I'm excited to see how Neo's speech develop and his accent! between a Bulgarian/American mamma and British Daddy and growing up in Costa Rica - the most eclectic accent
Having grown up from infancy with a pool...save for the pool. It was the centre of everything we did as children in pool season...and our parents socialized around it as well. Our house was the go to house for all of our friends who did not have a pool. Everyone talks about pool upkeep...my brother and I were responsible for that as soon as we were old enough and our parents taught us well about responsibility. I still go for swims in the parents pool and I live currently in a condo with a pool so I am very happy with that. Adamant vote for the pool :) The mango tree is so beautiful...I can't even imagine walking into my yard and grabbing my favourite tropical fruit. I think an avocado tree is a must as well...but they get huge also. Maybe you plant one and your neighbours plant the other haha.
I’ve been fortune enough to grow up with a pool during my childhood, omg it was amazing, I have the best memories with all my brothers, cousins and friends coming over for the pool. Now we’re all grown up it sadly hardly gets used anymore, But it was amazing fun for my childhood and I’m so grateful we had one 😊
Same - had a pool from the time I was born and started swim lessons as soon as I could walk. Ended up on swim teams and worked as a lifeguard during adolescence. Loved it!
Same with a pool during childhood. Now I have a bigger pool and the “kids” 24 and 32 yo still go in pool to dunk but my husband and I exercise in it. Laps and water weights!!!
Teaching children to swim is the most important safety precaution around pools. As a mum of four and grandmother of four, I would say get a pool. Kids are always happy in water! Doesn’t have to be huge. We have a saltwater pool in Turkey and love it. Swimming is also great exercise for adults. Neo looked very happy in the water ❤️
We had a pool when the kids were young and they loved it but stopped using it when the became teenagers and my husband got tired of cleaning it. That was in Canada where we only could use it 4 months per year. If I was in Costa Rica I would definitely have a salt water pool. We were there for a month in February and used it every single day. ❤😊
On pools- we live in the southern US and can swim more than half the year, our kids are in preschool and elementary school and it was THE best thing we have ever bought! We use it daily in the summer, both our kids are great swimmers and it gives us the ability to play outside in the summer when it would be too hot otherwise. We upgraded to have a swim shelf and you can put an umbrella over the whole shelf to stay out of the sun and let littles use the pool.
I have 3 kids - one in his 30's and the others nearly 20. We have always had a pool and although you have to be careful when they cannot swim it's one of the best things you could provide for them - especially given the weather in Costa Rica. Have to say, now the kids are grown and out of the house the pool is not used nearly as much, but it's so refreshing in the heat of our California summers. Get a pool - you will not regret it. It doesn't have to be a big one. If you can go with a salt pool all the better - I wish we had been able to do that.
Yeah and all kinds of things get into the pool, leaves, debris, insects, birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, rodents. Unless the pool is in an enclosed area it’s a death trap for wildlife.
I grew up with a pool and can't imagine not having one in the heat then.I loved it...In my adult years sadly i live in a townhome that does not allow pools and we dont have a community one. My daughter is an adult young woman now and she still loves the water like i do! We used to spend alot of time at the beach in the summer when she was young. She and I both love water and if it's gonna be hot outside I wanna be in the water ! I do not think you would regret it.I think you should go for it. You both besides the little one you both seem to enjoy water yourselve so I think even when your children grow up you and Louis would probably enjoy having it still.. Loving this series and the recipes! Love you guys period! Dont work too hard in the heat Louis! The monkey sounds were something, wow! Neo is so adorable!! 🌴
Over in Grenada, container storage doesn't really work unless you have some ventilation as storage items bake, plastic dries out and breaks, materials go mouldy and then rots. I would worry more about the outside for now - paint that white and some sort of shade for the top so you can bosh a vent fan on the top. It all depends how long it will be closed up for. If you are in the container daily with the door open then that is a different story.
