    Jesus, what an action packed episode.
    Gear Down for What vs Snappy was a blast. It is like seeing two 4 year old children loaded up with caffeine!
    Also poor Phoenix, to lose to the same robot twice in the same way must hurt. Gotta say tho the evisceration of Snappy was neat.
    Finally Splodeyboi. What can I say other than be careful who you call weak in middle school.
    All robots put on one heck of a show, and I can't wait for next heat :)

    Okay, so Snappy gets ejected for having a battery out during the losers melee, but Gear Down For What Is allowed to have his hanging out the back the entire match?
    Edit: everyone seems to have their own opinion on whether all bots should be immediately ejected on exposure of a lipo or of it should be a case by case risk assessment. I think it's a rule that favors bots with active weapons over bots that don't. I fundamentally believe there should not be any rules in place that have rulings in favor of one type of bot over another. I think this is a great case example of Snappy getting the wrong end of this subjective ruling 2 times.

    • @dragonsteincole
      @dragonsteincole 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I think the situations are a little different, Snappy was stranded on the wall with its Lipo all the way out the bot, with Phoenix spun up to full right next to it. I think in that case the chance of the Lipo being punctured and there being a fire was much higher than the first match. Maybe not ideal in the first match, but definitely the sensible thing to do in the second.

    • @RayLopezBTownSting
      @RayLopezBTownSting 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dragonsteincole I just think it should be consistent across all matches regardless of situation, if the li-po falls out of where it's suppose to be and is exposed bot should be ejected.

    • @dragonsteincole
      @dragonsteincole 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@RayLopezBTownSting Having just watched the fight back again, it's loose within the robot with about 1:10 left. But I wouldn't say it's out of the robot and exposed until the last few seconds of the fight where it is inverted, and the fight ends a few seconds afterwards anyway. Might be a case of lucky timing in that regard, but otherwise the lipo is certainly not hanging out the back for the entire match, and never in an obviously risky manner as happened in the Snappy match.

    • @jonathandixon2896
      @jonathandixon2896 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The question being asked in every case is - "Is there an immediate danger of a lipo breach/fire?"
      The answer against Gear Down - No. There was no immediate or direct danger to the battery getting damaged in that situation, even if it was a little loose. There's nothing in the arena that could directly cause a fire.
      The answer with Phönix - Yes. There's a high KE spinning weapon in the immediate vicinity and the battery is immediately exposed/prone to being hit. Especially accidentally.
      Same thing happened last year with Flick. Their fight with Rev II was cut short as there was an immediate danger of the battery getting damaged given the weapons that were present. It's less an issue of "If battery is loose, cancel fight" and more a case of "If battery in danger of exploding in current situation, then halt fight for safety".

    • @RayLopezBTownSting
      @RayLopezBTownSting 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@dragonsteincole I just lean to the side that it should be an objective not subjective ruling. I've attended tournaments where the rule is once a li-po is exposed/outside the bot/not where its suppose to be that calls for an immediate dq regardless of the subjective risk assessment.
      Rules that call for immediate dq after a lipo is exposed only encourages bot builders to be more mindful of how they mount and secure their li-pos and reduces risk overall. Gear Down For What even mentions how his battery is damaged at the end of the match and needs to switch it out. Even minor damage and shorts can cause a lipo fire.

  • @JspoonG
    @JspoonG 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Btw i have no idea how could somebody score battle for Snappy vs Gear Down, Snappy was mostly... confused and just waiting for hit to receive. Being less mobile is NOT a control. Also damage... only Gear did some :)

    • @snappyrobots
      @snappyrobots 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a tough one! I can see how you would call that, but also having judged competitions it's a bit more complex. Damage was basically 0 on the part of both bots. Aggression was definitely on the side of GDFW, but control depends on how you are calling it. The issue with calling GDFW's score for control is it frequently scuttles in the wrong direction or slams into a wall - this counts against it in control. At the end of the day, I have no quarrels with the result and Gareth is the best guy, but we both said it was very close :)

      @@bigfootjustkilledyou Bruh, they have also had multiple safety incidents where batteries had to be removed from the robot whilst live because the switch stopped working, or the access hole no longer lined up, or because the person operating the switch didnt realise they hadnt fully turned it off.
      Heres the thing - a well designed link will never fall out.... just most people dont bother to design them. A link is just a connector, and i bet you every robot in the US has at least 4 or 5 of them inside the robot - yet when was the last time you heard Tombstone, Biteforce, etc lost a fight because the battery became disconnected..... yet its the exact same system as the link - because people actually pay attention to their battery connections.
      In Europe we avoid risk. Links are significantly safer than Switches - but in the same sense US robots dont use fuses.... hence LiPo fires are alot more common over there.
