  • This tango vals from 1942 was composed by Juan Laurenza, setting music to the poem written by Alfredo Lucero Palacios and Lito Bayardo.
    Blossoms From My Soul
    (I have) memories from a happy night
    Which bloom, once again, within my soul...
    They're memories that had faded with time,
    But I can sense that they are coming back to life again!
    Just like that very distant night
    This night is filled with my bitter loneliness:
    The moon, on the blue sky, casts its light down upon me
    Like a white moon from the past, which I won't ever see again.
    "If you want to forget me, then leave me"
    You told me the morning when I I left.
    "You know that I love you and I'll continue doing so
    And the love that I've given you is still yours.
    I have never loved anyone like I love you
    And, completely devoted, I've offered you my heart;
    I know that my soul has lost you forever more
    Because everything between us was only an illusion"
    You complained to me thus, not knowing
    That I felt pity for your sorrow;
    Because, when you offered me your affections
    My heart already belonged to another love...
    Can you now understand the reason behind my parting?
    Can you now understand why my goodbye was so bitter?
    Maybe, as the years have passed, you've forgotten me
    But I never have (forgotten you)...!
    Flores del alma
    Recuerdos de una noche venturosa
    que vuelven en mi alma florecer...
    Recuerdos que se fueron con el tiempo
    ¡presiento que reviven otra vez!
    Igual que aquella noche tan lejana
    es esta de mi amarga soledad:
    la luna, sobre el cielo azul, me alumbra
    como otra blanca luna que ya nunca veré más.
    "Si quieres olvidarme, déjame"
    Dijiste la mañana que partí.
    "Tú sabes que te quiero y te querré
    y tuyo es el cariño que te di.
    A nadie quise tanto como a ti
    y, amante, te ofrecí mi corazón;
    yo sé que para siempre te ha perdido mi alma
    ya que todo ha sido solo una ilusión"
    Así me reprochabas, sin saber
    que yo compadecía tu dolor;
    que, cuando me ofreciste tu querer
    yo estaba enamorada de otro amor...
    ¿Comprendes el por qué de mi partir?
    ¿Comprendes mi amargura en el adiós?
    Acaso con los años me hayas olvidado,
    ¡pero nunca yo...!