💯% have a pool.. we had a pool, with (2) kids.. used the pool 24/7… I would even iron while the kids and friends were swimming and jump in and continue to iron..lol The kids would help with bring in the groceries and jump in with their clothes on.. so much fun.. so many memories ‼️
Thoughts on the Pool question Raya. Personally I think it's a lot of upkeep when y'all are only planning on living there half the year. It would mean more maintenance while y'all are gone or a big cleanup every time you come back. Baby pools are great, they make some fairly large ones too. My son is 2.5 we bought one last summer for him. It's a 6ft diameter and about 2.5 feet deep. It's a little different the water itself holds the walls up so no air needed and easier to put up and take down. Our German shepherd is obsessed with water, especially moving water, if we had bought a blow up one she would have immediately popped it trying to get at the hose when filling it . This one is perfect she can't pop it and can come play near it with my son he loves throwing water for her to jump at it from the pool. Also sprinklers are fun once Neo is more mobile and can run through it. And I'm assuming when my kids (I am pregnant 20 weeks with a baby girl) are older we will do slip n slides in the yard too. It's nice that y'all have the big pool not to far from your land so it may be better to just do smaller easier water play closer to the house. Loving the Costa Rica content btw!❤
I like the idea of a salt pool. I agree, you don’t need a big pool until Neo is about 10 years old. A small pool is perfect for Neo right now but until then, save your money!
We have a salt water pool and the upkeep is so easy! When I talk to my friends who have chlorine pools it is more upkeep! I have 6 grandbabies who love it and I’m here to tell you it is just my hubby and here most of the time and we use it a lot!
Im loving this series- wait for it eagerly every week. Thank you! I was a viewer almost 10 years ago(!) so wonderful to see where life has and is continuing to take you. The growth is beautiful to watch :)
Hello Raya and Louis, Neo and Cali ! I felt compelled to write you a little note just to say that the two of you are some of the most beautiful and amazing human beings around! The world would be such a great place if there was more people like you! You are both so genuine, authentic, kind, down to earth, compassionate, etc. You clearly care so much about the environment, animals, people, nature, etc. I'm so happy that I came across your videos, they have become my happy place to watch them all. The beauty of some of them bring tears to my eyes. Most of them fills my heart with love and peace. You are such amazing parents to beautiful Neo! I just love his big brown eyes... and Cali is such a cutie pie, adorable! Raya, you are an amazing women, such grace and natural beauty, so grounded, articulate and wow, your recipes are great! I admire you so much! Louis, you radiate kindness and respect for everyone, you are so easy going, free spirited and full of adventure! Every time I watch some of your videos, I think to myself how I wish that there was more people like the two of you. You are both AMAZING!!! I have watch so many Utubers and I must say that your videos are probably my favorite ones! Thank you so very much for sharing some of your life with us. Looking forward to many more vlogs! Sending your family of four lots of loving and HUGS HUGS HUGS! Nathalie from Ontario, Canada!
Our house came with an above ground pool. We absolutely love it and even with the kids being 27, 23 & 14, they all still use it every weekend in the summer!! Time consuming but best thing ever!
My mom’s favorite potluck thing to bring is simple but yummy. Mix one box of any flavor jello mix with one large tub of cool whip. Then drain two cans of mixed fruit in and chill. Always a hit.
You mean Louis walking around the kitchen in his underwear holding a kid while Raya is opening cans of corn tasting it and flipping her hair every five seconds? Great content takes a lot of creativity to come up with that.
Bulgarians always bring something to the host house, which can be a bunch of flowers for the female host something sweet for the kids, or a bottle of Rakia (or homemade wine). That is how I grew up and this was how my family went to the other house.
I really like your costa rica vlogs. Have you thought of scrapping the bus and building a container home and around the container? I have seen some beautiful container homes. Sturdy and probably suitable for all the rain and safe from termite damage.
I've had an above ground pool for decades. Im in it ever day from the day webopen it until it's closed for the winter. My daughter enjoyed it growing up and her children love swimming in it. Best investment ever.
Pools are so great for the kids and you all. In that climate it would only make sense. I think you have 5he timeline right for when to upgrade. If you hav3 a big enough pool, the kids will enjoy it into when they start bringing their kids!!
I have a salt water pool on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. I love it so much! It's more expensive to get started but the upkeep is far less and it feels like your swimming in cream😊. So there's my experience.
