bonding the handles on rather than having a hidden screw/Allen bolt fixing from underneath to hold them on. You never know when the wife will want new door handles 😂😂
The doors look amazing and the hardware sets them off perfectly.

Gorgeous set of doors there Robin, and really great that you went to extra effort and expense to make the entrance of your home something special. They are not really expensive when you consider a bog standard composite door would cost a couple of grand and you've got two!!. Shame the inside escutcheon plate screws cant be dressed, but I don't suppose its possible with machine threaded screws. You must have had your Weetabix the morning you hung them. @@ukconstruction Hi Robin. Nothing booked just yet but I was planning to train at Able Skills in Dartford. Heard nothing but positive things about them! An apprenticeship would be lovely but unfortunately it's just not realistic. I've done a short introductory course elsewhere to get a taste for it and it feels like something I'd really enjoy doing. I've wanted a career change for a while now and I feel like learning a trade is something I should have done from the start! But even just learning for its own sake would suit me still! Just saving some money first and convincing myself to take the plunge 🙂

To follow up to my previous comment, I’ve had the Banham M2002 lock on my front door for 9 years now and it’s just started to become very difficult/impossible to unlock/lock with the key on the inside. The problem? There’s a very small ball bearing that engages in a hole when the key is at the extreme rotation (this gives the “click” effect once you’ve fully locked/unlocked it). This ballbearing seemed to have seized up and needed lubricating.
You can see this hole if you remove the lock barrel (i.e the barrel that you put the key into) from the main lock housing. You then need to spray some “dry lubricant” into this hole. In fact there’s 2 holes. If you look inside the hole as you start to rotate the key you can see the ballbearing I’m referring to. Start to rotate it with the key in the lock so that the ballbearing just starts to move out the way and give it another squirt. I also sprayed inside each of the key pins on both sides and also inside the main key hole. My lock works like new again :-)
The lubricant is called RS High Performance Dry Lubricant (251-3794) and is the lubricant that Banham recommend to use. Banham also sell it as “lock lubricant”. Just thought I’d share this with you in case it starts to get stiff later on.

Nailed the price 1st shot. Odd you used wood for attaching the pulls. Not sure if the wood will hold rough usage. The locks are independent? So someone has to do both locks with a key?
