This version is not true to the novel, but it is charming all the same. The film was released in 1940 when the world was marching to war. More than ever people needed the escape of pretty romance and happy endings.
I haven't seen this version, I've only found bits and pieces in YT but I love Olivier's version of Darcy bc he is just...so weird?? I mean, the way he just yeets the gloves like its nothing and the awkward hand gestures he makes during the first proposal are *Amazing* I love this werid, awkward child
Love this version despite the fact that this was a stage adaptation of the book. It always holds a special place because it was the first version that I had seen.
I often like to watch this before Saint Valentine's Day. I continue to be amazed at how great of a job Sir Laurence Olivier did as Abraham Van Helsing in the 1979 "Dracula." By that time. he was quite ill. And many of the cast were frightened that he was going to die any day. Needless to say, they were surprised that he lived on another 10 years. It's nice to go back to this film and see Sir Laurence when he was young and healthy.
It's high time they made "Wickham's Second Attempt", the Pride and Prejudice spin-off novel, into a movie. We all want to see Mr. Darcy and Mr. Wickham duel!

I've seen this version so many times, but this is the first time I noticed the glove-yeeting XD

Laurence Olivier is so dashing
Men like Mr Darcy only exists in my dreams.....

Gorgeous! Absolutely first class!
I think that the actress "Lizzy bennet" was wonderful! Magnificent!!! ❤❤❤ I
A jelmezeket ebben a filmben is sikerült jól elszúrni.Empir stílusú ruhák és frizurák helyett, biedermeier ruhákba öltöztették a szereplőket.
First lady Catherine and now you 😂 what a sarcastic comment
This Darcy is charming and funny, not at all like the book but it’s a nice movie.😁

This is a comedy surely? 😃.
It was made during the war . Intentionally light, that was what was needed.
I can't imagine people took that much time with their hair. And had no cha. Meh
Why not use the original words and actions? They couldn't be improved upon.
It's just an awful movie. It has little to do with the novel.
I don't care, it's a wonderful and funny movie 😂
@@LucyNyuu-y8n I love it too as it has loads of humour in it