Please just let Neo get to know his food, he can have a bowl and you still feed him from another bowl if you’re worried about his intake. I love your videos so much, you’re both inspiring people and such fabulous parents xx
We got our pool when our daughter was 6. She loves it and goes in several times a day. Of course we live in Canada and can only use it for 4 months a year but it is totally worth it.
You guys seem to be swimming alot and with the weather there and how warm it is I would get one. We started out with a hot tub and the kids used it as a pool so we had a pool installed and loved it! I didn't feel it was hard to care for like alot of people say. I would work out in the yard and the garden and then jump in the pool, check the chemicals or filters and maybe vacuum if the automatic vacuum wasn't going and enjoyed it the rest of the day.
Yes, you’re right Raya - we don’t usually ask people to bring food when we’re hosting. I’m also Bulgarian and still find it strange even though I’ve lived in the UK for 13 years 😅
Yes is true a pool is expensive to maintain and it I have to clean it every second day, but I have 4 kids and we swim every day, plus the kids friends come over. Out of 12 months in the year we spend 8 months in the pool. It brings lots of joy to the family and to our visitors too but you don't need a big pool, half of the size of your friends' pool is more than enough and it is also good to have a pool in case of bush fires
My daughter is 13 and has grown up in the pool and holidays with water and swimming I'm never worried. It exhausts younger kids for bed time, and before we had AC it was essential for cooling down. Key is to make it a focal point of the back yard and use it often if you don't use it you will end up regretting it. As for when the kids move out my uncle had a hip replacement and converted his pool into a beach entry lazy river with a water fall at the end which adults now use and kids still love.
I dont usually comment on videos but I just have to say as a long-time follower of both of you, watching your life unfold in Costa Rica is such a beautiful experience and I just wanted to thank you for sharing it all with us. Your weekly videos is one of the highlights of my week! And Raya you are such an inspiration, you're positively radiating with beauty and confidence in your motherhood journey ❤️
I have two daughters. They’ve loved the pool since babies. They are 8 and 11 now and if they could swim everyday they would. My little water bugs. Guess it really depends on your kids but I always say you can never go wrong with a pool. 🙂
Hey, guys, I really enjoy your videos. Raya I am from Bulgaria too, curently living in Greece with my boys - 2 yrs old and a 45 yrs old ;) My thoughts for the pool are - include the pool and piping in the plan, but stick to the inflatable ones for now. This way you can also travel away for longer and not have this on your mind. Time will show, just keep your options open ;) Greetings, Tsvetty ❤
I had one for storage at my sign shop, I put a ceiling fan in one end of mine and a hatch or some other kind of opening so the air could go all the way through the container and I never had any moisture problems. I also put cinderblocks under mine, but mine was higher off the ground, probably a foot. Good Luck!🍀
go ahead and get the pool sooner than later!! we started practicing with swimming at around age 2 1/2-3… my daughter is 4 now (still wears a life jacket in water) and teaching her to swim has grown her confidence so much! she loves the exercise it gives her as well as the small amount of age appropriate independence it gives along the way. she just loves it so much and my mama heart glows seeing her so happy. I also think it’s great to introduce it early on so the kiddos get used to it and don’t see larger bodies of water as a threat in the long run :) nonetheless, whatever decision you make will be just fine. kids are happy just spending time with the people they love and as long as they’re having fun, it’s still all worth it 💕🌻🌈
I say one hundred percent, if you can, get the pool done at the same time that you build your dream house. We made a point of teaching our kids to swim very young, as babies/toddlers, so they would swim all the time when they were little. Good for them to learn water safety and confidence early on too and become good and strong swimmers. Also great memories, spending their days in and around the pool. And also its an excellent way for the kids to burn off energy (and sleep better, plus plus for parents). It would also be good to just get it done altogether with the build so you don't have to worry about it later.
Did you not see the kitchen habits these two have? Louis in his underwear and Raya tasting everything and flipping her hair ? No thanks. Her boobs probably squirted milk into the salsa and had to be edited out.
There may be also the possibility to build a natural pool whiteout chlorine. The water is filtered through plants and stones. And the water gets actually very clean and clear.
@@BellabooItaly22Look natural pools up. It's a thing. It doesn't require chlorine neither salt, the filtration is done by plants, just as frfruchs said.
We used to hear the howler monkeys all the time when we lived in Panama. Also, my daughter ended up being allergic to the Mango sap, so be careful! Love mango's! Used to eat them green, peeled, cut and salted. We also had coatimundi that would come into our yard. Loved the tropicalness of that area. Very warm though in the dry season and loved the monsoon season too.
My faculty housing in Thailand had a few mango trees and we were INUNDATED with fruit. Definitely definitely plan ahead if you’re considering planting one on your land. And give sliced green mango a try too (especially with some lime and salt)
I ve had a fairly large pool for 23 years. I live in hot and humid texas. The biggest money pit ever! I suggest just a dipping pool to cool off. Especially since you have access to the large pool. Pumps go out, chemicals are expensive, equipment wears out or the flooding rain brings mud… on and on. Thousands every year. Dipping pool size!
Well said spoken from a common sense prospective. I’m not so sure these two have common sense. You forgot to mention that unless the pool is enclosed with a screen room that all sorts of debris and critters get in it. A pool builder will never admit to all the problems of having a pool. Whatever a builder says upkeep and chemicals costs be sure to quadruple it. A simple plunge pool would be sufficient.
Hey from Sofia. No, potlucks were not common growing up. Usually the host will cook and prepare the meal or be responsible for the take out. In the past few years it;'s become more common to have potluck style get-togethers where everyone contributes to the table.
We do potlucks in Canada! Not exclusively or anything, we still have traditional meals and such, but they're not uncommon for like office or school parties.
The heat is the biggest miscalculation that people make when moving here.Thats why a one full year test drive in the aera you think you want to live in is wise. Very few people get it right the first time out of the gate. Cheers
Mango sap (latex) sap which is highly acidic in nature is contained within the ducts. In the mature fruit, the sap is under considerable pressure and when the fruit is separated from the stem at the harvest time via an incision, the sap spurts out.
My parents had a pool while we were kids and we didn’t really use it much tbh. We now live in an HOA with a nice community pool, so we’re just planning on using that when our kids come. You don’t have to deal with the maintenance yourself, so best of all worlds IMO
Too late! Think it’s already gone to his brain. Filled himself in his underwear around food that Raya is preparing for others to eat all while dangling a baby with dirty feet.
Definitely saltwater pool. The filter machine cleans it on a timer automatically, and then a few times a year a pool company comes to check salt levels. Though health wise I'd definitely go with salt water.
Oh those mangoes looks so good! I’m from Nicaragua and we eat them green too! I would eat them with salt, or just wait until they’re ripen and they’ll turn reddish/yellow color. Oh and you can eat the skin too!
If you want a pool it might definitely be worth looking into natural pools/swimming ponds! I don't have any experience with them, but I've seen them on the internet, they look amazing, I believe they're quite low maintenance and would be fit in great with the eco village lifestyle!
Your neighbour is correct. You will spend more time cleaning and maintaining it than being in it. Above ground pools getting better and you can empty them when you’re not there. Not a priority get your living space sorted first.
My thoughts on a pool. The cost is quite high and you have one close you can use for free. But, I also like salt pools. I think you all would use the pool. Salt pool is good on skin so it would be a pro and upkeep is cheaper than chlorine and a lot easier. In the end it is your decision. I don’t think you would go wrong with either decision you make❤
Pool comment! While I lived in Tennessee my siblings, parents and I would utilize it every chance we got!! It was WONDERFUL for those HOT and humid summer days. Nothing better than jumping in a cold pool. As long as you prioritize cleaning daily (like work it into a routine. It was one of my chores that all siblings rotated) then it’s really not an issue. A salt pool is less upkeep but has its own issues. I miss that pool every day. Not to mention once I was in high school and college all my friends would come over during the year! Many birthday parties at that pool. If you can’t tell I’m very PRO pool. 😂
I f you watch Mr and Mrs Adventure , fellow bloggers. They are renovating an old mill in Portugal and the purchased a container and he insulated it because of heat and cold. Might give you some ideas. Love your vids and Neo looks so happy. ❤
Hi, maybe an idea for the pool. Friends of mine here in the Netherlands have a natural swimming pond, where also fishes and plants are in, but wide and long and deep enough to also swim in it. As far as I know then you don’t need to upkeep because it’s a natural system that’s keeping itself clean.
All sorts of critter would be in it. Believe me when I tell you they would move in invited or not. Plus it would essentially be like swimming in a pond.
you should roll a rag n put so fridge door does not close all the way n trap moisture n get mold growing I would also store in shipping container or bus so a k8d can't get trapped inside n you can leave doors open or off on the fridge n freezer you will prob need in future. have fun at party
Mangoes do ripen on the tree & often fall off on their own when fully ripe. Those of us from countries with these trees don’t usually pick them green (unless for a specific purpose like pickling) We allow them to fully ripen on the tree before picking them. A sign that a mango is ready to be picked can be determined by the colour of the skin & the ease of which it comes off the stem when pulled (they’re usually easy to come off when they’re fully ripe- no resistance like the ones you picked in this video- hence why they fall to the ground when not picked). Gotta be watchful of birds (& bats!) usually though 😂 They enjoy the fruit just as much as us and you might find yourself in competition with them, trying to get to the ripe mangoes first 😂
Growing up in the Midwest of the US we did potlucks all the time, pretty much any party/gathering was a potluck, now that I live in the South of the US I don’t experience them as much.
Costa Rica most certainly seems to suit you. Neo is developing in so many ways! He is so interactive and is most certainly a water baby. ♥ Would encourage you to really weigh the pros/cons of your own pool, since there is a community pool. Upkeep can be tedious at times,, especially if you are not there full time. Are pool services available close?
Hi Raya. In CR we also eat the green mangos. People just cut them in juliane plus lemon juice and salt, they are good you guys should try them. The peak of the mango season I think is in May.
Oh how I love watching Neo growing there............. Am worried about returning to England and how he may be restricted............... HUGS to you all!!
wow 2 Months in, it feels lie just yesterday I was watching your Christmas vlogs whattttt time is flying catching up on your Costa Rica adventures now :)
Kaia saying "my daddy's the best daddy ever", melted my heart! So beautiful seeing such involved and great dads.
I’ve absolutely loved this Costa Rica series. You both, especially Raya, look so relaxed and happy. Blinking fab xx
Thank you so much!! ❤️
Neo being daddy's little helper and making car noises sooooooo doggone cute! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

I agree! They should have over 1,000,000 subscribers! Such quality and amazing content! Love these people!
I love Neo peeking at you in the car. He is such a little sweetheart. ❤❤❤
Love the daily diary!! Neo is getting so much hair!! ❤
Yes - pot lucks!! I’m 65 and we have always done them. I grew up n Chicago and live in the Seattle area and it’s very common.
A middle aged man walking around in his underwear while holding a kid as his wife opens cans of corn is inspiring? Ok you really set the bar high.
We grew up on potlucks and progressive dinners. They were so great for learning about new foods.
Thank you so so much! ❤️
I have two daughters. They’ve loved the pool since babies. They are 8 and 11 now and if they could swim everyday they would. My little water bugs. Guess it really depends on your kids but I always say you can never go wrong with a pool. 🙂
Hey, guys, I really enjoy your videos. Raya I am from Bulgaria too, curently living in Greece with my boys - 2 yrs old and a 45 yrs old ;)
My thoughts for the pool are - include the pool and piping in the plan, but stick to the inflatable ones for now. This way you can also travel away for longer and not have this on your mind. Time will show, just keep your options open ;)
Greetings, Tsvetty
❤
I had one for storage at my sign shop, I put a ceiling fan in one end of mine and a hatch or some other kind of opening so the air could go all the way through the container and I never had any moisture problems. I also put cinderblocks under mine, but mine was higher off the ground, probably a foot. Good Luck!🍀
What a great vlog and wonderful little moments shared!
I don’t have a pool but I’m a fan of building a small pool right away. I don’t think you’d regret it in such a hot climate.
Exactly 💯
I’ve really loved the Costa Rica series it looks so good over there. Little Neo is so adorable 🥰 xxx
go ahead and get the pool sooner than later!! we started practicing with swimming at around age 2 1/2-3…
my daughter is 4 now (still wears a life jacket in water) and teaching her to swim has grown her confidence so much! she loves the exercise it gives her as well as the small amount of age appropriate independence it gives along the way. she just loves it so much and my mama heart glows seeing her so happy.
I’m from Canada and our family and friends do potlucks for almost all of our get togethers! It’s great from an economical and labour standpoint!
You need chlorine or salt water in the pool with a filtering system. Bacteria & algae forms. Gotta have it disinfectant in pool.
@@BellabooItaly22Look natural pools up. It's a thing. It doesn't require chlorine neither salt, the filtration is done by plants, just as frfruchs said.
I respectfully disagree. You may need a mechanical filter for removing leaves and stuff but definitely no chemicals. ☀️
So glad little man is feeling better! We missed his happy baby noises.
If you plant a mango tree on your property, you should put it down by the cargo unit and maybe it would end up shading it
And maybe they could go on the roof to help pick the mangos haha
Louis please wear eye and breathing protection when sanding rust!!!
I second this! Safety first…💚
Too late! Think it’s already gone to his brain. Filled himself in his underwear around food that Raya is preparing for others to eat all while dangling a baby with dirty feet.
You can keep mango trees small just keep cutting middle out and it will be more manageable for picking plus wrap the mangos in paper they ripen faster
Definitely saltwater pool. The filter machine cleans it on a timer automatically, and then a few times a year a pool company comes to check salt levels. Though health wise I'd definitely go with salt water.
I really enjoy the jungle series!
Oh those mangoes looks so good! I’m from Nicaragua and we eat them green too! I would eat them with salt, or just wait until they’re ripen and they’ll turn reddish/yellow color. Oh and you can eat the skin too!
Oh Neo❤ He steals the show! Adorable!
That land will be beautiful and peaceful.. 😊
I love guanabana! First time I had it was in St Thomas on a trip with my mom in 1982.
When I lived in Costa Rica I made sour soup smoothies, best way to eat them and so good for you
I f you watch Mr and Mrs Adventure , fellow bloggers. They are renovating an old mill in Portugal and the purchased a container and he insulated it because of heat and cold. Might give you some ideas. Love your vids and Neo looks so happy. ❤
Yes watch them he seems happy with how it is although they not been through summer with it yet if remember right.
Loving this experience thankyou and my dogs were listening to the howler monkeys in the background and thought they were here in uk! 😂❤
Gotta be watchful of birds (& bats!) usually though 😂 They enjoy the fruit just as much as us and you might find yourself in competition with them, trying to get to the ripe mangoes first 😂
Those big green mangoes are amazing in mango (vegan) ceviche 👌🏼
Yeah, we usually don't bring food when we are invited somewhere, but we bring gifts (mainly alcohol and chocolate)
Would encourage you to really weigh the pros/cons of your own pool, since there is a community pool. Upkeep can be tedious at times,, especially if you are not there full time. Are pool services available close?
Go Adorable Neo!! You steal the show!!! Love him❤. Love and Hugs from Grammy in Indiana, U.S.A,💕❤️🥰
Ahh thank you! ❤️
I grew up going to potlucks. Born in Mississippi and grew up mostly in Illinois
Goggles when doing things to the container, Louis! please!
Hi Raya. In CR we also eat the green mangos. People just cut them in juliane plus lemon juice and salt, they are good you guys should try them. The peak of the mango season I think is in May.
Yessssss green mangos with lime juice are really good ! Very common in Colombia too
Oh how I love watching Neo growing there............. Am worried about returning to England and how he may be restricted............... HUGS to you all!!
Get the mango tree instead of the pool, you have a community pool anyway :)
wow 2 Months in, it feels lie just yesterday I was watching your Christmas vlogs whattttt time is flying catching up on your Costa Rica adventures now :)
